I have a couple extra copies of the Heavy Metal Illustrated Alien book. I might be willing to butcher one for sake of the project to scan for preservation "hint, hint".

Hello! Does anyone has an update on the project? I've just recorded a 60 second tv spot for Aliens from TV1000. It's interesting since it is advertised as the winner of 2 academy awards and it has graphics that mimic Aliens logo. Have a nice holidays!

Hey guys. I'm new to this site, and to this whole preservation/fan edit thing, but I'm finding it very interesting. Can someone help me out with finding copies of these Alien Appendix discs? I'm also interested in the Spinal Tap Omnibus project. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys! Any news on new Appendix disc? Maybe this will put us into the gear... I just got hold of a Betacam sourced 22 minute documentary "Aliens vs Predator: Dissected". Surprisingly it concentrated mostly (70-80%) on alien and predator franchises then AVP 2 itself. There are many short vintage behind the scenes and interview segments that are recycled from previous materials, but some I didn't recognise from the first glance. Anyhow, I think it would be a nice edition to our Appendix discs. I also got Directv Aliens Spoof Ad in better quality then the one on youtube (it's flv file, though).

Hi TB, happy new year!

Ok, here's where we are. Meedermow and I started assembling the materials for AA4 (the 'Aliens' disc) back in august, but a combination of frustrating problems and real-life commitments meant that it got re-shelved again. Sorry, but that's the way it sometimes has to go with these things!

Anyway, I see it's been nearly a year since we brought out AA3, so I guess we're a little behind schedule... let's get moving again. I see you (TB) have found some more Aliens-related rarities in the meantime, so the delay might well have been beneficial! We'll talk about getting everything together, and then make a final push to get disc 4 out some time in feb.

By the way, I hope this doesn't seem too reactionary, but I for one don't have any interest in including AvP material in this project. These films have reduced the Aliens concept to a fairly mindless level of entertainment, and while they are still being produced, we're not going to get another Alien-themed movie with an ounce of the creativity and intelligence of the original trilogy. I just don't see that as a cause for celebration, I'm afraid.

I agree no AVP stuff.

I'll have to also check to see if I have any other video clips.

I do consider the AVP franchise to be entirely separate to the Alien films. However, if there's material to warrant a disc of supplements for the two of those films, I'd be interested in helping put it together. It wouldn't have to be part of the AA series though.

Yes, it looks like from the descriptions that it'll be a heck of a watch. It's pretty amazing how much supplemental material is out there. It's really cool that there's a place like this to gather it all and folks to put it all together.

Can anyone please seed Alien Redux as I'm dying to get my hands on it. Thanks.

I've just got a general question about supplemental Alien-franchise material and this seemed like the best place to ask it.

In the original version of the documentary on the bonus disc for Alien3 included in the Quadrilogy box, there was about a half hour's worth of footage that illustrated David Fincher's frustration with the project using video footage shot during production. This was all removed prior to the official release. Is any of that stuff circulating?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I don't think it was ever released. According to the review on TheDigitalBits.com, Bill Hunt mentions that FOX thought they were being perceived in a negative light, and cut the footage by an hour. There are apparently several sections of the documentary (most notably "Production: Part III") that were severely edited. The review mentions there's a cut BTS clip where Fincher is sitting in a chair, looks exasperated, then grabs a nearby microphone and makes a sly comment at the suits at FOX. If anyone knows about this, it would probably be Bill Hunt at that site.

I have some of the old workprint footage that wasn't put on the Assembly Cut, but I don't think it's all of it. I had gotten it off Youtube, but it's very small and not good quality. I also have some text articles as well, but I've been more focused on collecting information and video for a possible project.

I have a vhs copy of the A3 workprint. Quality is okay from what I remember. I got it back around its original release.

I've got a copy of the A3 workprint on DVD, but the footage of a frustrated Fincher really interested me. Damn. Thanks for the info, crazy.

Was all the material from the Alien box set released on LD preserved, I thought there was an extra commentary and some other stuff on there not on the new releases?

Hello Jonno & Meedermow! It's been quiet on Alien appendix front for a while now. I was wondering when we're getting back on the production track... Has anyone acquired new materials in the meantime? Any update on resurrected Alien war tour?

I have a couple small suggestions that may be completely lame.

1. I have a .pdf version of the wildly out-of-print Colonial Marines Technical Guide. Maybe that could be a DVD-Rom feature, ya know, cut into a slideshow with music from the film behind it.

2. There are a bunch of small "throwaway" pieces on the films that, as far as I'm aware, have never been collected. Sort of glimpses into the hype and response to the films. HBO First Look did pieces on Aliens, Alien: Resurrection, and AvP (boo). The Aliens one was floating around youtube for a little while, but got pulled and I haven't seen it since. I'm sure with a little looking one of us can dig it up again. It wasn't particularly jaw-dropping but had some interesting, presumably exclusive, interviews with the cast. There are also the Ebert and Siskel/Roeper bits on the films, which give an interesting look at the contemporary responses to them.

Aliens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_7C2_dsMpw&feature=related Siskel - "I'll admire it only at this level: good art direction." (the audio is pretty messed up on this.)

Alien 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz2NrZKwDjY&feature=related Ebert - "In some ways the most interesting movie."

Resurrection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS_RmuOTy9w Ebert - "The Alien series has finally run out of steam."

3. There's some clips on youtube of isolated music tracks from the Alien 3 video game. This might not be of much interest to some of you, but I remember playing that game all the time and the music is kind of an interesting thing. I'm not exactly sure how to go about it, but maybe someone could even rip the opening titles of the game, which were like an 8-bit recreation of the first five minutes of Alien 3. This is only really tangentially related to the movie, so I don't know how y'all will feel about it, but just an idea.

Also, there was a cancelled PS2 game called "Colonial Marines" (the upcoming PS3 one is unrelated). There's information floating on the web about it, and a set of stills and even a beta demo video on youtube.

AND (please don't kill me for focusing on video game nonsense and youtube videos, but it's a start) there's this great video on the internet of all the Alien-related video games back to back. It's a real cool look at how the franchise has changed (from stay alive to shoot em up) and how the look of the creatures has changed and how the technology has changed and blah blah blah

Colonial Marine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIeLGifENbI

Games back to back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIF76RXEp50

4. God, more youtube. But here's a wonderful 1979 commercial for that infamous 18 inch Kenner Alien. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKSv85mJEmY And one for the much more recent AvP toys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS13huJGCHI&feature=related

Anyway, that's my suggestions. Nothing to anchor the installment, but just a few ideas to get the ball rolling. These seem to all have in common is the cultural legacy of the series

The Alien action figure commercial is actually on one of the releases already.  I just forgot which one.

There is an Entertainment Tonight review of Aliens I provided that might be on a future edition.

I have a Super8mm version that runs 18 min that I hope can be included too.  I'm curious as to how it is edited to 18 min.
