No, the mix has been rebuilt using various sources. At the last count i was using 225 separate audio tracks to create the 5.1 mix. It uses the 2004 DVD 5.1, the SE laserdisc 5.1 & extra effects from my star wars effects library. I was able to gain better separation by adding more sound effects and ambience where needed and also rebuilding the complete mix from the ground up in places. It was surprisong to me just how bad the official DVD mix is. not only do you have reversed music in the rear channels but hell of a lot of the sound FX are coming from the incorrect sides in the front channel. Ben Burtt made one hell of a cock-up with this mix. I can't see how the hell anyone at ILM couldn't have spotted this.
I'm still not 100% happy with the mix and i might be doing some more tweaking for the final release. As it stands now i'm about 90% and i doubt i will get it to 100% but there are a few things i want to redo for the DVD-9's

Is your tweaks just frequency based?

As I understand it there is no mistake from Ben Burtt's part : reversing the rear channels was intentional. Don't ask me why he did this though, sounds as dumb to me as it does to you.
