There’s been talk of this before but I’ve been thinking over the past few days about whether the movie could be cut into something more enjoyable. I don’t think I have enough ideas to make it worthwhile yet but I figured that if there’s enough good ideas between us then it might be viable as a fan edit.
one of the things I hate most happens right away, The main titles - with backward lettering. That of course is an easy fix. I’ve been toying with some ideas but I don’t have access to the fonts I want…
Does ANYONE have any of these, or similar fonts? I’ve only had a quick browse around but every website just has the same 5 or so useless ST fonts.
Anyhow, here is a quick test i did using fonts i DO have on hand [WIP] - i TRIED doing titles in the really curvy font from the NEMESIS promo stuff but it looked horrible. I would like to try have something like the animated bird of prey logo but i really don’t know at this point. I just want to get the ball rolling so others will jump in.
One other thing I noticed is that the colours of the film seem really saturated, this looks fine in some places but elsewhere things look a bit odd. I played around a little with tinting and desaturating. Not to make things more correct, just to make it easier on the etes mostly. A cool side effect of this is that the green colours are toned down a bit later on, which i like. - oh and it takes some edge off the overly bleached yellow kolarus [sp?] segment [argo rally et al]
things actually look kind of good in the trailer -
I purposely darkened these shots, which doesn’t really make sense, if it’s dark then why aren’t the lights on? - But I like the look of it. Movie shots then my tweaked versions. these are only WIP based on a quick idea.
The romulans in this scene look almost a sickly shade of green. I’ve tried to eliminate that a little. I also hated to visual effects of the characters ‘turning to stone’ so I’ve hidden that a little. Of course these ideas don’t mean much if the movie still sucks, Just an idea.
The wedding reception is not so bad, except that everythingthing seems a bit ‘orange’. At leasst to my eyes.
Hmm, what to do about Wesley? - remove him / change his outfit / ignore it?
And while on that note, what’s the go with Geordi? I thought his eyes were healed back in the Briar patch? Why is he back to implants?
the colours here do look a tad washed out - Makes it look like it was overcast at the reception, I’m sure I could arrive at a decent middle ground though.
I was trying to decide what could be done with the remans, from totally removing them [impractical] to making them NOT look like “Space Vampires”. One thing is certain, I don’t like the yellow eyes. Contact lenses lose the novelty when most of the cast is wearing them i guess.
So I had an idea, I dunno if it will fly, what do people reckon of [if possible] making the Viceroy [at least] Blind?..relying on his telepathic abilities to see.
Hit me with your ideas guys, No matter how crazy. I haven’t even started on [what i hate about] the plot yet…Have a whinge/rant if you like but I’d prefer constructive ideas.
