Super Mario World was criticized for not pushing it much farther than its universally renowned predecessor, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Miyamoto states that he wishes he'd gotten to do more with it... that he felt rushed, and that it wasn't as good a game as he thought it could have been.

Wow, I remember dying for an SNES and Super Mario World after several of my friends got theirs and I was still stuck with the NES my parents had bought for me and my sister a few years before. We had bought Super Mario Bros. 3 when it first came out and we had beat it several times already (I can still remember the first time we beat Bowser on SMB3). To me SMW was a whole new level of gaming. I could hardly believe the vast world and the fantastic detail of the graphic. From the beginning I never saw that game as anything short of amazing. SMW2: Yoshi's Island on the other hand is far too annoying of a game to be worth playing at all IMHO. Super Mario 64 for me was SMW all over again, nothing short of amazing.
