Ady - I simply love the subtitle track that shows your changes. I missed so many subtle ones the first 2 times through.

Well I feel like I've been living under a rock. I didn't even know this edit and all the work that has gone into it existed until 2 days ago. Now I've just sat though the NTSC-DVD and my face is covered with a massive sh*t eating grin. Simply awesome work everyone...

So many notable positive edits, fixes and additions. Even the changes that didn't sound appealing (Vader/Ben saber fight scored being the main one) seemed to work really well. The subtitles during the Han/Greedo scene made me both LOL and cheer at the same time, class!!!

Just waiting on the DVD-9 for completeness now. By the way, I know Adywan has moved on from this edit now and is starting to think about ESB. But I thought I should mention that for the very first time I've noticed Luke's leg twitching (relax?) while he's on the deck after being KO'd by the Sandperson (about 29:20 on the NTSC version). I'm not suggesting this has been introduced by this edit but just that I have never spotted it before - weird. Only other tiny thing was a glitch in the audio of the Death Star briefing at (1:38:03), although I think I remember it being present on the 2004 DVDs - sounds like 'battle station it-is heavily shielded'.

So so so many amazing things in there though - I thought the additional FX sequences all worked perfectly and helped bridge the scenes outside of the existing shots, especially during battle/action scenes. The Death Star battle was much more indulgent with all the skirmishes going on.

To sum up, like so many others on this forum, this will be the version I watch from now on.

Kudos Adywan, Episode IV:R rocks - big time...

JangoJason, thanks for passing a copy of my edit to Peter Mayhew. It's kinda strange to think that one of the cast may have seen my version.

Well the DVD-9 is ticking along slowly. I have a few of the extras done but i've run out of ideas. I was going to do a mini " making of" that would feature both the making of the original film and this edit. but doing the commentary myself would just make me cringe, so that ideas been dropped.

Here's what is on the disc so far:

All extra features available on the DVD-5 plus.....

Isolated score track
StarBalls
Multi angle SP-FX breakdown featurette- Tie chases Biggs
Extended "Alderaan Destruction" scene.

I'm not sure how much more could actually be squeezed onto the disc until these ones are finished

What's StarBalls? Sounds either hilarious or frightening.

But what I'm looking forward to is the isolated score. Have been since you mentioned it!

I can only speak for myself, but I think it would be best if you don't "squeeze" too much more on to the DVD-9 so the bitrate for video does not suffer. You've got more than enough extras to satisfy everyone already and personally I'm just looking forward to the highest quality video that will provided by the DVD-9. Can't wait to see it, man.

The video bitrate is already set to the highest possible. It's set to 7000kbps average 8000kbps max. If i push it any higher then some players will have issues with the video due to DVD bitrate limitations. The main video has already been rendered so all i am doing is filling the extra space with what i can.

Holy crap! That's awesome that Peter Mayhew got a copy of Ady's work!

We can only hope that Ady might get the kind of attention that the Phantom Editor did!

(And is it too much to hope that a groundswell of more mainstream interest might motivate Lucas to release the original Original Unaltered Trilogy in archival preservation-style anamorphic remastering on DVD at least if not on Blu-ray?... It might be.)

I just hope Lucasfilm doesn't become jealous that Adywan's DVD is better than theirs and try to sic him with their lawyers or something. Although with the disclaimer at the beginning and all that, Adywan did everything he should have to protect himself.
Lucasfilm seems to be generally ok with fan edits and related projects. Let's hope it stays that way and, if anything, encourages them to do better in the quality control department in the future.

We can only hope Lucas is ok with this fan edit, because if he isn't, this might spell certain doom for future edits from anyone. I guess time will tell.

Ady, I noticed a few typos in the "changes" subtitle track; I know some of them have been pointed out already by others. Part of my job involves proofreading, so I'm quite good at catching and correcting these types of errors. If you'd be interested, I'd be happy to give your subtitle file(s) a thorough going-over. Actually I was asking this because 8t88 contacted me about Dutch subs. I made a lot of special modifications myself and did send then to him, because he made the first version of them. So if you get them, will there still be a possibility, they will be included on the DVD 9?
