I don't understand why anyone would tamper with the original trilogy to make it better fit the prequals, when it should clearly be the other way round.

You don't need to show and explain everything to the audience. Dream sequences are the paramount of cheese and in Empire it would be redundant since Luke explains wait he sees. Part of what made the Force so cool in the OT was it was mysterious.
