This could possibly become the most talked about fan cut ever. Seriously. Again, stunning stuff. Makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with Lucas (yet again)

Second posting! hehehe. Your insight into why Lucas and Co. fail to see these things dawned on me this morning: they don't need to put as much effort in restoring and fixing this as Adywan is for a simple reason: it costs a lot of money to pay people to do what Ady is doing out of love, and why would they spend money on a "sure-fire" hit? they know everyone will buy anything they put out just because it's Star Wars, to spend more money fixing it is not necessary, the only way they will change their "Empire's"-ways is if we, the fans, don't buy any more DVD's

This is my first post, and I just wanted to say that Ady's work is incredible!

I was wondering though - hypothetically, of course - If George Lucas sees Ady's version, and decides to use the same changes for the Hi-def release, not mentioning Ady's version as an influence, would that be ripping off Ady in a sense?

Now a question about the xvid - is my copy the only copy where the vocals are out of synch in the Alderaan explosion scene? I think I've read most of the posts following the release of the xvid, and I didn't notice any comments on that. Maybe it's a PAL thing? Yet it's fine through the rest of the movie. I'm confused. Anyway, I'm sure it won't matter when the DVD comes out.

MattMahdi, sarcasm is a difficult thing to do on the internet, but at least I was amused.

Indeed.

Was MattMahdi trying to be sarcastic? If he was I can appreciate that, but his post really doesn't give any hints to joking. A few smileys or a wink might have helped.

Eh? Your post is not related to this thread whatsoever. Please use the technical help forum for such questions in the future.

I always figured on having the PAL version first (DVD-5) and doing my own conversion until I could get my hands on the DVD-9 NTSC version which I had assumed would be quite some time away. It would appear that most of the versions will come out quite near to each other, so this project would probably be pointless. Regardless, my thoughts were that since Ady has been working in PAL land and converting over to NTSC (and vice versa) for his project, I may find the help needed here.

O.T. or No T., baby!

Well the drive came today, reinstalled a fresh copy of windows and my programs and mpeg rendering is now back to normal. So tonight and tomorrow i will be rendering all the mpeg files needed for the DVD-5 versions. I now have a detailed list of what will be on the DVD-5 versions:

16:9 anamorphic
5.1 Dolby digital mix
English subtitles
Spanish subtitles
French subtitles
Dutch subtitles
Deleted Scene - Jabba the Hutt
Deleted Scene - Jabba the Hutt in 3D
Episode IV Revisited first look trailer
1st official trailer
Final Trailer
Sneak peak at Episode V Revisited
Revisited Changes & Fixes Trivia subtitle track
Easter Egg
Full Motion Menus

The Pal DVD will be the first version available with the NTSC following within a few days. I'm just waiting for the Dutch subs to be sent to me ( which should be completed by Thursday) so at the Weekend the PAL version will be here.

On another note, i have been recently receiving both Email & PMs from various people, most of whom i have no clue who the hell they are, asking for copies of the DVD-9 but saying that they can't join in the PIF chain because they don't have a dual layer burner but offering to put some money into my account towards the next edit. Some have even asked that i send them a copy with full cover artwork, boxed with printed label and personally signed by me. Some offers have actually been the same as it would cost to buy a dual layer burner plus discs so have proven to me that they think that they can pay me for a copy. I'm afraid this will NOT be happening. I will be sending out discs in order to start the PIF chain and a few to other members that have helped with the edit ( not financially). It will also be available through usenet and torrents. You can get it from there if you can't be part of the chain. So please stop asking and stop the money offers. I will not reply to any of them

I have also received a few very fake cease & desist letters ( come on guys. using a free email account. how thick do you think i am) and also a lot of threatening hate mail in the past few days. i guess i have rattled a few cages.

Wow, are you sure you can fit all of that on a DVD5 without compression? I dont' know how much subtitles take up, but that's a lot.

Is it next weekend yet?!?

Though it won't make too much difference to me since I probably won't be able to download it until next Tues or Weds anyway.

Still, it's nice to know that it is almost here!

Subtitle tracks don't take up much space at all, essentially they are just text files. I like that this has such a wide range of subtitles. Something most fanedits and preservations sorely lack. I think the trailers are pretty short, and the Jabba scene isn't too long and would have been part of the movie anyway had it not been cliped, so they shouldn't suck away too much of the main feature's overall quality.

adywan, I also like that you have the Changes & Fixes Trivia subtitle track. That will be a great bonus.

Sorry to hear you are getting so much crap from people. Fake cease and desist orders? Some people have way too much time on their hands. I suppose the fact that your edit has attracted this much attention ought to be taken as a pretty big compliment.

I am guessing the deleted Jar Jar and Bail Alderaanian (sp?) death scene will be on the DVD-9?

It sucks that there are so many moochers lurking on this site. You guys really need to be contributing to things around here before asking for a free hand out.

Hate mail? IMPOSSIBLE! Nobody could hate this! Can't wait to download this! And is that "Jabba the Hutt in 3D" different at all from the other "Jabba the Hutt" scene?

Subtitles take up very little if anything on the disc at all. At worst from the top of my head about 500k to 1 meg total.

I personally would love to read some of the hate mail and fake C&D letters myself. For laughs of course.

Well we can't have people selling edits, now can we?

I'm sure all these grateful folks will seed, don't worry...

I would like to read this hate mail also. As far as the dvd 5 is concerned, I just don't know if I want to DL that one. I'm really waiting for the dvd 9.

Ady, have you received any chain letters saying that if you don't forward it to at least 9 people in the next 30 minutes, you will have bad luck in editing forever?

The week has just started and I am wishing it was the weekend already...lol...

Thanks Ady for the update. Don't worry about the haters, they are just jealous.

Well that's just great... here I was resolute that I'd be happy with the DIVX copy until the DVD-9 came out, and then Ady has to go and make the DVD-5 so irresistably appealing

Looking forward to seeing your second round efforts on this edit Adywan! And why on earth would people go to the trouble of sending fake cease & desist orders? I can't even fathom what their motives would be.

Edit:
Tech-related question here: would there be any downside to compressing the DVD-9 onto a single layer disc for playback? I ask because once the dual-layerd version's made available, I was wondering whether it was worth hanging onto the DVD-5, or if simply compressing the DVD-9 would give me equal quality.

for the tech related question, ...you can get decent results with CCE and DVD-Rebuild doing a many pass shrink. minimum 3 passes, 5 better, up to 9 or 10 very nice. BUT if there is a lot on the DVD9, it may be noticeable no matter what
