Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread

Well, I DVR'd both nights earlier this week and watched them both last night. I'm still interested. I'm glad that T3 is not even acknowledged as existing in this new timeline so far. Summer Glau is great, there are moments where I roll my eyes and go, "Oh, please". Like when Summer Glau rolls up next to John Conner and mutters the obligatory "Come with me if you to live." As noted in another thread, I do find Summer Glau very attractive despite the fact I think she needs to hit a buffet or two. Outside of those few moments that makes even me feel embarrassed for the writers, I'm enjoying it so far and I am looking forward to Monday, anyone else watching.

I watched the pilot a couple of months ago and I absolutely hated it.

Yeah, C3PX, give the second episode a shot, it does bring things together quite well.

Yeah, I'll give it another chance. I really like the first two Terminator movies. I just can't help seeing this for what it is, a cheap cash in on the franchise, and I would rather have had Terminator not have been reduced to that. But T3 already knocked the whole series down a few notches anyway. I know they are trying to appeal to guys with a very young Sarah Connor, but she hardly even looks old enought to be John's mom. I suppose after a couple of episode I could get over that though. Kind of disappointing that we didn't get an opening scene with Summer Glau time traveling naked then walking into a biker bar and demanding somebody give her their clothes.

Yeah, I ain't happy with the actress they chose for Sarah Connor either, she don't even come close to Linda Hamilton. But, hey, back in Shakespeare's day men played the women's parts, so I guess I can let it go as our ancestors did. You want Summer Glau walking around naked, then you HAVE to watch the second episode, you will get your wish I believe, but then maybe you won't, who knows.

I like it - it has the spirit of the first two, especially T2, in a way that T3 never could quite accomplish. I'm sure I'd like it a hell of a lot more if it was on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, or even FX or SciFi where they could get a little bit edgier to keep the tone of the first two a bit more (language and violence, two things that were also sadly toned way down in T3), but at least the spirit is still there.

I'm not sold on Dekker's John Connor, though. And while I would, of course, liked to have seen Linda Hamilton as Sarah, Heady seems to be doing a decent job. And, of course, I'm glad they ditched T3 completely and went off of T2.

At the same time, I'm concerned at how this is going to play out as a series. I think they should treat each season as an extended episodic movie, and limit each season to 13 episodes rather than 24 or so (another thing that makes me feel I'd like it more were it an HBO Sopranos-esque series).

If they really are throwing T3 out the window I find that hilarious considering this is being executive produced by the very same people. I wonder if they did what they did because they wanted it to take place today in 2007 and in order to do that in the timeline established by the last film, 2007 would have to be in the post-apocalyptic Humans vs. Skynet world. You all do raise a good point though, it simply hasn't acknowledged T3 "so far," and considering how crazy of a premise those first two episodes had I wouldn't be surprised if they end up back in 1997 by the end of the series and T3 ends up staying in continuity after all. In any event, it's always interesting to see a franchise make the leap from big screen to small screen, especially when there's another big screen installment just around the corner ....

I'm watching, saw the pilot way back. It's not awesome but it's got enough to keep me watching.

Even though it ignores T3 for the most part it has included T3 themes, mostly the fact that they only managed to postpone events.

To me it doesn't even feel like it fits with T2 but I'll keep watching...for now.

Well if you know who built or will build Skynet, and you can stop it/postpone it,then the series i guess continue where T2 ended.

It is very clearly suppose to take place several years after T2. What Johnny was saying is that it doesn't feel like it fits with T2. I think he means that it just does not feel like a continuation or a sequel to T2. It just doesn't match. That is how I feel too.

How should it "match"?

Anyways, I'm enjoying the show. I think they have some good ideas to play around with. I like the "fish out of water" concept of the Connors going forward in time several years. Now they are in unknown territory as well.

Caught both eps. Nothing wow'd me, but it wasn't bad enough for me to take it off my DVR list. Plus, it's pretty good to watch in HD (if my local WFLX station could get their act together). Even though the pilot opened up to huge numbers, I expect it to drop off just like what happened to Jericho (which you guys should check out when it comes back) last year. The only thing they got going for it is the strike, other wise I would have been surprised it lasted more then a few eps. Though the huge opening was a lot more then I expected, so they might have kept it on a little longer if the strike wasn't going on based off that.

Regarding the show, the actress who played Sarah was pretty good even though she didn't look nothing like her. That didn't bother me too much, characters change all the time. Hell, if the strike didn't post-pone the new Justice League movie, we'd have 2 different actors playing Batman and Superman at the same time as their movies are coming out. Plus there's Smallville as well. So I didn't have as much of a problem with that as I do some other stuff.

I HATE both Terminators. They're so lame compared to the other Terminators, even counting T3. And yes, I'm counting Summer Glau in that. I did like some of the things they did with her model: being a new unidentified one, being different from the other terminators (more personable seemingly), being John's body guard and enrolling in school with him, plus she's cute as hell. I really wished they would have made her a love interest for John rather then a terminator. She played a similar character in Firefly/Serenity, so it'd be nice to see her do something different.

Regarding the T3 ignoring, would it have been possible at all to tie it in? I don't really remember T3 that much, but didn't Sarah die in '97? They set it in '99 with her still alive, couldn't they have just done it a couple years earlier? Did they make John the same age as he would of been after T2? Didn't follow things that closely. I liked how they did tie in her cancer (a little homage to T3) and how they jumped over her death in the new timeline. I think that would have been a pretty cool way to still sorta tie in T3 but basically wipe it out. Don't have a problem ignoring it though, but I thought that would have been pretty cool.

Yep, I agree with your earlier points too, C3PX. But I will stay tuned.

I HAVE A FEELING THE CAMERON WILL TURN OUT TO BE A LOVE INTEREST OF SORTS FOR JOHN. I DON'T THINK THAT JOHN WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER. IT'LL BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND. WE'VE ALREADY SEEN SLIGHT GLIMPSES OF THIS. THIS IS THE TERMINATOR MODEL THAT FEELS EMOTIONS WHICH COULD BE WHY IT'S NOW THE MOST ADVANCED MODEL. I SHIT YOU NOT. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT SOME POINT IN THE SERIES.

Maybe it would have been better if she were a [human] resistance fighter from the future? But then I guess she couldn't go 1 on 1 with the bad guys like she does.

I think the ending of this episode with the Terminator regrowing his skin has sold me for the rest of the season at least, but there are other aspects that are bothering me quite a bit, such as WTF happened to Sarah Connor between T2 and this that she's such a puss about killing someone, and why is "Cameron" all of a sudden so bad at blending in when she was very normal as a "person" at the beginning of the pilot?

Yeah, I just got done with it. Pretty good episode.

it's cool so far. I think "Summer" plays a neat "Fembot". Sarah is cool and pretty also. and the action is not bad. I think it's going to be a hit.

I actually have some issues with the series, especially episode 2.

1) Enrique Salceda. The way he is portrayed right now doesn't fit at all with the character shown in T2. Now he suddenly lives in a nice house, he is retired, and he sells out Sarah to the cops. Are we still talking about the same Enrique who helped Sarah when she was pregnant with John? When she needed guns and training? When they were comrades? This is a complete 180 degrees turn with the characters. Now he is a rat and works together with the police authorities, selling out sarah to them? Enrique was always someone who live and die in freedom. He would never betray his friends and comrades. He would spit on the police, not help them. For me, this character potrayal was completey wrong. I dislike it.

2) Terminators in our time. So Cameron explains there are more Terminators in our present world. Like spiders in internet. Cameron says that they don't know John Connor. If they would find out what he looked like, they would come after him. But they don't know what he looked like. Euh, major problem here: John's uses a search engine and the FIRST HIT displays a picture of him of the bank "robbery". So I don't know if these Terminators are still using the good old paper phonebook, but assuming they know about the internet, I would say they would use that and find a picture of him and thus know what he looks like and start the hunt... a major plothole in my opinion.

3) What I find weird is the body of the Endoskeleton has just been dumped on metal dump, and after 7 years still hasn't been reduced to a package of metal. Also, if they would find such an advanced piece of robotics in a bank vault, why they did dump it? I mean, the T1 deleted scene in the factory shows that companies are really interested in this kind of left-overs So I'm really questioning why it was dumped and why it was not reduced already...

4) About Sarah and her desease, for me this hints to the T3 timeline. So logical thinking, may I assume that Cameron Philips is actually from the T3 timeline? Sarah died in the T3 timeline and Cameron knows about it. So would the next logical thought be that Cameron has been send from the period after T3, meaning she comes from the T3 timeline?

5) Why did the evil Terminator scan Cameron so late and not immediately when they started fighting? Also trying to escape her sounds a bit weak, but perhaps it's their programming as "spiders". Collect data and stay alive so the future Skynet can receive it. Also, why didn't Cameron notice this Terminator between the dead humans?

6) How could the Terminator head travel through time when it's not wrapped in flesh?

I'm still not sure what to think about the idea of the Endoskeleton functioning without the head attached it. I know that these T-888's are triple-core (3 CPU's), and they will have some upgrades etc. Still I think I will have to get used to that idea.

Nice hint though to the T2 deleted scene of hiding something behind a poster. I would have expected a Terminator to find that really quickly with its scanning, especially if these T-888's have various forms of scanning as shown with Cromartie.

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.
