Well..... messing around with this today, I fixed it... and I didn't.

I ripped the movie from the first VTS using DVD Decrypter, converted the subtitles to NTSC with VobSub, remuxed the movie with MuxMan and then pushed it back into the DVD with VobBlanker.

Unfortunately the timings are still off. All subtitles are early by a good 2-3 seconds (across the whole film).
Also, some lines are too long for the font size used and get cut off.

I would need to either get the original .srt file or run this through OCR software to fix it at this point. So, I'll leave it to JoeyO.

JoeyO - Beware, I noticed that the subtitles are spelled as people talk.
"Dat dare Br'er Fox. He a bad un." I hope that's not what you're seeing as misspelled.
If you want help with the subs, PM me, and I'll take care of the srt file and send a corrected version back to you.
