How do u all like Eps I & II compare to OT

how do u like the feeling of the new Episodes I and II compare to OT. i dont like that anakin actor. he seemed abit more rowdy person than how darth would turn out to be. this young anakin is rude and i think he ruined the story with his ‘love’ scenes in the movie. if he was made to be full of hatred and anger within him, shouldn’t show love and tenderness to go along. he was really mean killing all the sandpeople and i think GL has to make the love scenes for the sake of story but didnt give a good long thinking for editing? and i think this sentor actress is so weak and all dialogues she was saying were like reading from a script not very natural if u know what i mean. the OT has real natural feel to it from every actor/actress. i think the new arena beasts are not so realistic as compare to old beasts in OT but i dont know their names. how do u compare the feelings of watching the new ones made and old ones?

I think Hayden would be much better if he wasn't so trapped by bad scripting/directing by Lucas. Hayden has proven himself in other films like Life as a House and whatnot. He's not a bad actor.

As for comparing the films. I feel TPM is far inferior to the OT as a whole. However, I do dig on AOTC and rank it above ROTJ, just not above ANH and ESB.

I agree bossk on the bad scripting theory. Throw in the fact that alot of the dialogue was read in front of a bluescreen and you can understand how it can be kind of flat. I have actually grown to like TPM more than AOTC. I think because of the whole cheesy love stuff with Anakin and Padme. Darth Maul was great and I wish he would have been given a chance to develop more as a character before getting chucked down a reactor shaft.
I disagree with ROTJ being inferior to ANH and ESB. Probably because I have such fond memories of being a sophomore in High School, ditching school the day it opened and being first in line in CA. Seeing the line wrap around the block and go as far as the eye can see was something. The duel with Vader ruled and the symbolism with the whole unmasking left a lasting impression on me. (mean old Vader really being just a gentle old man inside) Monsters aren't always what they seem. I actually like the Ewoks. People ask how could these little furry things beat the big bad Empire. Simply put, the Empire was not prepared for fighting of a primitive nature and the Ewoks were fighting for their basic survival. The thing that ruined the Ewoks in my view is the follow up movies and cartoon series. They made them pretty lame but as far as Jedi goes, it worked for me.

i agree with the cheesy love makes the AOTC went abit out of whack and the anakin kid shot the space station gave me really cheap impression. GL had had to make this anakin character powerful, full of hatred blah blah blah to accordance with his story. i felt he's forcing it to really hard to follow up the OTs. see how things go really fast with anakin fall in love with this senator. it has to happen. so like in Ep III has to give birth and yoda and obi wan has to flee away, gonna make a big scene chasing out all the jedis i guess. very much predictable. or is it becasue we all already knew the story.

and if i may add. remember the old james bond movies compare to new pierce's movies i'd prefer old sean and roger's movies. they had better plots and feeling to it. new JBs are like kool gadgets, special CGI effects and sexy chics but just doesnt make me want to watch again and again. the lines in old movies are so memorable. this is the feeling i'm having with new episodes, i dont want to feel like watching AOTC again if i did i'd FF the stupid love scenes and some playing in the green pastures. well, Ep I was ok, i think liam neeson was as good as Sir McGuinness in portraying wise jedis. again, this young anakin ruins the feeling. how could this 10 year old kid was given luck to blow up the super space station just to make him feel 'the force is strong with him' thing. I'M 100% ORIGINAL TRILOGY SUPPORTER. new ones have fancy CGI effects however the plot sux and directing sux with this anakin and senator part. senator is hell too sexy like james bonds' chicks. i still cant believe the space ships in I and II are seemed far better design, sleeker and looks so newer, GL should stick to the plan of all space ships look like they've been used for years old and bashed. now, who didnt like A, B, X, Y Wings? or AT ATs? they all looked so bashed up and worn out but that gave the natural feeling.

20 years of Empire rule, no wonder the Rebel ships and shit all look beet up. They had to get what they could from all over the Galaxy. Piecing things together, scraping what they could just to build up some sort of fleet!

I think anyway!!

Mr Lucas has looked at the original designs of the spaceships from the OT, to help him design the new ep3 ships.
If it wasn't George doing this, then it was someone pretty high up in the Lucasfilm ladder! They are really gonna tie the PT and the OT with this film.
I'm just afraid that it's gonna be like TPM. As in, getting so exicted I nearly wet myself at seeing the trailer on UK TV for he first time, only to be so fucking dissapointed at seeinf the final result.
Repeat viewings didn't help much.
It was only till I got TPM on Video that I started to quit like it.
There was nothing like buying it on its fisrt day of release getting home and rolling a big fat joint. Then settling down to wacth the first new Star Wars film in years!!

I really started liking TPM, and the last 45mins were trully amazing!

AS for AOTC, you see I wasn't now expecting a sequel/prequel to the OT. No, I was expecting a sequel to TPM. I knew what to expect in terms of special effects and the way it was all filmed an' shit!

As with AOTC, for TPM me and a few of my mates all took the day off work just to go and see the films on there first showing.
Half expecting the queus to be massive, But only to find that us and a few of the super nerd squad were watching the films.

So much better having an empty cinema, than to have a place full of popcrn eating, sweet unwrapping noisey bunch of twats.

So yeah I liked AOTC alot more coming out of the cinema than I did TPM.
Man, after wacthing TPM for the first time I was so gutted.
Really, once we left the cinema we all went straight to our local pup. There it turns out that alot more people I know also took the day off to go and watch it. Actually, now I think about it, we met outside the cinema by chance. Then all sat together watching it!!
And I could tell after the first scene with dialog, that I wasn't ging to like it very much, and be very, very dissapointed.
Which I was
So I sat in the pub feeling so pissed off.
So pissed off!!

Come on admit it! How many of you were a little dissapointed the first time you saw TPM????

And as for James Bond nrg I totally agree.

I used to love the old Bond films, but especially Roger Moore'. He was the Bond that I grew up with.
I mean man, The spy who loved me was out the same year as Star Wars..
I think that year was the year that I fell in love with Cinema.
Ever sinse then I just love watching films!!!
And I do have a life.............And great sex.................with my girlfriend!

But with the new Bond films, and When I say new Bond films I mean the last 4.
It seems that all they do is think of a great stunt. Whatever it is, either jumping out of a building, or drive a fucking BOAT through the streets of London.
Seriously, someone tell me. How the fuck could he stear that boat around corners an' shit.
It's a fucking boat for Christs sake.

Point is it seems that all they do is think of great stunts and try to make a story out of and around it!!!

When TPM started in the USA for us in Germany it was still a few weeks to wait til the film sould start in our country. By chance I had to go for a four weeks visit to Cold Spring Harbour near New York right at this time. When I reached NY the first thing I did was buying a ticket for TPM. I sat in the movie and was so excited. I still believed all the bad rumours about the movie that had already reached germany wouldn’t be true. But I was wrong.
I didn’t like the child hero that blasted a space station. I didn’t like jar-jar. I didn’t like the flying guy anakin had to work for and I didn’t like the much to long pod-race. (It has been done much better and more tensious with less FX in Ben Hur.) And I didn’t like the Princess Amidala-doppelganger story. This was unnecessary rubbish.
There were three things I liked: Liam Neeson as the wise jedi. Darth Maul as the villain. The Space ships. As we all know, two of these good things did leave the stage at the end of the film. What kind of waste!!!
After the film I felt tired an disillusioned. I didn’t watch the film a second time and I have seen the classic films more than 15 times on the big screen and many more times on the tv screen. I didn’t buy the DVD and I think I will never do.

When ROTC started I was not enthusastic about the prequels any more. I went to the cinema and watched it. It was ok, not good but ok. Like many other films. I didn’t like the love scenes. I didn’t like the arena scenes (Too much CGI. And far to many Jedis needed to solve such a small conflict!!) I liked the sandpeople scenes. But the Wrath of Anakin was not well performed by Hayden and then forgotten for the rest of the film. I liked Chris Lee as the villain but I hated Yoda, Yoda the wise, jumping around like a rubber ball. (This scene did kill the movie at last.)

It took me years to understand what Lukas wants. He didn’t do these films for the old fans. He did them mainly for new fans. The kids of a friend of mine, they are more than enthusiastic about these movies. They really love them. But they are 5 and 7 years old. I can not imagine them having any more enthusiastic feelings for these films when they are grown up.

Sad!

And for JB.

For me “The Spy who loved me” was one of my first cinema experiences beside films like Godzilla, Tarzan and old german films that were shown regularily in special performances for school kids.

I loved this film. In the following years I watched all bond movies on the big screen. My favorite bond was Sean. But I also liked the other ones (I only had problems with “Licence to kill” for the total lack of humour in this movie. I even liked Brosnan in Golden eye but this was the beginning of the end. More FX, more stunts, less story, less character and (what I find worst) worse villains. Bonds ex-colleague in Golden Eye and the sowjet general ended the long line of prime villains. Famke Jannsen, the chick with the killer legs in golden eye ended the long line of impressive henchmen. Sorry, I can’t remeber any of the villains from the following films. They were all more or less replaceable. Nothing special about them.

The death of James Bond was the last film. James Bond always had cool gimmicks. In most cases they were at least imaginable to be based on something true, some new technique etc. But a car that can get invisible. And this after such a fulminant starting sequence at the korean border that made me hope for a good JB-movie. Gosh. I nearly vomitted.

I think The Phantom Menace is one of the worst films made in the last 10 years. If it wasn't a Star Wars film it would have absolutely bombed in the movie theater.

Attack of the Clones is far better, but still leagues behind the original trilogy quality wise.

And to the original poster: nrg_2000

What do you mean Anakin shouldn't show love and tenderness to go along??? THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE PREQUELS!
The core of the movies are about how a normal person can grow up to be evil!

Personally I think the prequels lack pretty much all the qualities besides action that made people fall in love with the Original Trilogy. Acting is poor, the scripts are TERRIBLE, the story is all over the place, they're far too childish, etc.. etc... The only good qualities I can think of for the prequels are the action scenes. But what good is an awesome action scene if you couldn't care less about the individuals involved?

Attack of the Clones is by far the best Star Wars movie. In fact its my favorite movie period. No movie could combine brilliant story-telling and awsome action together in such a seemless way. Plus Natalie Portman is so sexy. Only a child could possibly like Return of the Jedi more then Attack of the Clones.

I know it's your opinion Jimbo....

But..

How can you say AOTC is the best of the bunch.
Brilliant story telling and actionin a seemless way?!?...Huh!?!??!
Thats whats wronf with 1 and 2...They just don'y flow like the OT. The way the story unfolds with the OT is part of what makes it so apealling and watchable, again and again..Especially ESB!! Which happens to be MY fave film of all time!

Thats my opinion, and your is yours..thats fair enough...

But man, I've loved Star Wars sinse I was 6...Grew up with, I even can't imagine my life without it..(man that sounds soooo sad), but if I'm totally honest. I'm a little gutted with what they've done with the PT so far.
Don't get me wrong, I like thaem..Man it's SW for Christ' sake, I'm just a little gutted thats all!!!

jimbo, not to be mean or anything, but how old are you? How many films have you actually seen? I'm curious as to what criteria you base the quality of films on.

While AOTC was a vast improvement over TPM, it still had a long way to go to even come close to the original trilogy. I think the story is a jumbled mish-mash of confusing plot threads (wtf is Sifo Dyas???; was that supposed to be Dooku? What was the whole Clone Wars about? What exactly do the Separatists want?) None of this stuff is even remotely explained. I know, I know, it will all be clear in Episode III... sorry, but I didn't just come in from the moisture farm.

The story-telling in AOTC is not brilliant. The action is well choreographed, but seems more technical fluff and a chance to showcase the talents of ILM rather than helping to move the storyline forward. Yes, Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, but that doesn't save her from the dreadful dialogue she had to recite. As good an actress as she is, she cannot do the impossible, same with the talented Hayden Christensen.

If Lucas pulls off the miracle and makes Episode III the kick-ass perfect Star Wars movie that we all hope and dream that it might be, then I will happily eat my crow at days end. I want to like Episode III, I really do, but TPM and AOTC have been very disappointing.

Call me a child if you want, but Jedi is still superior in my book (despite its many faults) to AOTC.

i'm quite impressed by alot of you sharing your opinion and views of the new Eps I and II. personally everytime i watch OT they really entertain me but new Eps are just pretty people with boring story concluding with action-filled last 30 mins do not give me just the same feeling as watching the old OT. we'll wait and see Ep III but i think GL would just push the story to fit with both Ep II and IV. it'd be too much to cram in a short time with overdone clone wars scene where obiwan and darth fight with clones vs. federation. u can't beat the actings of old harrison ford, some ordinary US boy mark hamil and other cast and crews. even our old lovely golden C3PO do not play a big part aside from CGI R2. CGIs do not impress me especially those crab looking and hippo looking creatures nowhere compare to old wampa and other creatures alike in OT. surely the new Eps are kid's fav. look at jar jar, hes just a comedian. and say whatever u want but i like the old lightsaber sequences even tho jumpy power switching on scenes. and no new villian can beat our old darth vader, we all can hear that echo of his breathing, shiny black metal and that cape. ... well i rest my case for now

I hate the PT and love the OT. I'm not even bothering with EP III in the theater unless Lucas supports our cause here.

I am in the minority here, but I actually favor TPM over AOTC. In spite of its ecessive chessiness, TPM felt like a Star Wars film. It actually reminded me of ROTJ because of the 3 part climax.

AOTC had too many problems for me to enjoy it. The cheesy love story really just about put me to sleep. I know Star Wars has always borrowed from other works. Hope is actually heavily inspired by Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. However, it looks like Lucas borrowed from Fifth Element, Blade Runner, and Gladiator. The stuff on Curoscant reminded me of an overcrowded version of Blade Runner, and the chase there reminded me of Fifth Element. The ending with Anakin, Padme, and Obi-Wan tied to the columns and fighting the monsters, reminded me a lot of a twisted version Gladiator only not as exciting.

The part with 3PO having his head switched with a Battle Droid and so forth was so stupid. It wouldn't have been so bad if they wouldn't have carried on with it so long. That part made the Jar Jar Binks annoyances in TPM seem trite. It also seemed that every last alien character was 100% CGI. What happened to the art of makeup effects? Also, the Yoda duel really did not impress me. That scene reminded me of Sonic The Hedgehog.

I believe the PT suffers from the ability to do anything technical wise for one. Back during the OT, they had to come up with ways to get around the technological barriers and it actually seemed they focused on the story and characters a lot more instead of the effects. Now, they can do anything with effects, so they overload the films with them.

The main thing the PT suffers from though is that it appears Lucas didn't remember what he wrote in the OT. It seems that he is twisting the OT to fit around the PT instead of the other way around, if that makes sense. It would have been better if Lucas had seriously worked on these films all along instead of lying about it all these years.

I keep hearing Ep. III is going to tie the PT to the OT very nicely. Well, if the rumors are true about a TV miniseries to occur between III and IV, it doesn't seem like it is going to wrap things up as well as everyone says. That's all speculation though. I can't really see them doing a TV miniseries.

Sorry these thoughts are random, but it is early in the morning.

I don't hate the PT as much as I am just profoundly disappointed by it. So many missed opportunities and only occasional glimpses or what was captured in the OT. Yes, I love Star Wars and was one of the fortunate kids to have grown up with it, but that did not make me so biased that I refused to even give the prequels a chance. On the contrary, I wanted it to succeed and was one of those who went into the theater to see the TPM trailer, and then left. I thought it was a brilliant trailer and I had a lump in my throat at the end of it. I was so looking forward to it. What I saw was a very lackluster drama full of inconsistencies and plot holes with tons and tons of CGI thrown on top to cover it up and distract. Do we really need fart and burp jokes?

I agree Patrick, somewhere along the way during his 20+ years away from the director's chair, Lucas forgot the edge that made the OT, particularly ANH and ESB so powerful. He started softening things up with ROTJ with the Ewoks, then continued to cut the gnads off with the Special Editions; now the circle is coming complete as the PT is more of "his vision" and if you ask him, he almost assuredly will say he loves the PT more than the OT.

Don't worry, I will be in line at midnight come May, 2005. It's the last Star Wars, for better or worse and must continue the tradition. Some of the stuff that has filtered out looks very good. We can only hope.

It is good to leave unanswered questions. Thats what Episode 3 is for. All questions will be answered there. The story telling couldn't be more brilliant. The story of attraction at the brink of war. The story of how the sith set them all up. Such a complex story with so many layers. One of those movies that requires multiple viewings to get it all in. Haydens moments of childish behavior were not bad acting they were great visions of how such behavior can lead to ultimate disaster. A very great lesson who hasn't acted childish. Overall Hayden was great in his role still my sister likes him more then me. Besides being extremly sexy Natalie Portmans role as the girl torn between duty and attraction was also brilliant. Did I mention shes very sexy. I also thought making Jar Jar the one who gives away the power was brilliant. His role here was much smaller and much more signifigant. The action was great but not just an effects show. It helped move the story. It had everything you can possibly fit in an action scene. Hundreds of Jedi, monsters, droids, clones, tanks, space ships, aliens, lasers, a hottie, everything a Star Wars movie action sequence can have. Also who can forget Yoda showing why he is the Jedi master. My favorite moment in the whole Star Wars saga. Just seeing Yoda kick ass is worth the price of addmission. Attack of the Clones is a perfect masterpiece. Good in every possible way.
