Granted, it is a trivial change execution-wise, but there is very little justification for changing the original remark. In fact, there is MORE reason not to change it. The original wording is entirely consistent with Obi-wan's mindset and agenda at that juncture of the story.

I guess that depends on a certain point of view. For me, "I wanted your father to have this when you were old enough" makes more sence because Anikan makes no mention of wanting to do so in episode 3. Also, Anakin/Vader is lead to believe that his son died with Padme. It seems like lucas forgot that detail when he made episode 3.
