Uh oh... Just keep in mind the lasting significance of whatever slam you're going to put against this guy in the credits.

Can't we just forgive and forget?

The list of changes sounds good, best of luck!

Quoting:

Ok, i've tweaked a few things in the past couple of days but i will be doing no more work on this edit. The majority of fans like what i have done and that is all that matters to me. I want to put this edit to rest so i can have a break and then concentrate on ESB. I don't care if some of the FX aren't great or that elements don't match. the vision i had for the edit is now on screen and i had to do this using whatever footage i possibly could. I'd never done FX before and i am proud of what i have accomplished so this will be my last word on any changes happening for the DVD versions of ANH. Here's the changes:

Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
Ponad Baba's arm will be swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
Credits fixed

As for the sabers being too fat then just have a look at the state of the originals. the width is all over the place throughout. When rotoscoping i had to make them slightly fatter in a lot of shots because the blade is all over the place and has really jagged edges and as was mentioned by Fuser the blades are never the same thickness during ESB & ROTJ an actually get fatter than the ones i did at times too.

Oh and if i sounded a bit cranky yesterday then i appologise. I'm in total agony at the moment. Not only are my health problems worse due to the cold weather but half my back tooth cracked off and there is no NHS dentist that will fix it , i just can't afford to go private, so i have to wait for the hospital to send me an appointment to fix it which could take up to 4 months for me to get in. Isn't the UK a great country. you can pay you national insurance contributions for all your working life and when you need the help you can't get it , especially if you live up north. If i was a criminal, drug addict, binge drinker or an immigrant i would receive immediate treatment from the NHS. But i'm a law abiding citizen who worked all his life until my health problems and contributed to this country, so i can go to hell as far as this government is concerned.

Ady, you are an amazing man! We wish you well! I cannot believe you actually fixed those minor shots! So will this be for new torrent upload or will this wait for DVD?

As I said before, Adywan will probably first post the DVD on the Usenet. Once people download it from there or they get it by post, somebody will hopefully make a torrent.

Now that I think of it, I had the exact same problem in exactly the same spot. I chalked it up to a possiblem problem with my conversion to DVD or an issue with my DVD player. But maybe something else is going on here.

For the benefit of everyone, here's my understanding of how PIF works. In it's simplest form, PIF means you get it for free, but you pay the shipping to send it on to others. This systems depends on the honesty of everyone involved.

1) The creator sends out a number of copies to the first wave. The exact number the creator sends is really up to him, considering that he will have to cover shipping. For the sake of an example, let's assume the creator sends out 3 copies.

2) Each member of the first wave then announces on the forum that they have the edit, and each of them offers to send it FOR FREE to the first 3 people to PM them. It's up to the person offering the edit to determine if they want to send it overseas, offer any kind of special shipping, or offer more than 3 copies. To continue our example, we have 3 people sending out 3 discs each, for a combined total of 9 discs to the second wave.

3) The second wave does the exact same thing as the first wave, continuing to send out the edit to the third wave. Etc. Etc. It goes on in successive waves until everyone has it.

The later waves have a higher chance of not having to pass it on, simply because everyone who wants it may already have it. But the people in the later waves will also have to wait longer to get it.

Hope this helps.

And Adywan, I'm stoked that you're going with the human hand. That'll be cool.

PIF where you send out hard copies does not work,I have tried this with Rikter,ADM,and others back in the day,and it NEVER worked NEVER!

most of the people only want there copy and screw the rest, sorry for being so blunt, but that is just how it is,I personally have sent out a crapload of DVDr's and the chain always breaks,so the person doing all the sending gets screwed, and then people still cry for torrents,so then the same guy that sent out a bunch of DVDr's then ends up torrenting(which was me back in the day, just check my torrent history at Spleen,Demonoid and others)
SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and LEARN the newsgroups,or get a premium rapidshare acct.,both services are very very cheap,it is the LEAST you can do to get this and other GREAT edits and requies nearly no work or effort at all,and requires NO SEEDING! so noone gets screwed by the darn hit and runners.

I just can't believe there are still people whining(and this is at both OT and FE)over wanting torrents, sooner or later noone will use them, then what are you gonna do?

sorry for the rant, but come on guys, you are getting this and other fine edits for free, take the time and effort to learn the alternate methods of obtaining them, stop crying for torrents, also as a side note, alot of people do not like torrenting DL DVDr's anyway, takes to damn long to seed.

yeh, this was something that happened to me when i watched it back on the pc. i bunrned the xvid, untouched, to a dvd-r so i could watch the xvid on my ps3 and it was perfectly in sync. i then watched the quick dvd render i did of the almost completed DVD and it was fine too. I really can't explain what happened there. But the strange this is that when i skipped the xvid back to the beginning of the scene on my pc it was in sync again.

You're absolutely correct. It was a perfectly calm delivery of a cease-and-desist order in an open forum, coupled with a public repudiation of the entire project. Spiteful, rude, and better handled privately, but certainly calm.

I tried to send you a PM as I don't want to start talking generals of doing CG'ing here in this thread (I'll never shut up ), but it didn't go through. Are your PM's turned on?

In regards to recent posts... Maybe someone has a nice kitten picture to happier-ize the vibe? Just a thought.

Sorry, I didn't expect to get a PM fom you. I will have the feature turned on after this post.

DJ, I realize that there are selfish types that take advantage of the PIF system. I don't have as much experience with this as you, but in my experience the PIF "net" becomes so wide that everybody usually gets what they want in the end, even when the selfish types don't play fair. PIF is voluntary, so if you don't feel like taking a gamble, you don't have to participate. It's been worth it for me (so far).

Come to think of it, I really wish we had some kind of PIF rating system, so that we could root out the cheaters.

I REALLY like that idea. Its like what Ebay did with their rating system, otherwise Ebay would never have grown confidence in mass market users. An organised PIF network would be really helpful.

Anywan,

I don't want to bore bore by sounding like a yes man, but I think the only thing that I would have changed are all part of the new changed that you have made (including the arm). I also have to say, what you did with the lightsabers is PERFECT. I don't think they're too fat at all. The sabers was easily the thing that bothered be the most from the orignal and even more so in the new cuts.

yes a rating system would be nice so you can see who the selfish idiot or idiots are that broke the chain, but hey if someone starts a PIF chain by all means,go for it dude, and you say you get it eventually, well why not just invest a little time and effort and very small amounts of $ and get the edit within hours after it is released, hell most of us had Ady's xvid an hour or even a little less after it was posted, and it will only take 2-3 hours to get the SL DVD when posted 4-5 for the DL,isn't that alot better than hoping you get a hard copy from someone that may break the chain?

after all these selfish people know there is nothing any of us can do to them, that is why they do it.

I know there are bums out there, dark_jedi, but I'm really counting on the generosity of some people to get me a hard copy. Neither I or my computer are good with torrents or rapidshare, or whatever else mass downloading system out there. I still haven't seen adywan's completed work yet but I have confidence that it's a piece of art, better than any crap that the great flanneled one has spewed out in recent years.

Erik and zombie are on to something. The PIF should be voluntary and we should be able to leave feedback on those participating, both postive and negative. There has to be honor and accountability if PIF is going to work.

Ady, those are great additional "tweaks" and I'm glad to hear you've finally closed the book on this project for good. I think you've gone above and beyond what all of us expected from this edit and I can't wait to see the DVD in all of its' glory. Thank you for everything you've done and for creating a version of Star Wars that far exceeds anything we've ever seen before.

That's exactly what happened. I haven't bothered with this thread or this project in a long time. I have a screen shot that a friend took with my name on it.

Thank you Adywan for re-rendering the credits. I trust that we won't have an issue anymore.

And I find it amusing that I'm the "rude" one yet I'm the one being called names.

You could've been more polite and/or private in your request, but it's not unexpected given your brash attitude that's been on display here many times in the past.

Compare the following two phrases:

"Could you remove my name from the credits? Nothing personal, I'd just rather not be listed. Thanks."

"I don't support this project, nor did I give you permission to include my name in the end titles. Please remove it."

One is a polite request, while the other is a brusque demand coupled with an unnecessarily antagonistic aside. When you figure out which is which, you'll begin to understand the reactions to your post.
