Given the "loop" nature of the Matrix universe your edit sides with, it would be nice to see the moment in the train station when Neo runs out one side and comes back in the other - it's a good metaphor for the series and a foreshadow of your ending. Maybe Neo could dream that? And excuse me if that shot is in your edit, I don't remember it but maybe I missed it.
I did take that scene out, mainly because I had taken out the proceeding scene with Trinity, Morpheus, and Seraph driving in the car (which I removed because I felt it was an unneeded scene) and there were no longer any scenes to act as an "intro" buffer to the Neo's loop scene.
(although to be honest, I never really cared for that scene to begin with)

Personally, I think the W brothers had probably planned that the big twist would be that the "real world" was a Matrix within the Matrix, the idea being that if people BELIEVED they had escaped, they wouldn't look any further. But I think since fans were predicting this would be the case, the film makers abandoned that idea just to avoid being predictable.

I think the bigger problem was that the filmmakers (or the Studio, for that matter) wrote the sequels based on what they thought the audiences' wanted to see in the films.

Only the W Bros know what really happened between the Matrix and it's sequels...

I have two guesses:

1. The Ws didn't want to do sequels and the studios basically had other people ghost-write and direct them but still put the bros name on it (which is what they sequels FEEL like)

2. The Ws basically spent 10 years developing "The Matrix," slowly adding things to the mix, talking it out, "borrowing" from other sources, and just having fun creating this world they never actually expected to go anywhere. Then, when faced with having to do 2 more movies in 3 years, they just didn't have it in them; the first film basically exhausted all their creative inspiration and contained all their favorite "homages" where their true creativity came from.

I'm sure the first "conspiracy theory" is unlikely, but when you watch the first film it just feels so much like it was made by someone entirely different; none of the creative or stylistic genius of the first film is present in the sequels; it really is like someone else tried to capture the look at feel of The Matrix and turn it into a franchise without any true understanding of what made the original so great.

Then again, that's what Lucas did when he made HIS sequels (i.e. prequels). But then again, I think a lot of people now realize that Lucas' help (his producer Gary Kurtz, director Irvin Kershner) had a large role in crafting the early movies. Was there anyone with a big hand in "The Matrix" that was missing from the sequels?

Progress on the DVD version has been going VERY SLOWLY - I had a bunch of crap going on in life and kinda had to put it on the backburner at times.
I hope (repeat, hope) to have it finished by the second week of March.

On the plus side, I will be adding another extra to the DVD:
When I first started work on this edit (many, many months ago...), I had concepted another ending instead of the current one that's one the Edit. Although the 1st ending had a few interesting ideas to it, I ultimately decided not to use it and created the current ending in it's place, which I feel is much more satisfying and engaging. However, I thought maybe a few people might like to see it, so I'll be including it on the DVD as an easter egg.

Hint: the "first" ending uses footage from a film that's not part of the Matrix

There's a torrent available, but it's also on Rapidshare, which is slightly better than the torrent version (just some additional tweaks to the audio and visual quality)
For the Rapidshare version, go to fanedit.org

The Enter the Matrix scenes that were used are the live-action segments from the game, which were ripped from the Ultimate Matrix Collection (and the aspect ratios do match)

thank you

I wrote an article on the matrix movies onace and had an idea for an ending to the matrix trikogy (im not sure if this is what you have done sas I have skipped the spoilers).

But what if the whole point of Neo is to balance the equuation (as the architect says) in his speech.
so actually what happens is that each time neo balances the equation the program ends (kind of like a holodeck form star trek) and the universe just reboots. in this case neo could reawaken at the start of the first matrix film again. But its not a dream its just an endles cycle of the quation going out of balance and rebalancing.

in this case Neo becomes a sort of tool of slavery, it seems like he is saving the world but in actuality he is stopping the program from crashing when the humans start to realise their is problem intergral to the problem.

Having downloaded and watched the film, and enjoyed it much more than the originals I should add, I have a quick question. This is coming from an editing background, so I subconsciously analyze movies that way now. Anyway, to the question;

- Was it just me or did the sequences with Niobe and Ghost seem, well, jammed in there? For instance, when the highway chase was going on there was all this excitement and then suddenly we see them getting a call from someone. Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention. Same thing with them and the first Trainman scene. I didn't really understand why that was in there.

Of course, I did just watch the version I got off some random torrent, so maybe it's not the final one. None of this ruined the experience by the way, I'm just curious as to your reasons, Jason.

I'm very excited about this release, since it sounds like the fanedit closest to the original Matrix film. I have Dezionized and Squared (I dug squared better) and haven't gotten Hacked yet, but what I've read (and I'm trying to keep spoiler free) I can't wait for this.

Alternate ending with footage not from any of the Matrix movies? Is it the Dallas/Family Guy ending? lol

The two "Niobe/Ghost" scenes (which were taken from Enter the Matrix) were added for a few reasons:

- The "Tunnels/72 Hours" scene was added partly for some reasons of my own (mostly esoteric stuff in relation to The Matrix), but I had also wanted to introduce the Trainman at an earlier point of the film instead of the way it was done in Revolutions and to have his words lead to concern in Niobe (which would cause her to ignore Locke decision to stay in Zion and go after Morpheus and Neo).

- The "Car Start" scene replaced the original version in Reloaded because I removed all the scenes with Link in the 'Real' World and I needed a scene to show the audience that Niobe had in fact left Zion and entered the Matrix in search of Morpheus.

DrGonzo369: No, it's not Family Guy.
But... it is from a movie that came out the same year as The Matrix
