Well for that scene the mix was rebuilt from the ground up. Only the original center channel remains from the 2004 5.1 mix. I used the soundtrack Cd for the music. I was also able to enhance the soundtrack CD by using the 24-bit crystalizer that is part of the mixer of my X-FI fatality soundcard. I had to record the whole soundtrack by using "what you hear" because unfortunately it can only be used for listening to the audio and not able to use it as a filter on existing tracks but it has given it a slight sparkle to the mix. Most people probably won't even be able to hear the difference. To give the music a little more clarity i also overlayed the score to the original DVD mix L&R channels at a low volume with high frequencies enhanced by the equalizer.
Is this on my clip? can you explain a little more?
Well its all going great at the moment. Only a few shots left now. I've just finished all the hologram shots for the rebel control room table during the battle that had plagued me for months. They all just suddenly fell into place after having the X-mas break so i'm well chuffed. If all goes according to plan you should see the XVID & DVD-5 barebones appear within the next couple of weeks with the DVD-9 & the NTSC versions appearing a few weeks after (if not sooner)
Happy New year

Well, as you can tell, I have reaaaallly sensitive ears. I can hear the changes you made in the clarity. Being an instrumentalist and being both an audio-phile and williams enthusiast, I could tell IMMEDIATELY how much clearer this was. I've been trying to do it myself... and yes, I'm very familiar with the "record as you go" method hehe...
I might have to test my sound cards abilits for that too although there is a slight loss through the analog ... oh well.
Anyways, What I meant about the warble isn't really like... profound... but there are certain moments where certain pitches don't seem right...
Like after the string shuffle... at about 4 seconds, the pitch is almost a half step off..
wait...
Hang on...
Are these clips in NTSC or PAL? If it's in PAL than that explains the difference.
And out of curiosity, do you guys have the Lucas Sound Effects Library?
I really like the edits your doing, but I think they could be tweaked just slightly more.
Like, the opening to the Mos Eisley is great and all, but after the speeder speeds away, all that's left is music. If they're entering a huge city, you should be hearing more than just the non-digetic music... hell, you could put some of the Episode I digetic music in, or even just put some city sfx crowd noises, things of that nature.
Also, you mentioned this is in 5.1, this is obviously a down mix right? Will the 5.1 have a bit more sfx work in it?
I'm curious becuase I have the Lucas SFX library and I also have a rather large library of Star Wars SFX and if they could be put to use, I'd be more than willing to do what I can to help an extrememly worthy project.
edit:
You know, there is one cut I don't like...
As the troopers pass by the table with Han and Chewie, it cuts to chewie, and then Han gives his little talk about needing that money.
Then you cut to them running outside, and then it cuts back inside.
I wonder if it wouldn't be better to place the cut after the cut to chewie, but before Han talks?
Sort of have the troopers pass by, cut to Chewie looking at them, wipe to Luke and Obi-Wan outside talking about selling the speeder.
Then cut to Han telling chewie to get the ship ready or something... I guess that would still be awkward. It's kinda hard to say. Maybe you could insert a shot and then cut to them talking, or even cut them talking at all... just jump to Han leaving and running into Greedo... the fact that he needs the money isn't something he has to state since it becomes obvious in the next moment...
