Wookie Groomer - I salute you.

Downloaded this from usenet the other day and burnt it last night, I'd found this forum yesterday by searching for you/addicted to star wars and so thought I'd at least have a look at the disc before commenting. Watched it last night (well, 20 mins or so of various chapters) and I am really impressed. Fantastic bit of work and my friends and I will be watching it next week after we get back from Celebration Europe.

Great work, I look forward to getting the HD version when its finished uploading.

Absolutely fantastic, even if it does make my eyes a little funny.

What is the best program for burning this DVD? I used CloneDVD on the first version and it worked fine. For some reason I cant seem to burn a working copy of the second version. May I please get some input from the community? Thanks for your help.

Did you choose a layer break point?
IIRC, WG didn't designate one in his .IFO file

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

(My NG dl is a little slow just getting to review the 1080P sample)

There's some minor playback errors at the bottom edge, not sure if it's my system (G5, (2) 2.66 GHz) not being able to keep up. Most noticable in the Rancor fight sequence, some choppy, blocky grey areas appear intermittenly on fast moving objects, similar things happen on the RotS side but less often. Also there seems to be one row of pixels above the RotS which don't match. Was this version created overlaying onto the old version?

THE DEATH STAR 5.1 - [English] Nice name. Did any different audio leveling happen between the V1 and the 1080P? I remember Empire being more ever present then any of the other audios.

The Isolated Music Score 2.0 - [English] does the track just flip between scores throughout?

[Someone (GoodMusician?) on this forum is compiling, in high quality, the complete scores for the prequels. Anyone remember the thread title?]

WG:AtSW should be promoted as the release which will make you buy an HDTV!

fantastic, thanks for taking the movie viewing to the next level.

Stopped they must be, on this all depends. Only a fully trained Jedi Knight with the Force as his ally will conquer Vader and his Emperor.

This is so awesome! I can't wait to get my media center PC built.

I have a question about the isolated soundtrack though. What order are the songs in? It seems to be random.

I just posted the official case covers for Addicted to Star Wars DVD and 720p MKV, plus cover art for V.2 of the split screen series and the 1080P DVD9's of Episodes IV,V,IV. All can be found in the newsgroup.

Wookiee Groomer, I am impressed. I downloaded the three split screen films over the last week, and so for a few days my students have been coming in each morning and been utterly amazed at parallel ANH / TESB / RotJ. Fun to watch their reactions!

As I read about "Addicted to Star Wars," and my wife would certainly put me forward as qualified, I'm hoping that it gets some wider distribution. Everything I have so far is thanks to either email contacts or RapidShare --- aside from that poor copy of the Holiday Special, via eBay, with its neat tag line of "Every saga has a bastard son."

Since this discussion trailed off a few months ago, I'm hoping to hear a) if the project was distributed more widely and b) if there are worthwhile web-based newsgroup subscription services (_especially_ if this is still available on the newsgroups).

I'm starting to recognize many names after too much time browsing, and I'm impressed at the level of work I've seen. (And ThrowgnCpr --- I'm re-downloading your "A Flash of Spoofs" after foolishly lending my copy to a friend _before_ I made a copy of the disc image!)

well, MattMahdi, I hope you enjoy the Flash of Spoofs projects. It was a lot of fun for me. And yes, I really hope wookiegroomers Addicted to Star Wars gets some wider distribution. I would love to get a copy of this, and cam willing to help in any way I can

Well, I finally managed to get an account through GigaNews. I've downloaded all the headers. And, unfortunately, I'm just a little bit too late. The ~20gb version of "Addicted to Star Wars" is listed as incomplete, and no DVD version is listed at all (this being with a search on the word "addict").

And of the DVDs of the three split-screen second editions, only Empire remains and it's also incomplete.

Is there anyone on this thread who would be willing to re-release the DVD of "Addicted," and possibly also the split-screens 2.0, to alt.binaries.starwars?

I'd love to see them, and would immediately pass the discs on to ThrowgnCpr for RapidShare distribution.

Thanks very much,

Have you downloaded the headers from a.b.starwars? The 1080p version was only posted on the 1st of this month so it is still available through giganews ( i know because i use giganews and it has a 200 day retention). Only 2 of the files are being reported as incomplete. Just download them and then use the par2 files to fix the incomplete files.

Thanks, Adywan. I've been looking at _size_ instead of _date_.

Based on your recommendation, I'll give it a try.

(Was seriously hesitant because of my unfortunate results last week downloading the split screen DVD of Empire; even with the PARs, it ended up being ever so slightly short of what it needed to be. Sadness.)

However, for portability, is there any chance of seeing the DVD version again?

I'm seriously underpowered for the 1080p files, and will be trying to convert to a DVD anyway. I think that Wookie Groomer mentioned it back in March?

As someone who hasn't touched the newsgroups in a few years ... fifteen or so ... it's certainly interesting to see how things have changed. The very idea of a graphical interface to usenet just seems odd to someone who was once a code monkey.

I'm not sure what I think, but I've got four weeks left with Giganews to make up my mind. Overall the sense of transience of data doesn't seem any different. Usenet was and is a terrific resource --- but one on which one must stay nearly current.

That's probably why ThrowgnCpr and I are interested in seeing the DVDs on RapidShare: direct access, and a change in the status of the data from ephemeral to slightly more solid. As communities such as fanedit.org grow, that seems to be the direction they're heading.

Of course, that said, I've never seen a download go as smoothly as did the RotJ 10p splitscreen through NewsBin. Clean, smooth, and painless. Of course, once I had it, I discovered how pathetically underpowered I am to view it!

Which means, for right now, I'll stick with DVDs. If they are recirculated I'll be grateful. And, if not, I may keep a toe in the water occasionally to see what does come.

This looks fantastic!!!!!!

I may have to delve back in to the world of newgroups

(after 10 years) if it doesn't appear on a torrent site soon. :)
