Sorry if I came across as unappreciative earlier. I wish ISPs would let people use Bittorrent, it is perfect in situations like this.

Could you upload the filefront? They seem like the best free host.

Isolated score track. Lack thereof on the official release was a major disappointment for me. You make me very very happy.

a better line up than the official stuff, so to speak. I can't wait to see the Spaceballs version of SW Revisited! (Although actually, if the joke trailer was what meant to be the Spaceballs version, then cool...it is well funny!!)

Let's be honest, the distribution of large files to many people, the vast majority of which is copyright material, is exactly the reason they don't let people use Bittorrent

I experimented a little and greatly improved DVD playback quality. I use the latest Media Player Classic, nVidia PureVideo mpeg2 decoder, and ffdshow for postprocessing (Blur&Noise reduction, upscale resize, with luminance and chroma sharpen, YV12 output). I had to tweak the settings a bit differently than suggested on the net, because my computer couldn't handle the load (but it came very close, very few frames dropped).

The improvement is huge! Your 'low quality' sample looks great. I can only imagine what the full quality video will look like

Just for the record, in case it helps anyone out, I used VLC with no problems at all.

I have no problem with VLC, it is a great player, invaluable for partial torrents downloads, and other tricky files. It is just that the combination I described above gives me the best possible DVD playback on my computer. In fact, I only use 2 players on my computer, MPC and VLC, there is no need for anything else.

That is an absolutely awesome double disc set. I'm more of a torrent man myself but as long as it's made really obvious how I can get my hands on this amazing piece of visual star wars sex then i'll be more than satisfied. We are eternally indebted to you!

Surely that's not to say that others can't set up a torrent once it begins to get around...

2 quick questions Ady,

Does Kenobi now say "I wanted you to have this when you were old enough." I was thinking you could get the "I" from I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father."

And did you remember to change rebel pilots helmet logos from blue to red during the medals ceremony at the end? There are some in the audience.

P.S. Also, Adywan, I was wondering -- are you keeping Obi-Wan's original lightsaber sound effects in the cantina?
I have tweaked the lightsaber sound FX slightly, but that was one of the unfinished elements in the clips posted. Amongst one of the tweaks I've added subwoofer channel FX for the sabers and its given them some great depth.

Oooh, that's what I was hoping to hear. Well done, sir.

That sounds like a truly amazing DVD set. I am (and have been for some time now) more excited about this release than pretty much any DVD release, commercial or otherwise, in quite a while! Your work continues to inspire. Congratulations again on everything you've accomplished!

Take care,

Is anyone looking forward to a scene that ADY has not showed us yet. I am looking forward to the Obi/ Vader Duel. I cannot wait. I think read somewhere on here that Battle of Heroes theme is played.

Here's what is most likely the first of many covers to come for Ady's edit. I believe Ady will be including a bunch of covers on the DVD release as well as creating an official cover himself, but for those who want something now, here's my creation:

http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/4563/swadypreviewmh0.jpg

I tried to keep an old school flair with the the extremely retro logo from the first teaser poster release. It is also region-neutral and will work for whatever version you prefer (PAL or NTSC).

The full-res version is here at megaupload (2.11 MB).

Like everyone else, I can't wait for the final release!

Does Kenobi now say "I wanted you to have this when you were old enough."

I have been following this thread with great interest and admiration; but I feel compelled to jump into the mix because of this particular modification.

Granted, it is a trivial change execution-wise, but there is very little justification for changing the original remark. In fact, there is MORE reason not to change it. The original wording is entirely consistent with Obi-wan's mindset and agenda at that juncture of the story.

I would like to argue that, "Your father wanted..." is contextually correct, logically correct, historically correct and requires no change.

It is easy to fall prey to "thinking too much" the more deeply you commit to a project, because you will inevitably become hyper-sensitive to details. I do not presume to know Adywan's mind, but I wonder if he needs to distance himself from the work for a short time. I often have to do this in my own writing and research projects. I am a perfectionist and I work intensely for long periods, but eventually I must put the work down and FORGET IT until my mind and imagination are refreshed again.

I guess what I am saying in my very first post at this forum is that this particular edit has all the markings of "thinking too much"--a phrase that my students like to use when they fear I am micro-analyzing or becoming too serious. Or am I being completely obtuse?

This notwithstanding, I am enthused about Adywan's project, and wish him all the best in his labor of love.

Happy holidays

Obi-Wan's line change to "Your father wanted you to have this" was one of the changes that was always intended from the very start of this project , so yes it is being changed to "I". And yes i remembered to change the blue helmet insignias.

Great cover Savage. If anyone else is doing a cover then i will need it within the next month if you want it included on the DVD

I guess that depends on a certain point of view. For me, "I wanted your father to have this when you were old enough" makes more sence because Anikan makes no mention of wanting to do so in episode 3. Also, Anakin/Vader is lead to believe that his son died with Padme. It seems like lucas forgot that detail when he made episode 3.

I personally believe that old Ben was being his normal sly self. I think Anakin would have wanted his son to have it. But under the circumstances, Ben just twisted words. He should have said "he 'WOULD' have wanted you to have this." But instead he twisted the facts once again for the benefit of the galaxy.
Author
Time
Exactly... Ben is spinning a tale for Luke's benefit. He's not going to say, "Before I severed your father's legs and left him for dead in the lava pit, he told me he wanted you to... no, actually, now that I think of it your father never said f**k-all about you as far as I can remember. Here, have it anyway." Almost everything Ben tells Luke about his father is fabrication, so there's no reason this line should be any different.

Original : "Your father wanted you to have this...."
Altered : "I wanted you to have this..."

I guess that depends on a certain point of view.

Yes, I agree that the question involves interpretation; but I am wondering if the situation was over-interpreted.

For example, the only point of view that is relevant is Obi-wan's; it is his remark. As I understand it, the altered version is supposed to fix something. But fix what? There is no contradiction, and no conflict with previous or subsequent episodes--including Episode III.

We already know that Obi-wan is selectively revealing information to Luke. Half-truths, lies, distortions... call them what you will.

Example : Vader betrayed and murdered your father.

No one would presume to edit that statement (at least I hope not), so why does it bother some fans that Obi-wan is also not accurately portraying events when he introduces the light saber? [In the very same scene, no less.] I am genuinely interested in the thinking behind this, partly because I am intimately familiar with the original trilogy (as a Gen X'er), have reviewed the pre-quels multiple times, and still don't see any problem. There are many things to fix, to be sure, but I don't think this scene's dialog is flawed at all.

What might be flawed is the assumption that the statement no longer works in light of Episode III. I think that the original dialog continues to be entirely CONGRUENT. Does anyone else not see this?

Now that I am thoroughly fascinated, is there an explanation for this change that I could read? I don't recall seeing anything definitive or specific when I began browsing this thread last month.

Thanks in advance.

@ sunday and ron

Indeed. In fact, there is clear motive and logic in that scene: Obi-wan wants to encourage and entice Luke, so there is design in what he says and does not say. It is true that their meeting was not scheduled, and it is also the case that this sequence occurs before the message reveal, but we can (should) assume--with very little effort--that Obi-wan had already prepared for this day.

The line "your father wanted you to have this.." no longer works since Episode III, which is entirely Lucas' fault, but does need to be addressed. Changing the line from "your father.." to "I.." not only fixes the problem the PT caused but also it helps to demonstrate that Ben was keeping an eye on Luke because it is he that wants him to train as a Jedi , which is why he gave him the saber. It also demonstrates the level of animosity that Owen feels for Ben now that is he that wants Luke to have the saber, whereas the original line could have made Luke resentful of his Uncle for not letting him have something that his father wanted him to have when he grew up.
In order for the PT & OT to fit together properly this line needs to change to "I.." along with some changes Luke & Leia's conversation in ROTJ about their mother. 2 huge continuity errors that were caused only by the prequels( didn't Lucas even know his own films???) but the first is easier to fix in the OT than the PT, but other problems can be fixed in the PT when i finally get around to them.

In my edit it occurs after the message and the whole conversation about his father and the force is now joined. The line change is one thing i won't be swayed against, i'm afraid.

The "Vader betrayed and murdered your Father.." line still works perfectly and doesn't need to be changed. that was explained in ROTJ and can be further explained by the fact that Obi-Wan & Yoda both new that one day Luke would confront Vader and their thinking was that knowing the true identity of the person that he was facing in battle, and would ultimately have to kill, would have given Vader a huge advantage

Ultimately my edit is going to cover all 6 films and as i said in my first post this edit came about so you can watch all 6 films in episode order without seeing all the problems with the OT caused by the PT.

Now for a quick update on the progress of the edit....

The audio is complete up to the first Trench run (with a few minor bit here and there throughout left to do). There was hell of a lot of sound-FX work to do for the extra sequence. So far i am working with 156 seperate audio tracks to get the right mix, but this is likely to grow. I'm only going to work on it for another week and then i am having a break until after Christmas so i can concentrate on more important matters (and have my long holiday away from this edit in the 18 months+ that i have been working on it). I haven't done any more work on the video because the few shots i had left just weren't working so a break from that was needed so i can iron out a few of the problems.
