Yes, i used the original h.264 , converted it to lossless avi then downscaled it using virtualdubmod and downscaled to DVD res using the Lanczoz3 scaler. I did a comparison between the WMV & h.264 and i did notice that the h.264 version was very slightly sharper.
The reason why i decided to drop my original plans to convert the HD h.264 to DVD and use the laserdisc audio was because, although when converted to lossless avi the difference between the DVD and downconverted HD source was really noticeable, it became less so when converted to mpeg2. So i felt that it just wasn't worth the effort.
