I think that's why Lucas (or Dark Horse, or whoever's decision it was) just said screw it and jumped ahead by a hundred years to do the Legacy comic books.

dark horse wanted to make a comic book series, but the books are still being written chronologically, they skipped ahead 100 years cause well, by then everyone would have died at the very least from old age, and so it allows for writers of the books to write openly, and the comics to do whatever they wanted.
