There must be some way to insert that Death Star into the end...

With all do respect, I cant believe you want the death star in ESB. There is absolutly no reason for a death star to be shown anywhere in ESB, and it would not play off very well at all visually. Also, the audience allreadys knows one was being built during the events of ESB as told through ROTJ, and copying or inserting events from ROTS would not do justice to ESB at all.

Hello! first time posting! I stumbled upon this while looking to see if the rumours are true: that there's a fan edit that it's truer to the Star Wars mythos than the Lucasfilm DVD's and I can only say: it's true, never watching the "official" ep 4 again....Adywan you have done things I had only imagined before and to see them now in crystal clear format it's great, I was so happy to see we can make suggestions this time.....if I may give my opinion here

I like that you will try to make the Emperor hologram look closer to how he looked in ROTJ, but I still maintain that the best and simplest thing to do is simply to darken the hologram so that most of his face is not visable.

Think of the scene in ROTJ when Palpatine lands in the hangar bay. As he and Vader walks and talks, only his mouth, chin and the lower part of his left cheek is visible. That's how I think it should be in ESB as well.

I agree with Chrille here, make the hologram scarier, darker, and more similar to the final Emperor. Also an idea I toyed around in my mind and want to share is that we hardly see Coruscant in the OT so what if the conversation with Vader could go like this: when Vader talks to the hologram it's onboard the SD, but at the beginning of the conversation after he says "what is thy bidding..." the camera goes to Coruscant and we see from behind (to avoid spoiling the ROTJ revelation) the Emperor talking to a Vader hologram answering the greeting, and so the conversation goes back and forth in the two places....I dunno if that's feasable but it's fun to think about it and it would be cooler if it could be seen.

Besides that just adding more imperial troops and AT-AT's at the Hoth attack and MAYBE more ships in space when the rebel base is evacuating....

Some guys have mentioned the errors in cloud city windows, I think that should be fixed too, like in ANH, small subtle fixes that our friends at LFL don't have a sharp eye to catch! hehe. Still in the end Adywan it's your edit, and I know it will look great.

Wow Ady, are you a machine? you don't need to sleep like the rest of us? lol, I will be looking forward to this edit, ESB is my favorite film ever, I'll love to see what you can do to improve it.

Nice trailer, the emperor hologram looks better, Are you planning on restoring Vader and Palpy's conversation to match the original one or are you keeping the new one from 2004?
I wish I had a Kryptonite cross, because then you could keep both Dracula AND Superman away.

Since ultimately Ady's edits have the goal of harmonizing I-VI, wouldn't the Emperor's appearance in ROTJ therefore NOT be a revelation? So there would not have to be any concern for "spoiling" anything in the next film. With that said, the idea would still work better (and be easier to pull off) if the view was from behind.

Well, the reason I tried the ROTS clip was that someone (I forget who) suggested that it's not really necessary in ROTS...it's a nice image to leave the audience with and it's fun for us fans...but not really necessary. As Lucas might say: “We know where he ends up.”
It also brings up the question of how long it takes to build a death star. 20 years? then between ESB and ROTJ maybe 2 years? Why?

Erikstormtrooper:
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, the clip would have to be reworked a bit...Tarkin erased and all of that...

AuggieBenDoggie:
No, we as the audience did NOT know a second death star was being built during ESB. A lot of people here on the boards thought that the second death star kind of came out of nowhere in ROTJ. A cheap trick if you will. A rehash. Anyway...that was where the idea came from...

You are right about not spoiling the revelation of his presence but maybe the revelation of his appearance, he looks older and more decrepit in RoTJ.....anyway what do you guys think of the idea?

I could go either way on that. It does sound like a cool idea to se Coruscant (as long as Palpatine is shown from the back only) and would tie it with the PT more. As long as it also doesn't have too much of a ROTS feel to it, it could really work in the context of the movie.

On the other hand, I feel a bit apprehensive about showing Palpatine in the flesh before ROTJ. I'm so used to the gradual revelation: mentioned in ANH, seen as a hologram in ESB, and finally revealed in person in ROTJ. But maybe I'm just being nostalgic and should look more objectively on this? Very possibly.

I don't know if he looks older and more decrepit, but he looks more puffy in ROTS.

Apparantly Ian gained some weight mainly between AotC and ROTS. And it doesn't really matter that he looks different in ROTS. We don't se him again for nearly 25 years. The ESB hologram is problematic though. Some work can be done on it, but I imagine that getting to look like he does in ROTJ is very difficult. That's why I mentioned that he could be "hidden" with only parts of his face visible. I'm no fx artist by any means, but it sounds like that would be less work for ady (forgive me if this is an incorrect statement) and would also work to give it scary feel and mysterious feel as well as to preserve the "face reveal" to ROTJ. Of course in light with the PT, it would be more of a re-introduction. But that works fine too IMO.

Lucas changed some things way before 97, like Beru's voice and apparantly some other things as well I've heard. It would have been nice if he re-did the hologram already back in 1983 so that he could have looked exactly the same. But nothing can be done about that now anyway. Just a bit of a shame, is all.

I never said we knew a second death star was being built IN ESB . I said we knew one was being built from the events told in ROTJ, and while I agree that it never came out of nowhere it was however revealed to the audience out of nowhere. Basically telling the audience, guess what we we working on during the events of ESB. It serves as a secret plot device, revealed in the last act. It was how ROTJ as written if you step back and think about it.

One last thing. There will be no PT music added to ESB.

Agreed, ady.

But what about the Emperor's Theme from ROTJ? I think a subtle rendition would be just perfect for the hologram scene, give it an eerie (sp?) feel. It's kinda smiliar to the subtle musical backdrop to the conference scene in ANH that you added.

I agree with this. It would be a nice tie in with ROTJ and the prequels, where it appears in about all of Palp's hologram transmissions. Of course, subtle is the key for this. Just to add for ambiance with out blasting it out.

I agree 100%, the theme could add some connotation to the character, again the key is subtle.

That presumes, doesn't it, that Adywan "intends" for the audience to watch it in numerical order (1-6) rather than production order (4-6, 1-3)?

If there is extra time available, could the walker jerky movement be smoothed?
Author
Time
That jerky movement is due to stop motion. It's not really that jerky, although I also favour smoothing it out. I actually think the bluish scenes on Hoth are (somewhat) okay, but I think the shots will look better with some of the bluish tones removed.
Author
Time
Personally I thought the jerky motion was fine, because these were "robots" and I expected their movements to be less smooth than biological creatures, but maybe that's just me... there's a few little things by the ground that give-away that they are fake though if you're looking closely in a few shots, which could be painted out.

Obi-Wan says to Luke "there you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi master who instructed me"

I light of the PT, this sounds kinda weird. Qui-Gon was his main master, and in any case Obi-Wan was trained by several Jedi not just one as this statement suggests.

A suggestion has been made to change this to: "there you will learn from Yoda, a Jedi master who instructed me". I must say that I agree. It sounds like a simple way to solve a plot error with ease.

Hm. You're right. I equated harmonization to "intended viewing order being 1-6". Quite honestly, any rational person would suggest 4-6, then 1-3 if he were recommending the films to someone who had never seen any. Otherwise "No, Luke. I am your father" is rather anti-climactic.

Maybe it's because Yoda trains all younglings at the beginning and Obi-Wan wanted Luke to feel at ease with The Master, since if he instructed Obi he must be pretty good himself....it doesn't break continuity it's just putting up front a part of the fact.

Obi-Wan saying the "Jedi Master who instructed me" was a fact, it does not need to be changed, even if He was instructed my more than Just Yoda, Yoda was the only one known alive.
Author
Time
"The jedi master" Suggests that Yoda was the only person who taught him. That would be a lie, regardless of Qui-Gon being dead.

"A Jedi" suggests that Yoda was one of the Jedi that taught him.

It's such an easy thing to fix. Which IMO it should. It's not like I'm gonna lose sleep over it, but Obi-Wan tells enough white lies to Luke in ANH. No need to add more.

Bull%*&# a person does not have to state anything like that to be considered truthful. It's like me saying that Mcdonald's was the restaurant I ate at on Friday. When I also ate at Hardee's the later part of that same day without stating so. It was vague enough and non specific. If Kenobi has said the "Only" you'd have much more of a case for bad continuity.

Or "Mr Jordan was the English teacher who taught me in High School." He wasn't the only one, but I would be correct in saying it that way. Especially, due to the fact that I regard him as one of the best ones.
Author

of course Ben can be referring to the training that he had for him in his solitude for about 20 years. So Yoda was the a Jedi Master who instructed Ben.

Alright , alright. I concede defeat. I se I'm outnumbered here. I guess it doesn't matter too much anyway.

This whole thing really only hit me when I was having a star wars marathon with a few casual star wars fans (meaning those that don't browse star wars boards like us). When that scene came up and Obi-Wan said this line, they just laughed a little and said "uh... no".

But I guess this edit is mostly for die hard fans who care enough to post on this board, so then it doesn't matter, I guess.

Edit: Just for clarity, Sevb32, maybe it's because english is not my native languish, but if you had said "the english teacher" I would have assumed that it was your only english teacher in high school. But again, maybe that's just me.

I'm gonna have to stick with Chrille on this one. As a bonafide grammar Nazi, I think changing it to "a Jedi Master" is preferable, if it can be done.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
