It is nowhere near finished yet, unfortunately. When I finish World 2 (hopefully in a few weeks), I will probably put out a demo.

Just out of curiosity, how come you're using the SMB3 (All-Stars) Goomba instead of the SMW Goomba? Just a personal preference of look, or is it because the SMW Goombas don't die when stepped on?
It is a combination of both.

Maybe I'm misinformed, but isn't SMW the only Mario game where the Goombas were like that? Because from my understanding that's the only game that didn't have them as angry walking mushrooms, so it may have something to do with continuity.

Well, technically, they're designed as angry, walking chestnuts, not mushrooms, as their original name, Kuribo, implies. Semantics aside, yes, that is the only game where stomping on them doesn't kill them, so I was wondering if he personally didn't like the unconventional SMW version, and maybe that's why he replaced it.

I really always hated the unconventional SMW version of the Goombas, so in my version, they are stompable and look "normal" again. In SMW in Japan, they were called "Kuribon," which may be implying that they were a separate sub-species. Who knows? I'm just aiming for consistency. That was pretty much the only game where they were like that. In Japan, they've always been chestnuts, sure, but in the US at least they have always been mushrooms. And SMW had some other issues with enemy continuity (see above, I also changed the Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bros. and Sumo Bros. to be more like SMB3-style Hammer Bros.).

I love SMW, one of my favorite games of all time, but I have always disliked the Goombas in that game. When looking at the screen shots of your Mario game, the Goombas were the first thing that stood out to me, I think they look much better than the original SMW Goombas.

I also noticed you changed the Fire Flower back to the SMB3 vesion.

You're right, he sure did! I didn't even notice that. While the SMW Goombas never really bothered me, the tulip-based Fire Flowers just never did it for me.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Well, now that Brawl's out, what do you guys think of it? I personally think it's fantastic (the best yet, even), but I do have a few little quibbles about it.

-The Adventure mode (Subspace Emissary) gets really repetitive really quickly, but the animated cutscenes in between are fantastic. Normally I don't like too many cutscenes in games, but these are just awesome (especially Donkey/ Diddy Kong's entrances).

-Snake. Doesn't need to be in there. He looks out of place, he feels out of place, and his move set sucks (except his Final Smash move, which is arguably the best out of all the characters).

-The Masterpieces (the little game demos in the Vault) feel kind of pointless. The demo of Kid Icarus is ridiculously short. Instead of having a timer, they should have just made it so that you could play until the end of a level.

Other than that, I really can't think of anything. This game is a must-own. I'd give it a 9.5/10

I think in many ways I like the core gameplay of Melee better... but the extras and options in Brawl are absolutely incredible.

Okay, I just now unlocked Sonic the Hedgehog, and I have to say, even though Snake is lame, Sonic more than makes up for it. Sonic is arguably the best character in the game.

One thing that bugs me though: one of the stages is the Green Hill Zone, and you can see Knuckles running around in the background. Why couldn't they have just put him in the game?!

They already had the entire cast crossover in M&SATOG. Plus every extra character means a lot of extra encoding and balancing.

I just wish they'd gotten a CapCom character to have the ultimate old school triumvirate of Sega, Konami, and CapCom.

I'd like to have unlocked Sonic, but I've not played Brawl at all today since I played so much yesterday I hurt my wrist.

Well, I'm just saying I'd rather have Tails/Knuckles as Sonic clones rather than more Star Fox clones. Now we've got Fox, Falco, and Wolf, and they all do the exact same thing. You'd think that the Star Fox franchise wouldn't be so well represented considering how it's been shafted so badly over the past ten years or so.

Now as for Capcom, what character from their roster would you have liked to have seen in the game? I personally would have loved to see Goemon from the "Mystical Ninja" series.

MegaMan for sure. His B move would be like Samus's but otherwise his entire move set could be based on powers he's stolen from his various bosses over the years.

Maybe Ryu or Ken from Street Fighter, though if I were programming the game I'd make it Cammy White.

Maybe Leon S. Kennedy, making him a clone of Snake.

Also, Phoenix Wright should be an assist trophy.

Megaman!

EDIT: Wow, Chaltab beat me to it. Yeah, some street fighter characters would have been cool. I still think Snake makes no sense at all in that game. Leon wouldn't make sense either, but there are more Resident Evil games for Nintendo than there are MGS games. A Megaman clone as Protoman would be cool too.

Something that rather baffles me: Why was Mario's Down-B replaced with the FLUDD? The spin attack from the first two smash games could easily be tied to Mario's spin attack in Super Mario Galaxy with just a slight animation change (Make a Luma fly around him!)...

But instead, they changed it to something from a five-and-a-half year old game that's really not even considered all that great to begin with, in comparison with Mario's legacy.

I know, the FLUDD part disappointed me. Oh well, never liked him as a character anyway.

But... but... but... but... but it's Mario! How can anyone not like Mario? He is more known around the world than Mickey freakin Mouse! Everybody loves Mario...

I honestly think they should make a Nintendoland to compete with Disneyland. Maybe even a Nintendoworld. I know I'd take my kids. They could have a show with people dressed up like Nintendo characters (in those costumes from the original Super Smash Bros. TV ad), fighting and trying to knock one another out of the ring. They could also have a cool Donkey Kong mineshaft ride. An "Its a Small World After All" rip off with mushroom people. They could make a Pokemon sufari sort of thing for little kids where you go on a tour through a land filled with anamatronic Pokemon. A pirates of the Caribean rip off feature Kaptian K. Rool and his pirates from Donkey Kong Country 2. A Metroid themed Space Mountian rip off. A few Zelda themed rides, etc. They have a lot of material to work with. Of course it could never work, Disney reaches a lot wider of an audience than Nintendo does, every kid who watches cartoons sees a few things Disney, but not every kid who plays video games is exposed to Nintendo trademark characters.

That is a freakin' awesome idea! I would totally go and I don't even have kids.

Yeah, no kidding! Screw Nintendo 'World' Store, this would be SO much better than a dinky corner shop in New York.

I don't have kids yet either, but if something like this were to be made, I would definitely have to start making some so I could take them.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I meant SSB-wise, not in general. I <3 mario.
Oh, and also, did anyone else notice how poor Luigi is always portrayed as a coward? He deserves more, he's the cooler one. I mean, that pansy was scared of ONE Waddle Dee, come on! Then he just gets turned into a trophy right like that.

Nintendo world FTW.

I just got done with a few games and finally unlocked Sonic. He's... alright, I guess. I won the game I played as him, but he just felt like a Pikachu without the electricity to me.

Mario and Peach still own. Peach's final smash is almost too good to be fair. :D

Has anyone heard anything about a release date for Majora's Mask on the VC?

Nothing so far, Sage. Of course there's always the collectors edition if you're willing to give thirty bucks at a Gamestop and re-buy three games you probably already have.

Ugh, collector's edition. Don't waste your time, Majora's Mask is so flipping buggy on it.

Looks like Nintendo's got something big coming for the Holidays this year, at least according to Fils-Aime:
