Garrett isn't selling anything either. He was given a copy of the edit that was indicated to him as the final version. Here's the first email he sent me about it:

How weird - everyone on Originaltrilogy is posting about the extended Army of Darkness waiting for it. The guy who made it, Scott, has made no announcement. He sent this edit to me AGES ago. Maybe you should let them know it actually exists! Maybe I'll put it up as a torrent.

Quit trying to sleight a dude for trying to help you.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

RB does not even have it yet.

Hey pal, relax. I was in no way accusing you of selling anything dark_jedi. And I respect the fact that you would not share anything without someones permission, you have been a good member of this community and the preservation community for a long time, I would never expect or suspect you of selling or distributing something if you felt you shouldn't. My post was not directed at you, nor was it ment to be taken so accusatory as it has been.

I am not trying to "sleight a dude" for anything, nor am I accusing Garrett of selling anything. Ridgeshark also sent me a copy back in November for me to proof-watch. Nowhere in anything he wrote to me did he give me permission to distribute it. I would not even think about making a copy and giving it to a close friend without Ridgeshark's permission.

You (Reverend Beastly) said that an ex-member had a copy and would be sending it to you, and you would send it to dark_jedi , who could distribute it for everyone to enjoy. I didn't know if the ex-member had permission to distribute it or not. When you said that the ex-member was Garrett, I said that is was a very Garrett like thing to do to distribute a movie without the makers permission and I don't think it is a good idea. I made this comment based on Garrett's selling of other peoples preservations that happened once upon a time. Not trying to bring that back up, don't get me wrong, I actually like Garrett and use to enjoy reading his posts, I merely ment that the guy has not shown the best judgment in the past when it comes to these matters, and his lead might not be the best to follow. The fact that in the email he wrote to you he immediately came to the conclusion "Maybe I'll put it up as a torrent" since the Ridge hasn't released it yet confirms what I wrote was an accurate assumption.

It is a great set. It would be sad for it not to see the light of day beyond the few people he sent copies out to. I was very impressed with it, from the menu and disclaimer down to the actual editing. He put a lot of work into it, and has done a great job. Maybe he wouldn't mind it being distributed, maybe he wants it distributed. But I think it is quite an honor to be asked to receive an advanced copy for previewing, and while he did not say to me "please don't distribute this to anyone" it doesn't seem right for me to do so.

If I made an edit, and asked someone if they would be willing to check it for errors, then after sending it to them got busy with life and had to put the project aside for a bit until I had time to come back and finish it up, and while I was gone I find that it made its way all over the internet, I would be pretty annoyed.

At anyrate, do as you feel comfortable with. Sorry, I honestly was not trying to sleight anyone.

I understand where you're coming from C3PX, I didn't want to be responsible for releasing anything without permission. Internet message boards are not the best places for being able to accurately read into a person's intentions. It just seemed from what I heard that it was a finalized version worthy of distribution.

Anyway, it's out of all of our hands now. Look it up on The Pirate Bay.

I can't access the pirate's bay from my current location, but I take that to mean ocp went ahead and posted it.

I was very impressed with Ridgeshark's work. This is a must have for any Evil Dead fans out there. Most of the delected scenes he added back in match the rest of the film perfectly and are hardly noticeable. Some of the footage that he had to grab from a lower quality source isn't exactly seamless, but that footage looks better than most of us will have ever seen it looking before, and Ridge made it fit in as smoothly as possible. I really like the windmill scene in his version too. Also the disclaimer at the beginning as well as the menu are both very creatively done.

Here's the info...

ARMY OF DARKNESS
Primitive Screwhead Edition

Created by Ridgeshark, this is the most complete version of Army of Darkness available.

Respect copyright! Only download this if you already own several other versions of Army of Darkness, legally. Do not pay money for this. Do not charge money for this.

This version includes both the alternate endings and alternate openings. It includes scenes seen only in the Sci-Fi channel version of the film, and scenes only seen as deleted scenes on the official discs, such as Ash fighting Arthur, Ash recruiting Henry the Red, the extended windmill scene, etc.

It also includes a new sound mix which includes some musical surprises from the great soundtrack by Joe Lo Duca (and Danny Elfman). Most notably the opening logos are different. You'll have to see.

The deleted scenes which appear in workprint quality have been cleaned up frame by frame as much as possible. They will never be perfect, but this is about as good as they're going to look and sound until better quality material is made available.

This is of course the third in the Evil Dead series of films directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell.

Best wishes, all.

I have seen nearly all the versions out there except for the bootleg LD, which I wonder if it's the same as the Japanese version that I've seen. Anyway, I look forward to seeing this project. I hope it's the final version and that ocp had obtained permission.

my only wonder is if the entire thing was compressed to fit onto a DVD5 considering the MGM R2 director's cut video quality is so high that it required one to shrink it down. I'm looking for the uncompressed DVD9 of the film so I can finish my Evil Dead II/Army of Darkness DVD9.

Demonovation, I'm having the same problem. I'm at 76.8 and have been for several hours. Hopefully OCPMovie or whoever starts seeding again soon... I've been waiting for this edit a long time...
can't you shut that chicken up?

ok, so i asked the guy who posted the torrent on piratebay (tygerbug) and he's being a dick about it:

"Stop posting this everywhere.

I did not shrink the disc down, and I don't think it
was shrunk, no."

i'm asking a simple question and i get "stop posting this everywhere" and it's not compressed to fit on a DVD5. what a bunch of crap. the original length of the R2 director's cut with everything but the film stripped is about 6GB. i know because i tried to make a DVD5 of just the film. he was clearly given a compressed test-copy. from what i know this version has branching with the alternate ending. either way, i ask the guy one question and get a "no". which is hilarious considering it's 4.7GB... the exact size of a DVD5. i never showed the guy any disrespect and even thanked him for the torrent and his time... man, where is RidgeShark?

everyone else is freaking out about seeding, i ask a simple technical question. when the answer is clearly "i don't know". the exact reason releasing someone else's work is a problem is that you don't know the details about the source and can't answer any questions. and i'm pretty sure none of us would sell anything that's a fan-edit anyway. well, i'm sure i'll be getting some big nasty e-mail back because i asked a question.

SO it is DVD5,so what,if you have the MGM R3 DVD make your own DVD9,just be thankful it is even going up,man can't people just be happy with what we get.

I am making my own version and mine will be DVD9,so you can do it to,make your own,it is as simple as that.

But I myself cannot wait to see this, and I am not complaining at all that it is DVD5,SO WHAT.

According to ocpmovie, the intermittent seeding times are the result of housemates shutting off his computer when he goes out, Internet problems in his area, and people not online when he seeds at night. So just be patient folks - once one or two people reach 100%, this'll be all over the place in no time.

As for the single layer DVD issue: as dark_jedi says, just be grateful this is being released at all. If this version is a compressed preview copy - and I'd be lying if I said it hadn't crossed my mind - then let's leave it to RidgeShark to release the full DVD-9 version when he's ready. Until then, let's just enjoy what's out there. Hell, it's easier on my bandwidth anyways

He(Ridgeshark)may not release a DVD9,and if not,I am still good with that, and how do you know it was compressed,it could have been all re-encoded,a damn good re-encode looks just fine,I have taken a Dawn of The Dead edit that was just shy of 8 full GB's and used DVD Rebuilder Pro to make a DVD5 out of it and it looks and sounds friggin sweet, and I am watching on a 62" HDTV with ALL my DVD's being upconverted to HD,I just did a multi-pass CCE encode,so it was actually re-encoded not compressed, maybe Ridge did it that way,I do know this is becoming more and more practiced instead of using the very crappy DVD Shrink or others.

So why don't you wait until you have it and see it before making judgements.

OK this is ocpmovie's(Garret) response to the crap that is going on:

"Yes, AOD has been reencoded. Scott didn't use some
sort of M2V hack as I did for my Classic Editions. The
bitrate from the R3 DVD doesn't matter since this is
NOT the R3 DVD. It was made from it, but it's not it
anymore. The disc looks terrific, and I believe it was
designed to be a DVD-5, with no DVD-9 planned. I would
have to ask Scott.

Mumbles has posted his complaints at every place he
could find, and I found it annoying. I told him to
stop, he's called me a "dick." Whatever.

Some people can't be happy with anything. This is
an amazing release of a classic film. Be happy with
it.

And yes, I'll do better seeding this weekend. I'm
sorry, I work during the day and my housemates do seem
to shut the computer off when I'm not there, the
bastards!"

Thanks ocp for this response, and as you can see,you bet I will post it here for the complainers to see.

thanks for upping for us.

I hope he does I'm at 95% going on 5 days. I will easily seed this for a while if it will ever finish!

ok, first off... i wasn't complaining. i was merely asking a question. i just can't see how adding extra footage (+ additional ending) to the R3 DVD with a 5.1 track would be smaller than the original R3. i just wanted to know if the original source was dual layer or not. i have nothing against anyone here since i'm fairly new to the site myself. i joined this forum specifically for this release. i just wanted to know more about how it was compiled... if there were multiple passes in the encoding that's fine. i just can't see how RidgeShark would release a DVD5 compressed version of it considering he used an HD copy of Army of Darkess and the R3 DVD to put it all together.

either way, i'm happy to have it. i just wanted to know the specs on it and apologize if you see it as 'complaining'. i've been waiting for this ever since it was mentioned so forgive my questions... i guess i got impatient waiting for RidgeShark to come back. it's no big deal.

Don't worry mumbles. When it comes to the Evil Dead movies, people tend to lose their heads a bit. Sometimes literally.

Hey guys. New user here.

I just finished downloading the torrent and I am totally lost on what to do next. If anyone feels like posting instructions for us who have no idea what a DVD5 or DVD9 or a VOB file is, it would very appreciated.

Bob, do you even have a DVD burner? That is step one. Chances are your burner came with a program such as Nero. Open Nero or whatever DVD burning program you use, select "Make DVD Movie" or something to that extent, then browse to the folder where you downloaded the Primitive Screwhead edition of Evil Dead 3 and select it. A DVD-5 is is a single layer DVD, a DVD-9 is a duel layer. If you bought a cheap spindle of blank DVDs then you have single layers.

Mumbles, I am not sure if Ridgeshark ever intended to release a duel layer version of this. Anyway, with the amount of editing Ridge did on this thing it most definitely required re-encoding. I suppose he just re-encoded it to fit on a DVD-5. I know that is considered a little small these days, but it suits the majority of us just fine. I think the quality on the thing looks as good as any of the official DVD releases I have seen.
