Nah, it's not against the rules if you do it right. You would need to turn on your private messages in your settings and someone can email you and work out the details. And it won't be me as I don't have those yet. Happy hunting!

Oh I see, thanks Sluggo. I have turned on PM and I hope someone can help.

Obviously I will gladly pay for all costs, i.e. materials, posting, your own time etc.

WookieGroomer, you are a GOD! :-)

I decided to break my ISP limit and go ahead and download the entire V2 original trilogy. I got myself an external HD to use with my Xbox and then had to discover MacDrive ;-).

I have to admit to still not watching them properly yet, but I've seen enough of each of them and there amazing! Thanks again.

Does anyone know what Lucasfilms stance is on releasing these movies on Bluray? Are they going to sit back and see how BD takes off maybe? If the films have been shown in HD on cable, then theres HD masters ready to use surely?

Looks like these will now play on a PS3 with the new 2.20 firmware except there's no audio. I guess using the DVD audio isn't an option without re-synching. Is there a way to convert the WMV audio to AC3? Or are there AC3 versions available somewhere?
Author

Somewhat off-topic - but does anyone have any recommendations for editing these WMV bad boys? I really want to splice Hayden out of the end sequence in ROTJ - is there an easy way to do this without re-encoding the entire movie?

I'm interested in this as well, when 2.20 came out the first thing i did was test these and when they started playing I was so happy, it didn't last long though because I realized there was no audio.
I wish I had a Kryptonite cross, because then you could keep both Dracula AND Superman away.

Hiya.

This may be of help to you and the PS3, at least until a future firmware (hopefully!) addresses the sound issue:

Just want to say a BIG thank you to Wookie Groomer for these files - they look amazing!

Cheers,

- John

P.S. Since these WMV VC1 files used the 5.1 soundtrack ripped from the DVDs, you can just demux the WMV file (saving it as a MKV file) using gdsmux (comes with MatroskaSplitter), extract the AC3 track from the DVD, then remux that together with the MKV using tsremux. Saves re-encoding anything. I'm doing that just now, and will report back if it works or not. Oh yeah save it as an MT2S file - no file size limits on PS3 then ;)

Problems with PS3 Audio - solved! (partly!)

To any currently having problems with running these 1080p 8gb files on the finicky PS3, I've finally managed to create playable files.

Firstly - using Windows Media Encoder, freely available on Microsoft's website - I demuxed the WMV VC1 video stream from the WMA audio. The PS3 has problems with 5.1 at present with certain formats.

Next, I ripped the AC3 two-channel soundtrack from the official NTSC DVDs using DVD Decrypter. Then using BeSweet converted the AC3 into a 16-bit 48khz WAV file. After this the WAV was converted into a 16-bit 192kbs 48 khz stereo WMA file (PS3 doesn't recognise WMA lossless unfortunately!) using Adobe Audition (though Windows Media Encoder should be able to do this also).

Lastly, again using Media Encoder, I muxed the video and audio back together.

Result, perfect playback on the PS3. No audio sync issues either which is cool. The whole thing should fit on a dual layer DVD which makes it even more handy.

Thanks again to Wookie Groomer for these - they look awsome on a 100" screen :)

Any questions please ask.

Hope this is of help to someone,

- John

P.S. If anyone could hook me up with the 13GB versions of episodes 4-6 somehow I'd be mighty grateful. We only have a 512gb connection, and that is monitored for excessive usage!!! All discs paid for etc...

Hi everyone!! I'm new around here - came across these brilliant forums looking for the Adywan edit :)

I'm with Rubix above.....I'd also love to see a re-post on Usenet of the 13gb 1080p versions of episodes 1-3 if possible?

Mr. WG,
P.S. Is it against the rules to ask assistance in getting hold of Empire and Jedi (1080p v2 editions)as my net access is capped.

I am also after some assistance in getting AHN, ESB,ROTJ(13gb editions?).

Thanks.

I realize I'm a bit late in jumping on this bandwagon, but are the 12-13 GB (untouched) versions of WG's transfers available anywhere? I would love to see them. I would be eternally grateful if a lucky owner were to post a mega-size torrent (I would most definitely seed!).

If you signed up to giganews, you'd still be able to grab them off the newsgroups.

i 've seen other 1080p versions on torrent sites, but
they look compressed (7 gigs each), i'm not sure
if these full versions are out there...they might be on TPB..

They're not available anywhere right now. On a.b.sw, all they have is RotJ (not enough to warrant the cover charge). Wookie Groomer has what is easily the best set, better than any of the supposedly 1080p transfers currently available. That's why I was asking for a torrent of all six. It would be a gigantic load, but I would seed it for as long as I could (I'd still have upwards of 20GB left on my HD, and I doubt I'd need more than that).

If you access a.b.sw through Giganews, the following are still available (I just checked), because of their 200 day binary retention:

All 3 13GB OT SE 1080P
Addicted to SW 6-in-1 1080P
All 3 OT v2 split screen 1080P

Even if you could find a torrent for all of this, it would take you 3 years to download! Giganews is your only realistic option.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

just out of curiousity,

maybe i missed it..

but how do the stations that air these HD versions get the
source material?or do they do their own upscaling/converting
of the video from a DVD?

just wondering,

Since when are dvd's used for broadcast, they are not HD quality in any sense of the word. Don't the station have Digital Video Tapes in some HD format?

The films were scanned by lowry at much higher resolution than dvd (2k or 4k?) and lucasfilm has those digital video masters, which they gave lower quality copies of to stations like cinemax better quality than the dvd still not full resolution equal to a blu ray release.

i was just taking a guess at the source..but after some digging...
yes, the studios do give some kind of high definition source
to the stations..more info...
http://www.hometheaterblog.com/hometheater/2006/04/mailbag-hd-movies-and-the-resolution-of-film/

however, problems are occuring, because some stations are
compressing the HD signal, like comcast :

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1008271

i have downloaded some 'supposed' 1080p versions of SW, that aren't
from wookiegroomer.....but dang, they look good!!!!! my tv only does
1080i, and 720p...but still they look pretty sharp...so you're right,
they did come from some HD masters...

I don't suppose I can BUY these of anyone burned to disk (I know I know just at the cost of disk and postage)....

Seems that there are quite a few folks out there who are realy keen to get ahold of these fantastic Wookiegroomer 13gb 1080p transfers.

I am fortunate to have the OT, episodes 4, 5 & 6 and they are magnificant - huge kudos to Wookiegroomer. I've posted here and on other threads asking for help in obtaining the prequels but sadly to no avail.

I have also emailed Wookiegroomer and asked if he'd consider re-posting all six on Usenet but he replied and said that he's done this on several occasions in the past and has no intention of doing it again. I understand his point but it seems a huge shame to me as there are clearly many fans of his work who have missed out on these which are far and away the most superior versions ever produced IMHO, simply by becoming aware of them too late....

Nevertheless I am very happy to assist anyone who wants episodes 4,5 and 6.

Please drop me a PM....

Cheers,

I wanted to say that Wideload has been really great with helping out fellow Star Wars fans to get this 1080p set, he's a fine example of what this forum is all about. :) Apparently the quality is quite high and Wookie Groomer did a superb job transferring it from the original copy from German t.v. :) Could someone please re-upload the 1080p 13 gig set of the prequels, as many seem to have missed those? :)

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.
