and as far as hd dvd players being the best upconvert players in the market,I beg to differ there.

You might beg to differ, but you'd be wrong. As I said before, I have the XA2 and it has pretty much been universally praised as the best upconverting DVD player on the market. Read the reviews and you'll see this claim validated.

Edit: I see hempler already beat me to it.

Well i know someone who has the Uk version of the XA2 (the HD-XE1 whcih is the exact same machine but with PAL & NTSC playback)and the upconverting is pretty poor compared to the UK PS3. We tested this a few months ago when her purchased it by plugging both into my HDMI switch box and switching between signals while watching the same DVD). I guess its seems to differ between regions then if you say its better than the ps3 and you have the NTSC version ( and don't forget that the PAL PS3 differs greatly from that of the NTSC version). I'm going to call him tomorrow to see if he can check both versions on his player . I'll report back when its been tested

Even if HD-DVD is a "dead format" now, people are still going to have their X-Box 360's for the foreseeable future (PS3 is doing poorly as a gaming platform in comparison anyway).

Does anyone on this forum have a combo player? I wonder how those would work with this.

Well it has been reported that it works on the Xbox360 HD-DVD player both here ( the PAL version) and the NTSC version from someone i know in the USA so its looking more like the problem is lying with the Toshiba players
