I like it Ady - the added texture takes away the slightly odd look it had

definately love the new gooey stump Ady, once the smoke is in and the few glowing embers it will renew some of those gross-out memories I had growing up, the detail on the flipper looks better, but it does look a bit like an avocado now. it's still a bit abstract in suggesting it's meant to be an arm of some sort.

Wow Ady, so soon? Great work on the flipper, love the wound to. Some glow and smoke FX and it will be perfect, the lighting is also improved.

Oh. I've changed my mind now Ady - I think that will really do it. You'll have to smear some oil on your hand though to give it the authentic Star Wars drunken bum look!

I think that shot is great. I know canon says it's Ponda that gets chopped, but I just don't see how the rest of the scene supports that. (I've watched the film a hundred times and it never crossed my mind that it could have been anyone but the human who gets it. I only learned that upon seeing the flipper shot.) I wouldn't complain if it ended up being the flipper, because I know that's "correct", and I respect that. But I'd be delighted to have the option of seeing the hand instead, just because it makes so much more sense. I said it before, but I think a seamless branching option would rock.

Regardless of your final decision, Ady, your work on this project is truly legendary.

EDIT: I should have clarified that, of course, however you want it to be is how it should be. You hardly need me to tell you that, but I'm trying to head off the responses from those who seem to be mistaking honest criticism for a crucifixion.

ady.

love the new ponda boba flipper, stick with that, it's what you wanted from the start.
plus the gun next to it isn't the same one dr evanza pulled (see last pic p162 this thread) so it shouldn't be his hand anyway.
i'll shut up now, i'm getting on my own nerves

Not that my two cents matters, but I've never thought it would be the humans arm. It never even caught my attention until you guys started discussing it.

What can I say but "Wow" and of course "Thank You". Just watched this amazing edit and currently feel like I hoped to back in '97 when the SE came out. This edit is amazing and George Lucas should be forced to watch it (no pun intended!).

Adywan, sorry to ask this again, but why did you cut C3P0's reaction to "I lost R2"?

I just had to congratulate Adywan on finishing what I think is the most ambitious and well-made fan edit I've ever seen. You made the impossible possible. You've put ILM to shame and you've brought hope to those of us who truly believe these films CAN be fixed. Believe me, I know first hand how very hard and time-consuming it is to do this stuff. It takes an amount of dedication that many people could never appreciate unless they've spent months staring at their computer screen, poring over the footage, doing it themselves.

This project is a milestone for what can be accomplished by a fan with a home computer and has raised the bar for all of us.

So, my hat's off to you, Buddy. You've kicked the shit out of anybody else who's ever tried to do something like this. I'm sure you need a well-deserved break, but I'm definitely looking forward to whatever you decide to do next.

Congrats and thank you.

Adywan, that's a much better Ponda arm. Excellent job. I'm torn between a human arm and Ponda's arm though. Since we see the gun being drawn from the human, my gut says to go with that but that goes against everything from the movie we originally saw.

Ady,

THANK YOU!!! What you have done is amazing!

On a different note, with all the reasearch and pics regarding the flipper/hand topic, has anyone contacted Jambe Davdar to see if he could use this info for his ANH doc? It's a lot a great behind the scenes info.

Thanks again, I am loving this edit.

Hi Adywan!

Love your revised flipper shot - the extra detail really makes it come alive (er if a recently severed arm can be called alive... and if it is.... RUN!!!).

However.... I loved ur mock up of the human arm even more - it's alot more shocking (like the skeletons of Beru and Owen) and brings a slightly more 'adult' edge to the film, and I think will truly put YOUR stamp on this edit. OK according to canon it's Pondu's arm that is loped off, but from watching the film only and the way it is edited the case can be made for it being Dr Ugly's arm instead, being as he's the closest etc.

Just my £2 worth.

I'm unable to download your edit Ady, I'll have to wait for the DVD, but I still wanted to give you my congratulations on finally completing your masterpiece. I can only imagine the sense of satisfaction you have right now after devoting over a year and a half of your life to this project. Now take a long vacation, you've earned it, then when your fully refreshed we need you to get to work on ESB and ROTJ. Cheers to you, Mr. Adywan!

Now that the edit is complete, I hoping some of my fellow forum brethren here in the U.S.A. can hook me up with a NTSC DVD-5 & DVD-9 version when they become available. I would be forever grateful.

well - not totally. I don't need to see my name in the credits, but I did send a few resources to Ady during the process that he requested
and I'm not there.
Ady, I just finished viewing it again - marvelous job!

the only issue I noticed was during the scene when Luke is gazing at the binary sunset I got this odd flashing red line at the bottom of the film - maybe it was data corruption in the files as I got them - not in your original.
EDIT: it's on my end

the new space battle scenes are great (Especially the 4 TIE vs. Falcon escape scene), and the new computer readouts.

Vader/Kenobi duel - outstanding - I kept asking aloud, "how did he do that?"

... and so many other little things that made me smile and say - "how cool" - things that added but were not distracting.

Great work! I know my 2004 SE DVD is going to simply be a cool drink coaster now!

I'm an Adyfan all the way!

Looks pretty good for a quick composite. Even as a rough shot, I can feel the shock value of the shot.

p.s. the color and effects hold up extremely well of my HD 46'.

Is it just my bad memory, or in the original version did the original music swell just as Obi-wan is closing his eyes and putting his saber up? (before Vader delivers the slo mo killing blow) Or is it during his grin as he's glancing back at Luke?

If so, that would be more poigniant than the "climax" of the prequel music followed by the music coming in during the slow mo of the clothing falling.

Can somebody confirm?

Kurgan, I believe the moment you're referring to occurs just as Vader swings his blade through Obi-Wan.

And Ady... *pause*... I really, really hate to add to this already ridiculous discussion on the flipper/hand, but for what it's worth, if you decide to go with a redone flipper, I think it should look less textured than what appears in the sample you posted. Something perhaps between your model and NormanS' might look good... something smoother.
