thanks djsmoking for the link. ^_^

Has anyone done a video of the ED games? I actually dug the first xbox one (Fist Full of Boomstick).

What about the Evil Dead 2 screening Q&A? I have video of it someplace on a dvdr, but it's never ever mentioned here. I think mine is in mpg or avi. I'll have to check. Is there any interest in this anyways? or do I need to ask? lol

Absolutely, all those would be good additions. I remember someone talking about putting the scenes from Regeneration onto the Untitled Bruce Campbell Project that's been on-and-off for a while now. I take it the Q&A is just with Bruce?
Author

It's been a while since I watched it, but the Q&A is shot by a fan either before or after a screening of the movie. It's just Bruce being fielded questions and all, and it cuts off suddenly (the info when I downloaded it a few years ago was that the fan was caught video taping and had to ditch the camera). I'll find it when I get home and get the exact specs of it (I remember it being 20-40mins long).

Thanks for the AOD EPK info. I think the R4 MGM has the Euro AOD trailer as it starts out w/ the AOD skulls & crossbones logo, IIRC.

Haha, something funny I picked up last night while watching this that I'd never noticed before...

In the S-Mart ending, look at the right hand side of the frame, as the camera tracks in from the Deadite to Ash in the last "Hail to the king baby" shot; standing there is none other than Bridget Fonda as Linda, even though she's obviously meant to died at the beginning of the film! Guess they really were desperate for extras, which accounts for William Lustig and Bernard Rose hovering around in the background as S-Mart customers...

I'll have to watch that last few frames again.

Probably since Universal wanted them to shoot another ending, they thought it would be funny to bring back the other cast members.

Awesome news on this one, can't wait to check it out!:-)

Have you thought about trying to clean up Within The Woods? That would be pretty great to see.

Another Evil Dead project I was wondering if anyone had attempted was a preservation of the early 80s Japanese LD transfer, which seems to look a lot better than any subsequent 3:4 LD or DVD releases, which going by what I can find have warmer colours, are missing a lightning strike scene, and at points are zoomed in (I only have the later transfer - have only seen screenshots of the Hologram JP LD).

Some info here:

I see this Japanese Laserdisc for sale all the time on various Japanese auction sites. I'd be willing to buy it if someone with a LD player would be willing to convert it to a digital format. My only concern in use of it for a preservation effort would be the possibility that the subtitles are embedded.

Concerning the Japanese Evil Dead LD: I got the Evil Dead: Ultimate Edition, and finally got around to looking at it. The framing on that scene on the Fullscreen disk is correct. It looks like the Japanese LD. The lightning scene is also in the movie.

Which Ultimate Edition is it; the newest Anchor Bay release OR the German UE?

The newest Anchorbay one.

That's the shot from my DVD. It comes with three disks: A widescreen disk, a fullscreen disk, and a bonus disk. As for the lightning scene:

I did check with the Elite DVD, that shot of Cheryl has the "camera" advance on her face, resulting in the off framing. It looks more like they added that close up to make the scene scarier.

Interesting screenshots, I know someone in Japan who bought the Hologram LD, but not sure if they had the time to convert it to DVD yet.

Anyway, how does the new Evil Dead release look for the Ash's bruises?

I just realized that my screenshots might be a tiny bit lighter (but not by much) than what they actually are. I'm pulling these out of PowerDVD, and I have some settings messed up in it.

Thanks. That looks pretty good. The bluish hue of the LD seems a bit more unreal, but the UE DVD might be the easier way to go. I wonder why AB allowed the lightning shot to be included now? Maybe they forgot that Sam Raimi has a problem with it.

Just as a follow-up to earlier enquiries in this thread about the source of the AB Director's Cut, and the deleted scenes that haven't made it to DVD yet (like Charles Napier as Ash's boss in an alternate intro), this old posting by Michael Felsher from the Mobius forums should shed some light. Not good news, unfortunately:

"ARMY OF DARKNESS
Q: Many readers believe or hope that there are better materials on that director's cut than those that were used. One reader mentions that the European version contains some of the footage and is supposed to be in very good shape. Could you describe if the search for materials for AOD included overseas resources, and clarify if you believe better materials were and/or are available?

A: For several months, both StudioCanal and myself literally searched the world for Director’s Cut film elements. The best we could find was a Japanese D2 of the cut international version with the apocalyptic ending. So to create the ARMY Director’s cut, we assembled the best elements using Bruce’s personal ¾” tape – the only existing element in the world of Sam’s original cut.

FYI, there were 3 edits of this film – Sam’s original version, the cut international version with the apocalyptic ending and the Universal version. The original production company destroyed all the ARMY outtake footage when they went bankrupt."

Then again, they obviously didn't look too hard if MGM found the original elements... ;)

I was all ready to get the MGM R3 edition, when I suddenly remembered this edit (which, IIRC, I hesitated to watch because of the AR changes).

Re-reading the details, I suddenly can't wait to see this. The restored lines of dialog from the theatrical cut, SciFi channel deleted scenes and the theatrical ending make this the most ideal edit for me... (though I still hate the idea of shifting aspect ratios.)

Cheers RidgeShark for your hard work.

Btw, does anyone know, now that SciFi has SciFi HD, if they'll be showing AoD? It might give a better source for the deleted material (and easier to be cropped/resized to match AR).

Even if SciFi HD does show AoD, it will probably be pillarboxed SD. I caught them doing that when seeing if they'd broadcast later (shot in 16:9) episodes of The X-Files, and they were just 4:3 pillarboxed.

I had heard SciFi was doing that... even with some of their new series.

Were none of the extra scenes available on DVD as deleted material?

I was reading about the different releases that have been produced of this film around the world and many include 'deleted scenes' as extra content.

There's a few scenes and alternate edits that are only present in the cable TV version. SciFi is usually the one that airs it, but I've also seen it on AMC. Anyway, I just doubt there's a chance of that edit being broadcast in HD because if someone at the network were to go and get an HD broadcast master of Army of Darkness, I'm sure it would be an amended theatrical edit and not feature much, if any, extra content.

RidgeShark and I are working on a preservation of the Sci-Fi cut (from a 2004 broadcast) with some extras for the Evil Dead Treasures Collection. (Still need to contact you about that Alex, sorry!)  Apparently the image on recent broadcasts has degraded over the years, and the version we're using is a bit sharper than what you'd see nowadays.  Not to mention that logos and "Next on Sci-Fi..." bits are much less intrusive than what you'd see today too.

The main differences in the Sci-Fi cut are two extended scenes not in any other cut (Ash and Arthur fighting when Ash first lands in 1300 AD, and a longer build up in the windmill to Ash crashing into the windmill), as well as edits and overdubs for violence and profanity.  ("I never saw these apeheads before!")  The two exclusive scenes are in the deleted scenes on the DVD in scratchy, unfinished rough cut form, whereas they are finished with score and sound effects here.  (Some of the shots are a bit different too.)

I sent you an email about this, but I have a recording of a 2002/03(?) broadcast on VHS. It's not in great shape, I recorded it in SLP mode, but I can send you my original tape (if I didn't throw it away yet...) if you want that for any reason.

Have you considered using avisynth's logo removal software?

Working with ABC's Harry Potter broadcast I found it very effect for removing the ABC logo, and although screwy, it can make the screen bugs less obtrusive too.

I have a SP VHS master of Sci Fi's cut when it was aired in 2000 or so. Only watched it a couple of times. I think a satellite captured today would look better than my VHS copy.

Looks like Lacerated has a better offer on the table, though.
