It also has a slightly different sound mix to the others along with a couple of very minor tweaks to a couple of shots and revised end credits that will be the version on the DVD-9's. I'm pretty sure i have the L & R channels a bit too high so i have lowered them slightly. Anyone that will be getting this version could you please let me know about the audio and if this sounds better so i can get an accurate assessment ready for the DVD-9 versions.

Damn, I love the current DVD5 and I can play it perfectly on my dvd player and ps3, but I am a completist so I will have to download this one too.

I came to the conclusion long ago that we probably won't see the real final version until around the third release of the DVD-9. I'm considering everything up to that a test build.

Ya...I'd say if you are happy with the current DVD5, and you plan to download the DVD9, just wait for that to get all of the minor tweaks, etc.....they're all great....even the xvid rocked! I guess as slow as this download is for me, that's another incentive for me to just wait.....it would take me another week to download another slightly tweaked version....but for those with a faster way of downloading....go for it. Peace!

Can you tell us what precisely these other few "Minor tweaks" are in the repack? I'm very curious now...!

It's really minor. its only the two shots of the ships leaving the Death Star. I moved Yavin over further because it became slightly pixelated due to the compression when the sparks reached it. moving it over fixed this. the only other things are the end credits to remove someone's name and lowering of the left & right channel very slightly so no big difference. The video is now complete and this will be the version on the DVD-9's

There will only be one version out of each DVD-9's. Also i won't be doing any changes to the music in the Vader/Ben fight. It just wouldn't work replacing the original music to its original place because of battle of the heroes. And the final shot of Tarkin was removed due to the extra footage of the firing sequence. Its was only a repeat shot from earlier on anyway and i don't miss it.

I've had a listen to the "bong" mentioned during the Jawa capture of R2 and i can't hear anything that sounds like a windows ping. The only thing i can thing of when listening to it is that you are hearing one of the instruments that you haven't noticed before.
I also noticed that in the (1997 CGI) shot of Luke's X-wing flipping in front of the camera as the TIE chases it (as he's saying "I can't shake him!") you didn't fix the "Red 5" markings on the wings of his craft (though you did in another shot, which was cool.... all the CG added X-wings had just two hatch marks on the wings, for Red 2).

Oh well i missed that one. I won't be doing any more changes to the video now. i just want this thing done with

That is very possible. I never noticed Threepio's shifting saturation level before your edit either, so I'm learning all kinds of things. But I'll give it another listen. It was just one isolated note that didn't sound like anything else in the mix, so I assumed it wasn't an instrument.

As you can see here some of the colour is missing on the badge on the 2004 DVD so there was not a lot i could do about it. The saturation wasn't touched for the badge and remains the same as it is in the 2004 DVD. It just shows what a mess the colouring of the official DVD was. And you've just got to love the guy's purple uniform in the official DVD.

Those badges are sort of a pet peeve of mine, but this is very anal of me and I don't expect anyone else to care about this. But I've recently grown very annoyed with the rank badge system in ANH. It seems totally random with a confusing mix of red, blue and yellow squares. Tarkin is the only one that seems to have a somewhat proper insignia.

Fast forward to The Empire Strikes Back: a new and much more logical system has now been concieved. If one is familiar with how the insignias work, it is then very simple to look at Piett and know that he is a captain (at the beginning) becaue he has a rank badge with 6 rank squares and 1 rank cylinder. Veers is also easily distincgushed a major general, Ozzel as a fleet admiral, etc. My personal fantasy would be to replace the ANH badges with ESB style ones, because those in ANH are confusing and kind of look more like toys (can't explain it, just a feeling). At least, if there is any sort of exact system to the ANh rank badge system, I'm not seeing it. Unfortuantely I came in way to late to this thread to suggest this. But as I say, I doubt many people acre or even notice this minor thing anyway. I guess it's just the neurotic in me speaking

Unfortunately, I have no need for the PAL version, so I haven't downloaded it. I haven't seen it availible as a torrent anywhere yet, which I find really strange, as the NTSC version was torrented REALLY quickly.

Sorry that I can't help you (or others) with it.

Bud, I TOTALLY understand your comments about people moaning about the torrents et al...

But you're also seeing "gripes" where there aren't any.

I think everyone INCLUDING Ady realised I was having a laugh re: the *credits* crawl.
I also think if you hadn't gotten into your particular mindset on this one, maybe 'you' would have too.... Relax.

Cheers

Not sure where to post this info.... None of the other threads seem 'right'.
So seeing as how most people seem to be reading this one...

"Corvette Summer " starring a certain young Mr Hamill has just been posted in alt.binaries.dvdr

I know most of you guys are seasoned pros at all of this NEWSGROUP stuff, but I have been googling and trying to figure out how and what I need, without much success. I'm on a MAC so that complicates my choices.

I've been trying the torrent thing for this download and it is taking forever. At my current rate, I may have this thing by mid-next week sometime. (A week to download) I guess I'm thinking ahead to the DVD-9, and I do not want to go this route as it would probably take a month to download.

If anyone is willing would you please provide some guidance as far as the newsgroups? It seems like a way faster way to get this edit, and I'm sorry I know nothing about this junk.

Thanks, and to all of you veterans of this forum, I know these posts make some of you angry, (probably thinking, who would not understand this stuff, what a beginner loser), but I promise I'm not whining, etc., I'm just looking for some honest help!

Is this different from the official DVD release?

gavin77 - EDIT: carbonunit beat me to it and actually posted the link I saw the other day......gotta love the peeps here

I use Easynews.com.....since it is web based you do not a client that works on MAC. You could also use giganews as well. Same type of situation.

Both sites have a small monthly fee...usually priced by GB.

A few pages pages there were a couple of posts that had links for people new to news groups and I think it had a list of the different places to sign up as well as other instructions.

I have been using easynews for several years now and the only problem I have had with them is recently......they do not show incomplete files anymore....and the first posting of the NTSC version had some incompletes and it was hard for me to get those few so I could repair them. I ended up using a client to connect to easynews as they had the files.....just do not show them in their web interface.

Hope this at least gets you going

It looks like just about 10 to 13 more files on the REPACK version being uploaded.....and it will be on. Hopefully I will get to download tonight so I can watch in the morning like Old-School Saturday Morning Cartoons....but with Stars Wars Revisited

Ady,
I wanted to know your humble opinion on......How do you feel having fans all over the world? I think I have now heard from over 100 people just in Texas wanting copies of this thing and now from Atlanta as well. The NTSC version is being downloaded and copied in huge numbers. I had asked the question a page or so back but it got caught in the bickering that I apologize for

I haven't done a comprehensive search, but I did have a quick look and I didn't find any... I know he's packed the disc pretty full so maybe not on the 5 but on the 9? This is all just speculation, of course...

He originally planned to have one, but shortly before it was finished he said he ran out of space and had to drop it. So no, there is not an Easter egg on the DVD-5.

I did not bother to check because I thought I had read the same thing about running out of space as C3PX did. It is a full DVD....and the 3D Jaba scene is fun

Look like all of the rars are available for the REPACK

I do not think all of the pars have shown up yet but there are not any incomplete files so you may not need them.

Thanks again Ady!!!!!
