Ady, I wish I could offer some help regarding the encoding problems you're having. Unfortunately, I'm a total moron when it comes to such things. Just know that I'm wishing you well and hope you're able to get it working.

* * *

As for those of you asking about how to get this edit...

I see Chrille and Kurgan beat me to the punch while I was typing up this insanely long answer... oh well. As has been indicated, everything you need to know about getting this edit can be found on the preceding pages of this thread. That being said, I suppose 197 pages is a lot to read through, so for those who are too lazy and/or inept to do so, here’s a quick “how to” guide:

To obtain this edit via torrent:

1) Go to a site such as bittornado.com or utorrent.com and download the software needed to grab torrents (there are others, but these two are the ones I’m most aware of).

2) Once the software is installed, go to this site (which Molly posted back on page 153 of this thread), and click on the entry with the title "Star Wars Revisited-Adywan-XviD."

3) Click "Download This Torrent" at the top of the page, and save the file "Star_Wars_Revisited-Adywan-XviD.torrent" to your hard drive.

4) Double click on the file once it's downloaded, and your torrent software should launch. Simply choose a folder/destination for the file, click OK, and you're off to the races.

5) Once your torrent is fully downloaded, it is asked that you remain online at least until your upload ratio is equal to what you downloaded (i.e., if you downloaded 1.66 GB, you should remain online until you’ve uploaded 1.66 GB – this is what is known as “seeding” a file)

To obtain this edit via news groups:

1) Go to a news group site such as giganews.com or usenet.com (I haven’t used news groups before, but from what I understand, unless there’s a free trial period, you’ll have to buy at least one month’s worth of service, which could cost anywhere from $5 to $25).

2) From here, having never used news groups, I’m not sure what you do… I think you can search for the file in question, download it in multiple parts, then unpack the files with a program such as winRAR. It would be best to ask another forum member what exactly to do if you choose to go this route.

To obtain this edit via rapidshare:

1) Post a request in the thread asking for a forum member to PM (private message) you a link to the appropriate rapidshare link. (Note: make sure your “Allow Private Message” option is set to “ON” in your profile).

2) From here, simply follow the link provided and begin downloading the file (not having used rapidshare for this edit, I’m not sure if the file will come as a single .avi file or in multiple parts such as with news groups)

To obtain this edit via PIF:

If all else fails, those of you who are not tech-savvy can put your name down to become part of a PIF (Pay It Forward) chain. In doing this, you will eventually be mailed a hard copy of the file on DVD, at which point you are expected to burn a minimum of three more copies yourself and mail them off to the next people in the chain.

I hope this helps those of you having difficulty obtaining this edit. I wish I could have provided more info on the news groups and rapidshare options, but as I said, I haven’t used either one yet, so the only one I’m really familiar with is the torrent method. Although slower than newsgroups, it is free.

Lastly, once you’ve downloaded the .avi, you can convert it to DVD format for playback on your DVD player using such programs as WinAVI or avi2dvd.

Good luck.

Adywan, have you tried shutting down the computer, restarting it, and then encoding the file again?

(I know, I'm an idiot. Please hit me)

Hi Ady

I love your menus, they look really ace!

I still need to complete the cover that I'm making, and I can't wait to see your official one

Sorry to bother you, but will there be an option to view the movie in a widescreen format like the official DVD releases as well as in full screen too - if not then its ok, I was just wondering (And I don't know if you've already answered this, but do you have a list of special features, preferably the DVD 9, at hand?) Thanks.

Sorry again

Widescreen or fullscreen?

Ady only made a widescreen version of Star Wars Revisited. The closest that you will get to a fullscreen version is pressing the zoom button on your DVD player.

Wow.

Okay, I have just seen it. I don't know what to say . I read all kinds of comments about your edit, and while I am critical, I seriously couldn't be bothered by the 'mistakes' some people listed here. The revealing of the Death Star looked great to me. The additional TIE fighters added to the end battle was a fantastic move. I didn't like Battle of the Heroes added to the duel when you showed the test clip, but now, remixed and re-edited, I couldn't think of being it another way. The lightsabers look great, vibrant and consistent, as they should've been. The Death Star looked dull and gray again (I hope Hoth will look white again, when you are revisiting Empire).
Actually, I could go on and on about it, but most of it has been adressed anyway (and that shows that I'm not the only one who thinks that way about the changes).
And I even found George Lucas (great to put him in) and the battle droid .
The DVD-9 DL with bonus material probably will replace the 2004 dvds as my favorites .

Some questions, though.
The blue hue when the Falcon travels in lightspeed, was that the original 2004 dvd look? Nothing was added to that? It looks way too blue.
Whatever happened to the scene you were going to add to the end? The additional scene with Darth Vader in his shuttle. I would have loved to see that. And why did you did not alter Obi-Wan's line to 'I wanted you to have this, when you were old enough?' Just curious.

I know you're not even close to beginning on them, but I was really curious about this. What are you planning to change to the prequels? They need a lot of improvement. I thought I read something about it, but I couldn't remember exactly.

I have said it already, but I think you have done an incredible job. Thanks .

That's intentional. Since the hyperspace effect is blue, the rationale is that the cockpit would reflect the colors outside.

Thanks everyone for your help, I am downloading it now. Should be ready to view tomorrow sometime. What is the difference in quality in the xvid and the DVD that is planned?

I knew it was intentional, but I was just wondering if it was the unaltered 2004 version (which already has a blue hue over it), or there was additional blue added.

There was much more blue added.

Any updates, Adywan? It's been pretty quiet from your end since the bad encoding news the other day. Hope you've made some progress and that things are working out.

Yikes! I leave a couple days and hell breaks loose on Ady's computer! I can't think of anything to say that others haven't, but I'll just say that I hope this situation is resolved quickly. Even so, I too would gladly wait till the 31st anniversary of SW to see this DVD on my doorstep.

May the Force be with you, Ady.

Ady, sorry to hear of the PC trouble; I hope it all resolves as quickly and easily as possible. I'd be glad to make a contribution if that would help. Do you do PayPal?

I signed on tonight after just having finished watching your edit (yeah, I know, Johnny-come-lately), and, in summary, all I can really say is "Thank you for giving back Star Wars to us OT fans and then some!" The extended Death Star TIE Fighter scramble was jaw-dropping and really mended the attack sequence together with the "fly-around" of the TIE squandron to parallel the one done by Lucas of the X-wings (which I never really was okay with until your addition). Also, the expressions of the various cantina aliens which you added are amazing and so seemless!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Watching your edit, I felt so much more like the kid I was when I saw the OT originally!

Newbie here!

I want to echo the sentiment of darkhelmet.

I'm a member of the Middle Georgia Star Wars Fan Club - The MACON CLONES (USA) and several of our members got together this weekend for a "big screen" viewing of this edit. Everyone of us were blown away. The discussion lasted well into the wee hours of the morning and every bit of it was complimentary. We plan on doing it again with even more people.

Great job and thanks.

Believe me dude, if it was there would be hundreds of posts about it. See any yet? Nope, me neither.

Ady just had some major computer setbacks. It might be a while yet. It'll be worth the wait.

In answer to your question: the XVID AVI is the only release available currently.

Ah man sorry to hear that you're having issues Ady.

That will have to wait until the end of the month when we get paid though. hopefully it won't have to come to that.

To everyone that kindly PM'd me recently then i'm sorry but i haven't had a chance to reply as yet because of everything that is going on here, but i will reply as soon as possible.

Do a repair install, it simply replaces all of the windows related files with the defaults from the install. You get to keep your files, programs, etc. However you will need to re-activate after installation. If you need any help I can walk you through the process.

Wait so what is Ady's computer problem actually stopping him from doing... the initial (post-fixes) PAL DVD-5 encoding?

Yes, I believe so. The scary thing is that he hasn't posted in the last couple days. Hope everything is going well on his end.
