Wait I am wrong, sorry,Adywans's project will be first LOL.

While it is frustrating watching year after year go by with little or no updates, it is understandable....

I hear ya. Little bits are getting done here and there. but there's been no real "cool" thing to show. I mean, a lot of the spot removal I'm doing probably won't even be noticeable to most people (except for big spots or drop-outs), but examples of this were already shown. I guess I could find another scene with really bad spots and make a video.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if this project had begun now, would it have been easier to use the 2004 dvds, and color correct them, and use the X0 for all the missing shots?

I think I can take this one if you guys don't mind. No, because then you'd have an OCP-like effect where there's occasional footage shaking, and color oddities despite having been corrected.

That link should give you what you're looking for.

No, I am NOT plugging the Classic Edition (at least I think I'm not), but I'm telling him it's been done.

Speaking of the shaking/non-shaking footage in the CE release.

Is the XØ Project doing anything to stabilize the laserdisc footage or will it have the shake in it as well?

Actually, this is something I'd like to know too.

You know, since I have recreated the crawl, I had to study the original carefully (from the EoD documentary.) After I was done, I superimposed mine over the original, and because mine was so "smooth" compared to the original, it actually made it look fake, rather than film-like.

The other problem is, sometimes the "shake" is in the video - but the letterboxing remains the same - so if one were to align the shaking, you'd either have to crop a few lines of the movie, or suffer with the top/bottom edges wiggling around. I don't know if either solution is really acceptable.

Personally, if there was any scene that I would consider smoothing out, it would be "A long time ago....", because it wouldn't be affected by the letterboxing.

I asked the same question a while back. I was told (I think by Zion) that they have no interest in doing that.

I also started a thread a few months ago, asking if any other members of the forum here were working on a "hybrid" trilogy project (basically doing just what you said- using the unaltered and perhaps some mildly altered scenes from the '04 DVDs and combining them with the original shots from the '06 DVDs). There are a couple of members doing it, but I don't think they're anywhere near completion.

Here's the thread:

Would you happen to have any before/after screenshots hanging around? Are the shots you're working on from the Japanese special collection, THX definitive collection or both?

There should be a video on the website showing me fixing a segment. I don't recall if the video shows a before-and-after comparison (I can't check the site from work.) Maybe I can put one together.

And I am working on the Def. Col.

There's still part three of the color correction series yet to appear.

Well, Zion and our other member are working on new ways to correct color. It looks pretty cool in theory, but it's a very new procedure.

If I'm not mistaken OCP predicted that this project would die a death after Lucas released the OUT.

Looks like he might have been right.

Yeah, and I guess the brilliant OCP could also predict that if one of the important members of The XØ Project was fighting a life-threatening illness that progress might crawl for a while. Wow, OCP sure showed us, huh?

Those involved with The XØ Project are still here, while OCP's long gone. With the release of the GOUT, The XØ Project has demonstrated it is still relevant, while OCP's work is passe. I'd have to guess that the bar was upped by the release of the GOUT, and that it's now all the harder -- but also more worth it -- to do a good job improving on what's commonly available. There's also less time pressure to get something done before Lucasfilm does, since it doesn't look much like they're going to bother, period.

I'd like to see Laserman take care of himself above all else. Then I'd like to see The XØ Project live up to the sample frames posted. I'm young; I can wait.

My prediction: Regardless of what happens with The XØ Project, and regardless of when it happens, OCP will still be banned and his stuff will still be obsolete.

I know this is off topic, but I have to ask. What did OCP do to get banned? And he made Deleted Magic, right?

I guess I missed this stuff. Just wondering.
Author

It came out that he had been selling his edits and others', which is a big no-no here. Fan-edits are ultimately on shaky ground anyway, so this site prefers to stay under the radar and not profit, nor encourage profit from fan-edits and preservations. OCP was charging above the cost of materials to help pay his rent and other expenses (and cover supposed "bad burns"). After a reasonable warning, he persisted and was banned. At one point he even forbade the free dispersal of one edit until he had made enough of a profit on it (to help with a move, if I recall).

It didn't help that when the GOUT came out, he started ranting like an asshole that he'd wasted all this time on his Classic versions and started spamming threads and creating new facetious threads until he calmed down. That didn't endear him to the staff.

Ethical and social lapses aside, I didn't care for OCP's aesthetic choices on his 'Classic Editions'. He left too much SE stuff in, and the decision to combine PAL and NTSC sources was ill-considered.

However, Deleted Magic helped point the way for a lot of folks. And he deserves a ton of credit for the legwork he put in on the Thief and the Cobbler project.

Deleted Magic is what drew ME to this site. I found it somehow when I was researching for my own laserdisc transfer (which I promptly dropped once I discovered this site and the torrents).

Is he even still banned? His profile shows his last visit December 1, 2007. He's been gone for over a year, hasn't he?

That's too bad.

Deleted Magic was my first venture into this world of fan edits and preservations. Even though I had not yet seen it, I read about deleted magic on T-bone's SWU very long ago. It will always have a special place in my mind. Though that might change when JD finishes Star Wars Begins.

Anyways, I guess thats enough off topic. Thanks for filling me in.

I should clarify (even though this is the wrong thread -- sorry, guys) that I'm a big fan of Deleted Magic, and I think that project was excellent, excellent work.

It's the Classic Editions I was referring to that kinda got pwned by the GOUT.

A Happy New Year to everyone working on the X0 Project. I hope Laserman is feeling better.

Dittos... hope that 2008 sees a lot of progress made on this project, but most importantly that Laserman returns to 100% as quickly as possible.

All the best to you guys

Another ditto from me... hope Laserman is doing well, hope some progress happens (in that order of priority,) and that we might see a few screens of said hope progress.

I'd like to take this screencap from earlier in the thread, just so you don't have to go through 88 pages of... stuff... to see it.

Fixed.

This is an awesome shot, because it seems to have the JSC LD colors but with the GOUT'S relatively cleaner look (at least for that shot, not the speeder one.)

Hey, StrangeLove, have you considered letting us see the real, hi-res thing, or is it gone forever? Your ROTJ one was pretty good too.
