Adywan,

I just got done watching the NTSC DVD and I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor when it was done. I've been following the progress of this edit since the beginning and all I can say is that it was more than worth the wait. It's the best thing to happen to Star Wars since............well, probably since the release of Star Wars!!! I purposely avoided watching the xvid because I wanted to enjoy the DVD version on my home theater and I'm glad I did because the picture and sound quality was absolutely top-notch. As for the edit itself, what you did with the Vader/Obi-Wan duel and the final battle is more than I could have ever imagined. You took those scenes to a whole new level and I was literally giddy watching what you've done. If I had one minor quibble(and I emphasize the word MINOR) it's that the interior of the Death Star seemed very desaturated almost looked like something from a black and white movie. I realize this was all part of the color correction process and that it was discussed earlier in the thread, but it did stand out a little bit and I found myself somewhat distracted by the lack of color. Aside from that, however, everything was perfect and I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you put into this edit. I can honestly say that anytime I want to watch Star Wars this is the version I will pick and I think that's the highest compliment anyone could pay to you. Great job, man!!!

I guess I cannot disagree about it being easy to FIND things on torrents, but actually getting them is a whole different matter. I mean, how many dead torrents are there out there? Sure with usenet eventually the files get too old to retrieve and need to be upped again, but at least when they are recent they are easily obtainable. I would even be willing to bet that on avergae files on usenet have a longer shelf life than torrents do. Seems torrents die pretty quick.

Has anyone tried watching it on an HD-DVD player?

It locks up in the menus during the transitions and at 0:02:13 of the movie....once it locks up the first time it then locks up every few seconds.....scan forward a little and then it locks up again.

I have tried turning off all of the upconversion and such but no luck.

I have an HD-A30, HD-A20, & an HD-A2.

The only one it works on is the A2.......and also the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and the regualr Upconvert DVD player my Son uses. I like to test on many machines bucause I give copies to friends and like to tell what it will work on.

I watched(PS3) with the changes subtitle on.....very nice Ady

Very impressed again

I wish it would play on the HD-DVD player though....the picture looked superb in 1080p/24. On the PS3 I got 1080p/60 and of course did not complain

Have a good night all and enjoy this wonderful piece of work.......

Oh....the 3D jaba thing was cool.....it took me forever to find some old glasses......I found a pair from the past (JAWS 3 in 3D)

I have an XA2, but I didn't watch it on that particular machine tonight. I watched it on my Oppo regular upconverting DVD player. I'll check it on the XA2 tomorrow night and see how it works for me. By the way, what type of blank media did you use? Some brands of blank discs don't work well on HD-DVD players(in my experience at least) and also it won't work well if you burned to a DVD+R instead of a DVD-R.

Adywan,

Parts 27-33 did not upload well and are missing parts on the NTSC disc. Just a heads up. They PAR repair fine but you may want to reupload those rar parts.

I have the Toshiba HD-A3 and I am getting the same problem...

It looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, though!

Once again, outstanding work Ady! I will be watching the disc this weekend with some friends, but had a chance to skim some of it this evening. Thanks for finding a suitable recording of the "Stand-by" line for the ending. It sounds great now!

For those having problems getting the incomplete files, I had to manually select each part after they downloaded, right click, and select "assemble incomplete files" to have them show up in my download directory. Then the par repair worked smoothly. I use Newsbin as my reader; this is probably a different process for other readers.

Thanks again Ady!

Man, I had to wait till the wee hours of the morning to start downloading this off of news groups. I tried earlier this evening and my DL speeds were crap, something like 32k a sec. My speeds after hours are alot better, more like 150k a sec. Anyway, I just started the download so I hope to have it finnished in a day I hope.

I'm actually surprised there isn't more traffic in this thread now that the DVDs are being released. This place went crazy when Ady put out the xvid version. Maybe it's just taking time for everyone to get the DVD before they start posting their thoughts about it.

Yeah, I'm pretty shure thats the case. This release is taling alot more time due to it's size. The DVD-9 will be the same. I originally wanted to wait till the DVD-9, but since thats a couple of months away I just cant resist seeing what the quality of the DVD-5 is like.

It'll take adywan a bit to load up the PAL one, but as soon as he does it'll be known here. If some of you will stop posting so many "Where's such-and-such DVD-X version? Torrent/RS/newsgroup please!" -type posts it'll be easier to find it since you won't have to shift through 100 of those posts to find the one where adywan says "I've placed such-and-such DVD-X version at THIS LOCATION."

google isn't much help since all that's up there is the xvid (and the NZB for the broken pal).

I think it could be that most people weren't expecting the dvd-5 for another week or so. Other than regulars to this thread checking it every hour...

If someone does know a torrent link, please PM me!

Speaking of PM's, if someone could PM me the boone rapidshare link, that would be amazing. I just need to grab, like, TWO complete rars to fix my usenet download! ARGH!

Someone should update Fanedit.org and/or Fanedits.com with links or info about the DVD-5.

Memorex 16X DVD-R - I have been using these in the past and not had any problems with them......I do agree those players are very picking on the blank media. Do you have a recommendation of what has consistently worked for you? I usually just buy what is available but these players are just too picky......maybe Sony blank media would work best

Is it really better quality to burn DVD at a slower pace like 1x with more than one encoding pass?
I am waiting for a torrent.

You won't have to do any encoding, Adywan's done that already. As for the burning speed, my understanding is that the slower speed doesn't affect image or sound quality so much as it improves compatibility with various DVD players. I could be mistaken about that.
