"I think the greatest compliment I can give is this will be the version I now watch in preference to all others"
"It would have been so easy to do too much to the facial movements, but you have it spot on"

I think these two sentences sum up exactly what I feel too - I cannot imagine wanting to watch a different version of ANH now. Even if the big George does release a decent unaltered version, it wont be as good as Adys version - now I've seen the DS battle like that, the old one cant hold muster. Even little things like flipping the shots keep the flow perfectly.....
And, the changes have been done with love and care, without any feeling of 'look what I can do with my CG!' showing off.

I didnt realise you'd gone to the extent of filming a new hand for Ponda either - what sheer dedication.

Lucasfilm need you. George needs you to sit him down and say 'George, you need to do it like this'.

Thank you again Ady - I havent stopped thinking about your edit (and smiling to myself) since I watched it yesterday

I'd like to throw my hat in as another person saying great job. I just popped the Special Edition DVD in and wow, looking at these things side to side, there is no comparison as to which one is superior. The battle sequence 9along with pretty much everything else in the movie) at the end is amazing.
I think I did find George, and what appears to be someone else who wasn't there in the original shot (I can only assume who it could be ).
All in all, fantastic job, you deserve a long rest, and thanks for your very hard work in making this.

Adywan,

that picture you posted of Pondu Bapa (or whatever his bloody name is - lol!) is interesting (if ur a geek like me) in that both sleeves are now short. I have a picture of Pondu standing by the cantina with his arm severed and the bloody stump. They obviously had to cut the other sleeve to match the shortness of severed arm sleeve for the holiday special.

Anyway, er I digress - back to our scheduled program

P.S. Hooray - hip hip......

Sorry for the blank post. I kind of lack CPU skills, but how do I PM somebody?

I'm eagerly awaiting finishing my download and being able to watch this amazing edit, but I have one question in the meantime:

Is the Emperor in the film at all now?

Because there are people who will want to seek out the best possible blank media on which to place this project, I feel this is on topic enough to warrant a response...

The best disc would be a Taiyo Yuden dual layer hub printable watershield glossy. Unfortunately, I don't think they make it yet (or at least I couldn't find it on Google). What I did find...

DVD+R DL 8X MBI WATERPROOF GLOSSY WHITE INKJET HUB (45 PCS)

DVD+R DL 8X MAM-A WHITE INKJET HUB PRINTABLE (25 PCS)

Taiyo Yuden 8X 8.5GB Dual Layer DVD-R, Inkjet White, Hub Printable, 100pack

MAM-A (Mitsui) DVD+R DUAL LAYER, 8x, 8.5GB, White Inkjet Edge-to-Edge Printable

The Taiyo Yuden will obviously be great quality, although I couldn't find it anywhere in less 100 quantity. Anyone have experience with the MAM-A (Mitsui) or Moser Baer (MBI) dual layer media?

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

The Story of Star Wars
The Adventures Of Luke Skywalker

Well - following my earlier thinking about the Human fella in the cantina, the official Star Wars site says this about Ponda:
"This mean-spirited Aqualish attempted to pick a fight with Luke Skywalker when the young farmboy first set foot in the Mos Eisley Cantina. The tusk-mouthed thug soon learned not to tangle with the ward of a Jedi, as Obi-Wan Kenobi intervened with a flash of his lightsaber. The thug immediately dropped both the issue and his bloody severed arm."

So I take it all back - Ady, the shot is spot on!

What is the name of the pigface that says 'He doesnt like you' to Luke please?

I still think not enough praise has been heaped on the new Death Star schemetics, and the the new holograms the in the briefing room as the rebels watch the end battle. How on the world did Ady come up with such a neat looking display for the death star plans?!!!

I know they are amazing aren't they - I particularly like the table hologram display in the rebel war room. Honestly I keep seeing new bits and pieces here and there I didn't notice first time around. It's a Star Wars geeks wet dream - lol! To list all the positives of this release would take an encyclopedia!

Ady:

Wow. Impressive. Your dedication is unmatched by anybody on this planet. I'm watching it for the second time right now. This is one of the all-time greatest fan creations ever.

I see that you'll be going back into the credits to make some changes and re-render. If it's not too big of a problem, could you slightly adjust my credit while you're doing that? Right now my credit is MASTEROBISWAN. If you can, and if it's not too big a hassle, I would love for it to read MASTER OBI-SWAN. But this is only if you can and feel like doing it. You've done so much work already and I don't want to impose. If you say no, I will not complain.

Thank you again, Ady. This is the best Christmas/birthday present I got.

-Master Obi-Swan

PS: FUSER, sorry I snapped a few posts back. Peace & love.

Well Will, the guy who did the CG mesh anim did a great job on the Death star so it was pretty easy for me to come up with all the other elements of the display in the briefing room. The same mesh was then used for the first shot in the end battle, desaturated and i added the glow and the rest of the elements like the ships etc. For all the other shots where you see the holo table then i had to create a quick cg sphere mesh of the death star to replace Wills' original anim because the angles were quiet a bit different than the first shot ( I though that they were all very similar but they weren't) and as his computer was pretty much 100% tied up rendering the TIES for the approach in the death star battle i just couldn't ask him to have to render new anims for each and ever shot of the holo table, so i had a go myself. I'm actually very pleased with the result

I LOVED IT!

But, I too found the new hand a bit strange: unlike your other changes, this one DID jump out "look at me I'm new!".
When I first saw it I thought "The lighting's off", so I thought I'd try flipping the flipper in The Gimp:

It's a quick and dirty edit, but I think it looks a lot more realistic this way, no?

The new Death Star intro is amazing, but there's something wrong with the way the ships move... it's probably just me though.
I also really liked the added music in the conference room scene after that, but the parts where there's no music are... well, quiet.
I think those are the only parts that bothered me, I really, really loved what you did with the film, and I can't wait to see this in DVD quality

Because the xvid was taken from the avi master it uses the colour values 0 - 255 whereas the mpeg would be 16 - 235(or 233 i can't remember off hand now) so the xvid will look darker when watched on a TV. The brightness that you will see on the DVD is the highest the values could go without causing some major problems with the picture, especially in the darker areas.

There is music all the way through that scene up until Vader releases him.

i think i may well recomposite the severed arm shot to get the lighting better, so if all goes well you should see the change on the DVD

I think I found a small blooper, and it doesn't appear to be on the original DVD. It's at about 1:33:49 according to WMP. Han destroys the TIE and then his seat swivels to the right, but his turret does not follow. It remains aimed where it was when he last fired it. Just thought I should mention it.

Ady,

I just want to raise my glass and toast you for this fantastic piece of work you've given us!!! I downloaded the Xvid yesterday and I hadn't really planned on watching the whole thing on my PC monitor, but I got so immersed that I just couldn't help myself. It's sheer genius, my friend, and you have put George Lucas to shame. Now I'm literally frothing at the mouth for the DVD version so I can watch it in my home theater setup.

That would be in the original too because i haven't done anything to the position of the gun turrets

the problem for me with changing the arm to the human arm would mean that i would have to build a whole arm section, create a sleeve that was the same material, or as close as possible, as his sleeve in the rest of the shots and re do the gun, probably a build from scratch, so that matched the one seen drawn. It was discussed in length before the edit was complete and no one came up with the suggestion that it should not be ponda babas flipper so that's the way i went, which is what i always intended to do anyway.
