I wasn't talking about if the titles were released on Blu-ray or HD-DVD... I was talking about the extras on The Criterion Collection laserdiscs which aren't even on DVD. Discs to be made to accompany the DVD release.

That would be a most excellent preservation effort.

And if your studio release has two discs and this CC DVD counts as the third, might as well buy some three-disc cases. Hell, I consider owning both the single disc ALIEN: 20th Anniversary and the 2-disc Collector's Edition to be a three-disc set. Fairly much all of these extras which aren't even on DVD which would be suitable for their own disc as I've already mentioned would be great for completists and for those who enjoy extra material content.
I wouldn't even need a custom cover, just disc label art pertaining to the concept I laid out. Perhaps a laserdisc and a DVD logo? Of course the top of the disc on the label art would be the films title and on the bottom would cover the Criterion Collection information. Sounds good to me.

Is there anything on the Dead Ringers criterion set that isn't on DVD now..?

Does anyone know how the quality of the Lawrence Of Arabia Criterion set compares to the DVD releases? They all come from the same transfer apparently.

Remember we got the excellent Banned Bond set, with Dr No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger.

Dead Ringers Criterion DVD does not contain "Crimes of the Future", everything else that was on laser is on the DVD, or so I read. "Crimes of the Future" has been released on Blue Underground's 2-disc SE of Fast Company.
There is no way the Lawrence of Arabia laserdisc is better quality than the SuperBit DVD releases.

I have some issues with the superbit DVD of Lawrence when viewing it on my 37" 1080p Samsung, that I have with many DVDs, and was wondering how the laserdisc would compare. The hi-vision LD is the highest def version you can get of LOA, but I haven't got a high end player and encoder... A new transfer and 1080p release of Lawrence Of Arabia would convince me to buy a Blueray/HD-DVD player.

So, any other Criterion laserdiscs with features or a different cut of the film not listed already..?

I didn't know there was a Muse version, sorry. What kind of issues are you talking about?

The new version is totally different. I'd be interested in archiving this.

I've got the set. I'm in Berkeley, though, and I take it from your tag that you're on the other side of the States.

Another Criterion that might be worth some work is Tootsie. There's a great commentary track from Sydney Pollack, plus a detailed documentary, a rather glitchy photo gallery, and a great outtake of "Dorothy" being interviewed by Gene Shalit. One could also consider incorporating the EPK material from the Columbia/TriStar SE disc set-- none of this stuff made it to the DVD.

Oy vey...looks like I'm going to have to tackle this...unless someone else is. Since I don't have either disc, I'm going to have to put some money down.

Once again, does anyone have mp3s of any of these? I'd be glad to upload them to my paid Rapidshare account, so they'll remain there until the very least June and likely much longer.

For those of you "Close Encounters" fans, I have all the supplements of the CAV laserdisc version transferred to DVD-R (as you know, these were exclusive to the Criterion Collection and not available on any subsequent DVD edition of the film).  However, right now it is spread onto 2 DVD-Rs as part of a fan-made project I did many years ago, a compilation of all the known footage (theatrical, SE, collector's edition, deleted scenes) from CE3K.  I am planning to someday do a one-disc edition of just the supplements to supplement whatever DVD of CE3K you have.  Hit me up if interested.

The Criterion release contains interviews, publicity materials, screenplays of deleted scenes, and "frame by frame" photo and artwork not available on any subsequent DVD issue of the film.  However, Criterion had no trailers or deleted scenes not in any of the two major versions that were out at the time (original theatrical and special edition).

I hope to begin some type of work on the single disc adaptation of the Criterion CE3K materials sometime within the next few weeks.  This should be easy since it's already onto digital format.  So if interested and want it sooner, hit me up and I'll do what I can.

I'm done with the Tootsie preservation. Haven't upped it yet, though.

Has anyone here released the Criterion Laserdisc commentaries in MP3 format?

Nope!  It's completely done.  I just haven't "upped" it yet. :)

Anyone have the "Bad Day at Black Rock" LD commentary done by John Sturges? I have been searching for this forever.

I love "The Game Criterion", although the copy someone gave me was a compressed single layer disc instead of the uncompressed version. But I love it all the same.

Speaking of commentaries. Would applying a commentary of, say the Robocop Criterion dvd (out of print) along with other "special features" to a nicer, newer print of the film count as a preservation?

I have my own plans to do a few Criterion preservations of disks I have.

"The James Bond Films" (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger) Upgrade

"Lawrence of Arabia" (Preservation of the 4 disc set with all extras)

"Akira" (With the original English audio)

"A Hard Day's Night" (This will also include the very rare complete unaltered original mono mix from the first MPI release)

I believe you HAVE to be invited by a member.  I used to be a member a ways back...my account got pruned due to inactivity...and I haven't been able to get back in since...........good luck.

Same here. I also lost my membership due to inactivity. I think they still have a few of my projects posted there. In fact, I found out about this very forum from the MySpleen members. That was about 5 years ago. The site also went down for an extended period of time.
