I just thought the inside was red, the outside black, It doesn't really matter so much to me though.

Jeditemple, the program is asking for part3 which leads me to suspect you still don't have part 3 downloaded. Check you have all three parts before extracting the file. As Ady says, you should have a 250mb MPG file sitting wherever you ask the program to extract to. Hopefully you'll have resolved this by now, but if not, make sure you have three individual parts downloaded and not one of one and two of another...it won't allow you to extract that way.

Teharri, be patient. Ady will announce when and where to get a copy when he is done. Asking for info like this all the time won't speed up when and where it will be distributed to.

I do not mean to sound impatient and in no way want him to hurry up or anything. I just want to be ready for it when it comes out. For all I know he is putting online with some sort of program I don't know how to use. Sorry if it sounds any other way.

I finally got home to watch this early present.

Adywan, this is just great, even at 2000 kb/s (that is for video only, isn't it?). At 6000 kb/s it will probably look amazing. The overall color correction is good! But what really stands out is the quality of the sound. It pops! The cantina music has an ambiance effect and can be clearly heard.

I personally like the trooper getting off a dewback. It is done really well, and fits into the scene. Also, slowly approaching Alderan is also excellent! Cantina creatures are perfect, especially Greedo. Now I really can't wait for the finished movie.

One technical question though. When I put 'original size' in Media Player Classic (or any other player), the video is quite noticeably bigger than half of my 1440px wide LCD. It looks like 1000px wide and 430px high (I made a screen shot and looked at the properties), although I know from the properties that the resolution of the file is 720x576. Shouldn't it the the original size on the screen be 720px wide? I still don't have all these thing quite worked out.

1000 x 430 is ratio 2,35:1, that is OK, but shouldn't the the resolution of the visible video (minus black bars at the top and bottom) be 720x306?

It's aspect-coded, and the non-letterboxed portion of the video is 1024x432, upscaled from 720x432 in the vob.

Originally, Vader's eyes were red, that's obvious from the original prop and watching the unaltered ANH. The Vader suit changes from movie to movie, it's different in every single one. You can explain that as Vader getting his suit adjusted, or you can ignore it and pretend it's always supposed to be identical.

adywan made a creative decision. I personally prefer the red eyes, as it looks scary and it makes them more visible against the black mask in a dark scene. I don't see the need to modify the Vader suit to be more like any of the other movies. It only matters that it looks consistent from shot to shot in the same movie. But, I'm not the one making it... I took the "red computer readouts" in the Episode 3 suit as a nod to the fact that the eyes were red in the original film.

Most of the decisions he's made I agree with or at least consider them better than what Lucas decided. This isn't the original movie, it's a "Special Edition" so I'm not worried about losing the real movie just because this comes out.

I do long for the day when somebody releases an honest to goodness "restoration" of the original theatrical trilogy!

Just caught up with your thread Adywan.

WOW! What a talent you are. I love what you've done! The R2 change at DB94 was inspired. The effects, brilliant! Loved the removal of Ben's back from behind Han too!

Subtle, inspired brilliance. I don't know how else to express my thoughts. Just awesome!

Maybe we can call the red R2 Unit R2-AD1

I'd say that would work!

Well done, sir! I like that a lot. I hadn't thought of Adywan's name like that, but it fits perfectly!

Take care,
Sojourn

P.S. Also, Adywan, I was wondering -- are you keeping Obi-Wan's original lightsaber sound effects in the cantina?

The dewback, from which the trooper steps down, has some strange colors on it's head. But than also the R2 unit, that passes the scene when Kenobi and Luke are stoped by the troopers, has a green stripe not red as everyone says. So what could be causing these two problems? The rest looks OK color-wise.

BTW, I like Vader's black eyes. My way of looking at this is, in SW3 when they put his mask on, the inside of the eyes looks red, and that is what his vision is going to be, but from the outside it is pure glossy black! It is intentionaly semi-transparent. You cannot see inside but he can see you.

OK, I understand the 432px: PAL DVD is 720x576 in 16:9 aspect ratio. 2,35:1 AR of the same DVD is then 720x432. But why 1024x432, why the upscaling, if I set 'original size' in my player?

Wait a minute......... 1024/1,78 (16:9) = 576. So why does it say PAL DVD 720x576, 16:9 AR , when the 16:9 would be either 1024x576 or 720x404? Is it 720x576 minus the black bars, or is it 576 pure vertical resolution and they somehowe interpolate to get from 720 to 1024?

Most DVD Players that I have seen expand for aspect ratio instead of contract. Meaning you have 853x480 for widescreen NTSC and 1024x576 for widescreen PAL.

At 10:43 on Adywan's clip, or 51:03 on your PAL OOT. In the take used of Han sitting at the helm of the Falcon, just as they blast their way out of Mos Eisley, you can see Ben walking down the doorway behind him. it was clearly a shot meant for later in the film after he instructs them to go and strap themselves in.

As I said, there are many subtle changes.

Ok, I've noticed also the red R2 (strange I haven't notice it before), so the green R2 is probably instead of passing Ronto.

And the dewback had the shadow on it's head in the SE edition, I guess I haven't noticed that either.

yes, very subtle, thanks JD..and the R2-AD1 "adding" in place of R2, what a great idea, simple, subtle. bravo adywan.

can someone upload this to usenet?

Ady why don't you just torrent your stuff? That would probably be a lot easier then using these dumb file hosts. That or use wuala.

Funny,

The vast majority of the members of this thread haven't had any problems with these "dumb file host" sites in the last year and a half that this thread has been active. Only very recent newcomers seem to be having trouble...

Hearing all of this negativity towards Adywan's efforts to make available to us footage he could just as easily keep to himself for eternity really raises my ire. Grow up and be respectful in your requests.

I can't use torrents as my ISP blocks torrent use (well slows it down to a crawl anyway). It's just easier for me to post them to file hosting sites, although after the last experience i'm not so sure.

Anyway, i've really cracked on with the editing (audio) and i have got a lot done.

I have tweaked the lightsaber sound FX slightly, but that was one of the unfinished elements in the clips posted. Amongst one of the tweaks I've added subwoofer channel FX for the sabers and its given them some great depth.

I've started planning the layout of the DVD and these are the most likely specs:

Disc 1
5.1 AC3 English audio track
5.1 isolated score track
Animated interactive menus
English subtitles
Chapter selection
Language selection menu
Easter eggs

Disc 2 ( to be released a few months after disc 1)
Star wars Revisited "Spaceballs" version
Trailers
Deleted scenes
The making of the Star Wars saga (a new documentary spanning from the making of ANH right up to behind the scenes of "revisited"
FX comparisons
& more

Both the PAL & NTSC versions will be identical

ANH:REVISITED
ESB:REVISITED

Methinks most people haven't used those file hosts before. I guess some torrenters are spoiled.

At least I learned something new about Megaupload.

That sounds like a fantastic line up for release!!!!! I am soooo excited, especially after this last round of clips! I really appreciate the attention to detail that you have given Star Wars.....it deserves it
