there was a problem with the BTTF discs, and i guess that you could send them Universal for a touchup or a fixup...

There was a framing problem on the widescreen version. Instead of going back to the original footage to make widescreen copies, they took the already cut down pan and scan and then added black bars to the top and bottom to make it appear widescreen. So a ton of the original viewing area was shot. I think it only affected one of the three movies and I want to say it was #2.

I thought that all the copies that were currently in distribution were the new version. BTTF came out in November/December 2002 on DVD and they decided to rectify the situation after Christmas had passed so as not to miss out on any holiday sales. So they should have taken care of getting new copies out in January/February 2003 with replacement discs sent out to owners of the bad set by the middle of 2003. I never knew that you could look for v2 on the barcode to tell the difference. Will have to check that out.

It was mostly that it was framed too high. One of may reasons why I hate 1.85:1 films.

I have no idea. Were R2 BTTF sets released at the same time as R1? If so, then I'd assume that might be the case.

Apparently it was only the R1 version because the problem was caught before the other regions were pressed; of course I'm only going on memory of what I heard @ the time.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

i doubt that R1 and R2 discs were released at the same time... not much point in having two different region codes if youre releasing them at the same time.

it was both BTTF 2 and 3... and yes the fixed DVD sets are said to have a small V2 on the back barcode where the "widescreen" or "full screen" label is...

in fact i got in touch with universal today and they told me they will send me a prepaid envelope to send them the discs in... and then they will send me the corrected discs ASAP... i was rather impressed with the service... i was expecting to get the run around for a bit... but nope...

I doubt you're the first to complain. That might be why they're being so "nice" about it all.

MY COUSIN HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, LUKE. HE SENT HIS DVDs TO UNIVERSAL AND RECEIVED HIS NEW SET. AS FAR AS RETAILERS GO I HAVE YET TO SEE THE V2 IN STORES. IT MAKES ME WONDER IF UNIVERSAL IS PERPOSELY NOT SENDING THE V2s TO THE RETAILERS AND HAVE THOSE WHO ACTUALLY BUY THE SET SEND THEM BACK IN ORDER TO MOP UP THIER MESS IN THE STORES FOR THEM. WHY PAY TO HAVE ALL OF THE SETS SENTS BACK WHEN WE CAN HAVE THE CUSTOMERS DO IT ONE AT A TIME.

Man I've checked the back of my box and I can't find any V2 shit, anywhere!!
I'm gonna have to watch them again to see if anythings wrong!
I bought the VHS boxset when that first came out, and before that had the rental release when that came out.

I should notice if anythings wrong. I just can't be arsed to watch them again.

Why is it, that when you're younger, and when these films, or any film for that matter, come out you love them!

I mean, how many times do you watch them in the cinema.
Not talking about Star Wars now, cos man I saw them a few times in my local cinema. Which was only a 5 min walk from my house. The good old days when a 8 - 11 year old was allowed to go to the cinema by himself be brainwashed by the greatest films of all time.

Then they come out on DVD for the fist time in some too highly priced box set, but when you watch them for maybe the first time in 5 years or so, and they never seem as good. Not the OT of Star Wars though. no no..I always watch Star Wars man. Love 'em. Gotta my fix of ESB every now and then. Usually when I get home from a night out pissed. Dunno why but I just gotta put the video on and watch it in bed. Much to the annoiance of my girlfriend lying next to me.
But she knew what she was getting into when she met me.

Well maybe they do, I dunno..

Forgot my point........

If I recall right, this set was put out by Paramount. So I'd suggest checking their site. There should be something on it about Customer Service and likely an FAQ about the set.

Okay well im gonna make this easy for everyone here...
lol

i had phone numbers and all but since i lost my bookmarks im kinda lost now...
so what i did is went to the Universal website and emailed them telling them of the problem... in which they told me to send them my mailing address and they would send me the prepaid evelope ...

well i got that today and mailed it out... they said in the letter i got today i should have it in a couple days.. so its not like it will take a long time either...
and to those who live in Ontario where i do... i must say we are the luckier ones because the discs are coming from Toronto.. hehe

maybe thats why it takes such a short time??

but anyway ya... just send them an email telling them of the problem... u should be fine!
