That's the rapidshare stuff for the DVD-5. I'm personally still waiting on the ntsc torrent. It doesn't seem to have been posted anywhere yet... at least not that I've seen.

Nobody's PMed me yet either (no surprise). Though I'm sure people realize the reason I said that is because generally they don't like torrent url's being posted in the forums (not because I'm just lazy!).

I am waiting for a torrent.

There is no need to do any type of encoding when burning the DVD. The DVD comes as an iso file. all you have to do is open the iso file using nero or any other burning software and then burn the dvd. It is only best to burn at a slow speed when using cheap media, but when using good quality media it is best to burn at the rated speed.

Sorry that you are having problems playing the DVD in your HD-DVD players. I don't know what make those players are but if its Toshiba then i can understand the problem. i had a Toshiba DVD player that was very picky on not only media but also the bitrates during playback. the NTSC DVD-5 has a lower bitrate on the menus and special features than its PAL counterpart. This was unavoidable or the NTSC version would have had only a couple of the special features that were featured on the PAL disc. But that doesn't explain why you are having problems playing the movie. But it seems to be HD-DVD players that are having this problem, and only certain models. I'm just glad i went with bluray

ALL versions of this, and the associated ways to download (RS, torrents, newsgroups) will be posted on the fanedit.org page for this edit.

Since I am having the problem in the same exact spot as was previously mentioned, I don't think it has to do with the media, but it may be a bitrate issue (it is the NTSC version that I have, not sure about anyone else that may be having issues with HD players)... I've never had problems playing burns on the A3 before now, and this is NOT the disc to start with!

With the news that Toshiba is out of the HD hardware game, I guess we'll all be going blu-ray soon enough.

I guess I'll have to break out the old dvd player (or buy an upconverter)...

Ady:

Well, just flicked thru the DVD (btw I played it in an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player and the thing looks absolutely frickin amazing!)

First thing that springs out to me is the image quality - I cant see how you can better it for the DVD 9: absolutely amazing transfer.

The menus, hell - just everything about it - is on such a professional level you have utterly utterly shamed Lucasfilm. I actually considered sending them a copy (I wouldnt charge them of course lol) and asking them to send you a medal. Of course they are more likely to send lawyers - a sad fact.

So - thank you Ady: cant wait for Empire Revisited lol!!!

I do hope Lucas or someone at LFL eventually sees this like they did with "The Phantom Edit". I think it would be genuinely embarrassing for them to see that one man single-handedly did a better job restoring this film than a multi-billion dollar company did.

Adywan, I am likewise AMAZED.

After I'd watched and paused MANY times to marvel at your changes (most of which I wouldn't have noticed aside from the subtitle track --- thank you for its inclusion) I dug out my copy of "Shrek 3D" (actually its glasses) to watch the Jabba scene.

Overall stunning. Looking forward to the DVD9, of course, but delighted and awed by what you've accomplished.

My only question....the only disappointment....was that I'd hoped to see the cover on the disc. But, all things considered, I can be patient in waiting for it!

Thank you, sir. I'm grateful.

Unfortunately there just wasn't any room to put the covers on the disc. i'll be keeping those for the DVD-9 version. Plus my official cover will be revealed the day before the DVD-9 is ready. I'd still like to figure out the problem the HD-DVD players are having with the movie though. Was it the NTSC versions that were causing the problems? And has anyone had any problems in other players? I'd like to get this issue resolved for the DVD-9

Unfortunately, who really knows how people burnt their discs? I would not be surprised to hear discs having problems that were burned on cheap discs, burned at high speeds....

If you burn your disc at anything but its slowest possible speed you will have errors period. I would only believe there is a problem with the ISO if someone tried Taiyo Yuden's ( or equal ), burnt @ 4X, with a new clean burner, and it didn't work....other than that its a crap shoot...

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Well, one person used Memorex discs which aren't cheap no-name media and still had a problem on his HD-DVD player so I think it's something with the players. I'm going to try the DVD in my HD-XA2 tonight and see if I encounter the same issues. It worked fine on my Oppo upconverting player, but then again that machine accepts every disc I throw at it so that shouldn't come as a surprise. By the way, Ady, it was the NTSC version the people were having problems with.

Actually, as I recall, the Memorex are notoriously bad media. I've heard reasonable things about most of the Fuji's. Keep in mind most labels aren't actually making their own discs; they're all sourcing them from a handful of factories.

Have you set your HD-DVD players to 24fps output? I just did a search on the model numbers of the players mentioned and there seems to be a problem with those players playing certain DVD's if it is set to 24fps output. try setting the output to 1080/60 and see if that works. i also saw some threads that mentioned the A30 & A20 have some audio issues that can cause some DVD's and HD-DVDs to freeze during playback. This does sound like the problem you are having

I am actually wondering if hempler is playing the NTSC version as well.

I have the NTSC version. Basically, when it is playing, the timing counter stops counting, then the disc freezes about 5-10 seconds later.

There is a lag in the transition from the Adywan logo to the main title screen of the menu.

On the main menu title, it freezes right after "A NEW HOPE REVISITED" appears, and doesn't transition to the menu screen. From there, none of the menu transitions advance correctly. They all freeze, and I have to scan forward to get it to move.

When playing the movie, it runs fine until 2min, 13sec and the freezes. If I scan forward a little, the movie actually jumps back a few seconds and then starts playing. It will play for anywhere between 10 seconds and 1 minute, and then freezes again.

The sign that it is going to freeze is the time stops running forward. I haven't had the chance to see what it is doing with the bitrate, and if that has anything to do with it. Honestly not sure how I would be able to tell, but I am happy to collect as much data as possible to let you know.

Just to make sure, I have updated the firmware and it still happens, so that's not the problem.

Any other info I can provide, please let me know.

Memorex used to be considered generally bad media, but they've been producing good stuff in the last few years.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Just finished watching the PAL version..... It's amazing, the trivia subs are nicely done and reveal a lot of small but neat changes.

I've burned a ton of discs with Memorex and never had a problem with their DVD-R blank media.

This does sound like the problem that was mentioned in one of the threads i found. Can you check to see if your player is set to 1080p/24 (or whatever resolution you have it to) if it is set to 24fps playback can you set it to 1080p(or the res you output to your tv)/60 and see if it plays then

I hadn't seen that option, but will definitely try it out.

Vbangle, I understand some people have issues with the quality of discs, but I have not had any issues with any other burns of fan edits (or any other ISOs) prior to now. For a great project like this, I made sure to use the best media available.

Ady, I'll let you know if the output setting change works! Thanks for doing such great work!

Ady,

I am having trouble playing the NTSC version even on my Dell Laptop. If I try to do select scene and pick let's say the Cantina, it just freezes.

The same thing happens if I play the movie and try to fast forward...It doesn't get to the cantina...

I just wanted you to know so that you don't think that it is just the DVD players that are giving trouble...it is even the laptop.

Now that's weird. i just burned the iso image file i posted and tested the disc on my pc and the wife's laptop and it played without any problems. what software are you burning the image with and what software are you using to watch the dvd on the laptop? can you mount the original iso image file using daemontools or something like that on your laptop and see if it plays then. that way it will rule out a bad burn it it again doesn't play
