I made an edit like this for some friends and my Mom who only wanted to start watching this season. I kept most of the on island scenes {but with lots of trims}, and I also cut most of the back stories out for the cast members that would be gone by season 4 as well as the extra go no place bits for cast that are still with us. Much of the back story footage that was redundant was cut. The edit worked out very well in fact, and the story arc moved along at a much faster pace. All I had to do was keep in mind and try to remember all the story references that would crop up and come back into play later on. At times I would take back story elements from 3 or 4 episodes on the same character and link them together to move that character's history along much faster for the new viewer.
Also I started the project with all the crash events shown in the first 3 seasons edited together in a chronological order {including Niki and Palo from season three}, as well as the tail section stuff. So you would see the tail section events {from season two} along side the regular cast's events {from season one} side by side. Also, I put in the Hanso foundation films from the net as well as stuff from the bonus DVD's in the mix. It was a two week fast edit job, but was a lot of fun to do for them. I'm thinking of re-doing this project in high quality and posting it.

The Seasons turned out to be about 5 hours long each.
