STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 137

I think the restructured hut scene works better than the original cut. It's as if Obi-Wan is slowly easing Luke in before he asks him to help him deliver the plans.

As far as the flipper goes, I can live with it. If it really annoys me, I can always edit the Wolfman's hand back in. I encourage anyone who is annoyed of certain aspects of Ady's work to just cut it out and replace it with the original footage. If Ady is satisfied with his edit, he shouldn't be forced to change it at all.

Right. It's not like anything useful could have been accomplished in the two minutes it takes to get to that part of the conversation. I can't see Obi-Wan watching the Leia video and then jumping up in a panic, "Oh shit, we've gotta get out of here and save the rebellion! Here, take this light saber, I'll explain later." He'd be sitting in the cantina talking to Han, drumming his fingers impatiently on the table, "Yeah, yeah, Kessel run, great, can we get the hell out of here please?!?" "A great disturbance in the force... damn this is really gonna throw us off schedule!"

You get the picture.

for those who do not have it yet and are wondering how??????

alt.binaries.starwars

there are also torrents and rapidshare......check www.fanedit.org for some of this info

Several pages back there are also links to the first set of torrents that most of us that got from the news group are seeding.

Anyone reading this can tell this is truely a master piece and should be watched over and over again.....for the first time

Much Respect Ady!!!!

I have started passing it around work and already the response is the same as this thread. Ady......you should be very proud of the ripple you sent through the force. We all knew it would be great....but Wow!

Honestly.....I do not think I can complain about a single thing you did......not even the severed arm since that is what we have always believed even though it may not have fit the scene....and the flipper was the obvious replacement for the hand to match what we have always thought. Even the "biography" of "Walrus Man" (that is what I knew him as when I was a kid) says that Obi cut his arm off. The human hand does look cool and I can see where it matches the frames in that sequence better. Either way it is fantastic as is the rest of the edit.

When the Ties came in my jaw dropped and I guess I made some very happy loud noises as my wife came in and asked if I was having fun....and of course I said, "You would not believe what Ady has done to Star Wars....it is amazing and what I always hoped it would be back when the SE's came out."

Enjoy everyone as alot of us already have.

Wow, I'm not sure which one I like better! I'd love to see what NormanS has in mind (below was the latest, FIXED):

I hate to bring this up again. After reading adywans reply, I felt I should totally remove any indication to the thumb and I have gone back to my original reference, I have also changed the light direction as he suggested. I'm done now. I won't do the smoke, as it's too time consuming, and I don't even know if my work is going anywhere (I will do whatever is needed, if ady asks me to). If anyone is ever going to do their own edit and want my CG flipper hand in, just let me know. It would be cool if ady wanted my CG flipper, but that's up to him. We still have to see his new version!

Anyway, this is hopefully the last post regarding pondababa's hand that you will hear from me.

EDIT: Oops! adywan just posted the new flipper hand!

Ady, if you would, can you please include whichever version you don't use as a deleted extra on the DVD-9? That'd be awesome and guaranteed to please everyone (who could then splice in their own chosen version).

(A branching option would be even better, but... hehehe!)

PS: I'd like to order one of those "I survived the great flipper debate of '08" t-shirts! I'll take a large.

Actually thats my first try. The second try is two posts under Adys flipper hand. I made the texture less lumpy and tried to match this reference:

I love how all the Cantina aliens have crazy-ass alien features, and then an average male human build.

Brilliant work Adywan. I wish I had half of your skills for working on my Transformers edit. I can't wait for the next 5!

Ady:

Just wanted to thank you for the thoughtful gesture of including us all in the credits.

And even if you don't adjust my name to the way I was hoping you could, I am happy beyond words that I'm there in the first place.

Although I did have the great suggestion of putting George Lucas into the film as a cameo. I've watched it twice and still can't find him. Did anyone locate GL?

-Obi-Swan

PS: I also made the suggestion that you fix the wobbly chess table when Luke stands up. The fix looks fantastic.

How about something to hide the hand/flipper? Here's an idea.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to solve this debate?

I prefer a human hand and not a flipper, because it's clearly Doctor Whateverhisnameis who draws the gun. I just think the hand used should be that of a man who's a little older, like maybe in his 50's. So that the hand is a little more gnarled looking.

I haven't commented on this project before, but I wanted to add my 2 cents, why not? I prefer the human hand to the fin. However, it looks way too neat, as if somebody just cut off his arm and laid it out nice and neat. What about palm up and the fingers curled? since it would have been curled around the gun anyway...

Kind of like the hand on the left, or curled like the one below.
(without the burns of course; sorry for the gross image, it was all I could find on google pictures)

But i did say that was very very quick composite and would be nothing like the final one. You even quoted what i said originally in your post

corellian77, i think you should get some of the "I survived the great flipper debate of '08" T-shirts printed up. Merchandising, It's all about the merchandising.

There'll be a battle or some such shit before too long.

I agree with Tweaker, but seeing the quality of Ady's work, I wouldn't know what side to be on. So basically I would be smacking myself silly.

The character that draws the gun is the one with a human hand not the one with the filipper. The gun is drawn with the right hand, in this picture above it's the left hand. I prefer the hand over the fipper, because it just works better for continuity sake!

Okay, I'm laughing so hard at these pictures that I might have just peed a little bit in my pants....

My vote, for what it's worth, is to put a human arm there. I always assumed a mistake was made in the original when it wasn't human. However, I suggest flipping the hand over so that the fingers are more visible and 'claw-like'. It would make the scene more gruesome and make up for the loss of blood, which I liked because it gave the scene an edge. Having it twitch would be a little over the top in terms of sheer nastiness. (WHOOPS! Jedi_jra said the exact same thing on the last page, with samples to boot!)

Again, awesome job Adywan, and thanks for the explanation about the lost Threepio reaction shot. I agree that the scene still works without it, as he does look a little forlorn at the news of Artoo's 'death', but it sounds like you have plans for this again...
