Further proof GL has lost his mind... Clone Wars

Author
Time
I was worried when George took the well made Clone Wars series away from the people that made it successful.

I was unsurprised but disappointed by the kookie news that it was going to be CG only.

I thought it was bad when Lucas decided to release a theatrical animated Star Wars prequel to the upcoming TV series.

I thought he was really nuts when he described the decision to make the movie as: "You've got the whole assembly line built, and then you say, 'Hey, we can make up something.'" Make something up?!?!

Just when you think it can't get worse we get the lovely information that the series will be:
"Star Wars starring an 11-year-old girl" — that is, feisty Ahsoka, padawan apprentice to Anakin Skywalker.

Please someone take Star Wars away from this man!!!!!

Please someone take Star Wars away from this man!!!!!

Too bad it's already made billions of dollars, with several billion more probably left to make.

It's something I said a couple months back, but the simple reality is that GL will continue to crank this stuff out so long as there are people willing to buy it. Meanwhile, the simplification of Star Wars into the SE will remain as the only way you can watch it unless you're willing to settle for a 1993 laserdisc.

I'm pretty sure I'm not wasting my money on going to see this in theaters, especially when it'll be on tv fo free (oh wait, I forgot, that'll be sans two seconds of footage that I'll only see in that 90 minute edit, gasp!!!). Also, I'd kinda like to keep that final time I saw ROTS in theaters (which was at the Uptown in DC) as my last theatrical Star Wars experience ever. It's not like we're getting the OOT in theaters, well, ever. I'll continue to wait for the Definitive Collection Laser - er, I mean Blu-ray disc.

Is a Jedi even allowed to have a Padawan when they have yet to become a master?

This new kid has to be out of the picture one way or the other by Episode III, so there goes any suspense. ;)

Well that's the main problem right there - whatever else to can or can't get away with she doesn't exist circa ROTS. I'm sure they can get away with that too but it just seems odd, There are already plenty of existing characters [that we like] who don't really get enough screen time in the films.

Obi Wan had barely graduated as a padawaan when he got Anakin. But I guess that was a bit of an exception. By the films, I'm not sure theres even any sort of "rules" for when a person can get an apprentice except that it has to be approved by the Jedi Council--but, given the way the Jedi Council views Anakin (not very well) there better be a hell of an explanation as to how they thought it was a good idea to give him one.

Bwahahaha! You want an explanation for it? I'm sorry, but this is Lucas we're talking about. There likely won't be an explanation. Anakin will just get a Padawan and that'll be it. The explanation will be that it's his story and he'll tell it exactly the way he wants, whether it makes sense along with past stories or not.

When was the last time Lucas actually explained something with any thought?

Well I don't know, they could make it into a plot point that Anakin is being given a padawaan even though Obi Wan probably believes he's not ready. Maybe the clone war has wiped out so many Jedi that they can no longer assign padawaans just to Masters. Lucas isn't writing it or directing it, keep in mind, so I wouldn't rule out a thought-out justification of some kind. Whether its believable is another matter though.

(OOT Prosecutor who finally gets George Lucas on the stand):

OOT Prosecutor: Did you change the canon again in the SW universe?

Lucas: I did my job, and I do my best when it comes to continuity.

OOT Prosecutor: I want answers!

Lucas: You want answers?

OOT Prosecutor: I want the truth!

Lucas: You cant handle the truth! Son, I never had any plan from day one of SW universe, and I am making this up as I go along! You use words like continuity, original original trilogy, and han shoots first, I use them as a punchline now! I have not the time or the inclination to worry about what people think about my movies, cause I don't really care how they end up as long as I make my money!

OOT Prosecutor: Do you admit to being a bad writer, a bad director, and a ruin the Prequel Trilogy?

Lucas: Your god damn right I do!

OOT Prosecutor: Judge, this man has rights, I appease the court to take him into custody, and put someone else in charge of Lucasfilm and wipe out anything that has happened in the Star Wars universe since 1997.

zombie84, I was under the impression this series was under Lucas' direct control (as opposed to the previous CW series). TV.com even lists GL as a writer.

My theory? Anakin's Padawan is created full grown by midichlorians... and then evaporates at the end of the series.

Whether he's in complete control or not doesn't matter. Anakin training a Padawan is a pretty major plot point, so he'd have the final say on that. Remember, Lucas didn't write any of the NJO books either, but he ok'd Chewie being killed off. That was a major plot point that had to be approved directly through Lucas.

on the topic of the clone wars, it looks like they'll be making more of an effort to "tie it in" with the OT.... I'm not sure how i feel about this:

I'd say it looks newer than the old-school Y-Wing...
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

I don't know if it's canon or not, but I recall reading somewhere the Rebels stripped down the Y-wings to make them easier to maintain and so forth.

There should have been "new" versions of many future Rebel workhorses in the prequels. *sigh*

i always thought it would be neat to have Z-95 Headhunters (the precursor to the x-wing in "in-universe" history) in Revenge of the sith.

They're brought up in a conversation Anakin and his friend have with some pilot in Mos Espa in the opening chapters of The Phantom Menace novelization. I still remember reading that a week or so before the movie opened, and by that point I'd pretty much figured out that these chapters wouldn't be in the actual movie so I thought "hmm, well that's a nice nod to the EU."

Well, yea, but you're preaching to the choir here. There are plenty of things that are showing up in these various prequel spinoffs that should've been in the movies themselves, simply because the cashcow is still there.

that looks nothing like the y-wing from the original movies looks too clean and pristine almost like a star trek ship.

what happened to the beat up and lived in look that gave believability to the old models? being replaced with fake cgi and too new looking crap. sigh. i hate the prequels they ruined the concepts of the oot.

With the Clone Wars on Tatooine, and Anakin partaking in the mission, it seems he really does. Its not that its bad that its made up as they go, just that it never stays consistent or within the same series. As far as I'm concerned I'm not really a Star Wars fan anymore because what is currently considered "Star Wars" is an entirely different franchise from the one I fell in love with. Not in a metaphorica, philosophical sense, but in a literal sense, the story and characters are different and exist in this weird alternate universe that bears a vague resemblance to that older series but is really a seperate remake of sorts.

Hmm, I never noticed the double sunset before. that sucks that they are fighting on Tatooine [as it seems] The republic doesn't give a shit about Tatooine so why fight for it? unless it ties into disbanding slavery somehow? but it will still be a backwater planet in the OT gontrolled by gangsters.

This deal keeps getting worse all the time.

Are you sure that's Tatooine? Must be the cloudiest day in it's entire history! ;)

Anakin's shoulder armor and chestplate look familar...

-Anakin's a Jedi Knight by this point in the story. You can have an apprentice as soon as you're a Knight.

-That particular screenshot I always thought was a lens flare, not another sun. However, in the newer trailer there are some shots of Anakin and Ahsoka walking around on a planet that definitely resembles and probably is Tatooine.

-Funny, I never noticed the significance of the armor until you pointed it out, SilverWook. Guess we now know what happened to the plot point of Anakin gradually collecting the various pieces making up the Vader armor, which was rumored back before Episode III was released:

GL: "nah, save it for some future spin off."

I agree, at least in that screen shot that is definitely CG lens flare.
