jimbo, not to be mean or anything, but how old are you? How many films have you actually seen? I'm curious as to what criteria you base the quality of films on.
While AOTC was a vast improvement over TPM, it still had a long way to go to even come close to the original trilogy. I think the story is a jumbled mish-mash of confusing plot threads (wtf is Sifo Dyas???; was that supposed to be Dooku? What was the whole Clone Wars about? What exactly do the Separatists want?) None of this stuff is even remotely explained. I know, I know, it will all be clear in Episode III... sorry, but I didn't just come in from the moisture farm.
The story-telling in AOTC is not brilliant. The action is well choreographed, but seems more technical fluff and a chance to showcase the talents of ILM rather than helping to move the storyline forward. Yes, Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, but that doesn't save her from the dreadful dialogue she had to recite. As good an actress as she is, she cannot do the impossible, same with the talented Hayden Christensen.
If Lucas pulls off the miracle and makes Episode III the kick-ass perfect Star Wars movie that we all hope and dream that it might be, then I will happily eat my crow at days end. I want to like Episode III, I really do, but TPM and AOTC have been very disappointing.
Call me a child if you want, but Jedi is still superior in my book (despite its many faults) to AOTC.
