As for Darth Vader attacking the Wendy's girl, I was working at Wendy's at the time and fast food work was starting to get old.

'Purist' version - brilliant: I didnt log in yesterday so I missed that one!
Much better than the crappy 'Doctor Who vs Cylons' gag on SFX!

But the Purist version thing was posted TODAY. His big April Fools Joke was on the Empire thread where he said he wasn't going to do Empire. I think this one is real.

But can we trust anything Ady says anymore?

Or me for that matter?

Time stamp says yesterday, forty-seven minutes prior to midnight.

I didn't find his joke on the Empire thread until after this one.

Near's I can tell there wasn't anything sizable posted on a.b.sw (and I was concerned enough to check before I posted my response).
Or me for that matter?

It wasn't the Ewoks that made me certain. I can deal with them. It was hte picture of Jar-Jar that you posted....

It was a scare that was beautifully done. Congratulations to both of you.

I await clarification, and hope this was just more of the same.

(Actually, the funniest gag of all could have been to post a DVD-9 and let people believe, for a day or two, that (aside from the sheer size) it was the bare-bones DVD-5. Sadly, an opportunity missed. And Adywan: I am sympathetic. Take as long a break as you need!)

it all depends on what timezone you have OT.com set to. My timezone is GMT and the announcement about the Purist edition was actually posted on April 2, 2008 at 7:13 AM. Nothing has been posted in a.b.starwars yet because i did say later tonight and its still only 10.30 here. I'm just rendering the DVD now so it should start to show on a.b.starwars in the next hour or so, so this one isn't an April fools.

To doubleofive: Nice work on the splitscreen comparison galleries. I picked up on a lot of stuff I didn't even realize was changed. Damn, Ady. Just, damn... :)

To Adywan: The purist version sounds cool. I'm especially curious to see how the Vader duel plays out sans music.

Since your TIE approach is being nixed, I'm assuming the classic shot from the DVD will be used in its stead, or something different?

O.T. or No T., baby!

No, it's still the same approach but shortened to match the timing of the original shot & the original cue has been re-added.

It's going up in a.b.starwars now. should take about 12 hours to complete

Okay. Sounds good!

I don't know if it's even possible with commercial DVD authors, but have you considered attempting the DVD-9 with seamless branching? It could be a way to present the film the film with deleted scenes re-inserted or different cuts to be present on the same disc. I'll be happy with the NTSC DVD-9 of your final cut, but just had that thought as I was replying.

Hehe i love the show of Adywan and George Lucas standing opposite other in the end ceremony. Is Lucas giving him a death stare? :-)

Oh. Oh dear. Well, my attempt at humour was misread by people as being serious; the shoe's on the other foot, now, with my taking your seriousness as humour.

I remain a bit befuddled by your Purist Edition, but that's okay. I'm sure people are a bit confused or concerned with my desire to preserve the Holiday Special in all its [glory?] --- which is not at all to confuse the two projects!

You've done stunning work. When a DVD-9 is complete, I and many others will be grateful. Until then, blessings. You do deserve a rest.

You see what happens when you post a big news item circa April 1st. No one is ever going to trust you again.

Well i have decided to take a break from the DVD-9's at the moment. Getting a bit burn out doing the special features and painting the cover is taking a lot longer than i first thought. I just didn't like my first design so i have started from scratch.

Anyway i have decided to do a NTSC DVD-5 only "Purist" edition of Revisited. There will be a few differences to the original version:

Obi-Wan's hut scene is returned to the original edit
No Darth Vader's theme in the movie
No music during the conference scene
No music during the lightsaber duel, original music cue restored.
No extended Tie fighter Approach during the Death Star battle, the pacing will be returned to its original state.

There will be no menus or subtitles on the DVD or any extras.

Adywan, will the credits still be your extended version or will you use the original credits and music?

DarthSmokey... welcome to the forums. I enjoyed reading your post; it's nice hearing from people who have been fans since the beginning.

Although I wasn't old enough to see Star Wars upon its opening release (I was only born in '77), having grown up with it on VHS from as early on as I can remember, I totally empathize with you when you say that the original Star Wars has a certain something about it that the prequels just can't match. Also, like you (and others) have said, it's nice having an edit of Star Wars from someone like Adywan who really 'gets' what it's about.

is the dvd disc art still around to use?.......God knows what page it was originally on

Yeah, they should put that on the fanedit.org page. I personally don't use them (don't have the stickers, always get them crooked anyway), but the Death Star schematic disc art was top notch.

I actually saw the original on the big screen.....although I was only about four years old......ever wonder if it was such a special movie because of your age and the early childhood memories, etc, the impact that movie had at the time, and the fact that it was a much more simple time,(31 years ago)........don't get me wrong it's a great movie, especially with Ady's updates, but I bet there are a load of young kids that saw Ep.I at a young age, and feel that it and the PT are as amazing as you remember ANH and the OT being.

I really enjoy all of the movies, the entire saga as a whole, and I just wish we could stop bashing the quality of this trilogy vs. that trilogy.......It's all great, and tells one of my favorite stories since I can remember. Well just my opinion....peace my Star Wars brothers and sisters.

Ady,

Watched the purist edition. To be honest I guess I like your full version better.....the Adywan extended tie reveal and space battle is just too good and I missed that in the purist edition.....

I'm still not laughing at your cold British humor, *wink wink*.....I knew of course, or rather was hoping like mad that you were just joking.....damn, don't do that....it was just too damn scary. :)

Your hard work and dedication are inspiring....thank you Adywan.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.
