I just read Ady's suggestion and was going to give that a try, but I see you beat me to it. I think it's looking more and more like we'll never see this thing work with the Toshiba HD-DVD players which is frustrating, but not the end of the world. Maybe the DVD-9 will miraculously work where the DVD-5 does not. I'm sure that won't be the case, but it never hurts to hope.
