Any copy protection that even comes close to threatening private use of blank discs is outrageous. I'd doubt that any hardware manufacturer would have the guts to care about the movie industry's profits that much. But, I suppose it could be possible.

Otherwise, region encoding is absolutely worthless. It probably accounts for less disc sales than any it protects from pirating.
