Could even a good Fan Editor save "Galactica 1980"?

I got the 2 DVD set of this train wreck (for the Return of Starbuck episode only). I started to ask myself. could this show be saved with a good edit job, and made into a kind of end to the original show? Now I am asking you all.
It would take a lot (a real lot) of work, but would it be even worth it?

I REALLY DON'T THINK THAT IT WOULD BE WORTH IT. YES, IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF EDITING TO POLISH THE TURD THAT IS GALACTICA 1980. EVEN DOING THAT I DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD MAKE A RESPECTABLE ENDING TO THE ORIGINAL SERIES.

No. Even as a kid, and I watched its re-runs during the day, I never remembered myself enjoying the original Galactica.

tiptup the original galactica and galactica 1980 are complete seperate entities. the original was galactica 1978.

they lost dirk benedict and richard hatch as well as apogee and john dykstra when they not only cut the budget down to nothing but they changed the time slot.

the new galactica rips off just about every idea hatch had for the rebirth he was going to shoot and direct before larson and universal pulled the plug.

a great unfinished concept in the books and comics hatch worked on.

apparently to have a role on the new show and being payed for the commentary on the 1978 boxed set meant he could never show the trailer he made for his movie ever.

NO!!!

It was sad BSG was so short lives, it really was a great show. To this day it is still one of my favorites. But Galactica 1980 was a very poorly and cheaply done attempt to continue the show after the fact. It just wasn't the same show. There is really nothing good in it. The last episode is really the only part worth watching, and I think there have been several fan edits of that in attempts to make it a regular BSG episode. Never seen any of these attempts myself, so I can't say anything about their quality. IMHO BSG had a good ending and doesn't need anything to come after it to close the series up.

A remake that's worse than the original show? Yeesh.

Are you bad mouthing the real Battlestar Galactica???

Galactica 1980 wasn't a remake, it was a desperate and failed attempt to continue the series (or perhaps a "sequel series" might be a good way to put it) on a very low budget. It really was an awful show. I am surprised to hear it even made a DVD release. I guess they decided it would be worth it if they could catch enough unsuspecting people who didn't know what the show was but who were willing to dish out money for anything with the "Galactica" name on it.

Sort of. I understand that a lot of people like the show, but it always seemed so hokey to me. Keep in mind, as a child I loved to watch re-runs of Star Trek TOS, but BS always left me completely bored. Though I barely remember the show, so perhaps I never gave it a proper chance.

My girlfriend has been showing me the new, sci-fi channel series that just started and I'm liking that. At first I was sort of against the show just because of my dislike for the original, but it's very different.

That many years since it started, eh? Time passes fast. Well, I suppose I can say it just started in comparison to the original series at least. That thing's old.

Yup. The first season began back in 2005, but the mini series event (the very first four episodes) date back to 2003.
