I've got the a.b. correct, but when I "get new message bodies" and have let it build for a while, I can't seem to get to the actual messages. Have I overloaded ny system with the 2 million messages that the service has retrieved?

I used to download the headers, but have since stopped this now, as it more often that not seems a pointless task. What I do instead - and I think this should benefit you too - is to visit http://www.binsearch.info and have a look what it has to offer. You can either browse the newsgroups themselves, or indeed if you know what you are looking for then have a search.

In your case - go to the 'advanced search' and select and type hdtv.x264 into the 'newsgroup' field - which should then let you select the group to be searched. Now type Star Wars as the query to be searched, and maybe set the 'maximum age of post' to about 70 days or so. And Voila you will find all the Star Wars HD rips listed. Download and run the .nzb file for the one you wish.

The only prob with this is whether your ISP allows newsgroup access, and if so what groups and how long the retention is. I use Astraweb (http://news.astraweb.com) which allows me to purchase 90GB of downloads for $25 - (approx £13) and this normally lasts me a while as it's a pay by download plan. Their retention is currently 122+ days.

Should I try yet anothe piece of software (I've tried 2 or 3 through this point)?

I use Grabit as my newsreader - this does the job (for me) perfectly - it's also free and is available to download from http://www.shemes.com

I hope this possibly helps!
