THE BEATLES "Let It Be"

I want to see the director Michael Lindsay-Hogg's first cut of "Let It Be" when it was still titled "Get Back"! So much film was shot for this documentary, and yet it's way to short as released. The original T.V. cut was said to be about 2 1/2 hours, and I would like to see them release a video box set of that version with ALL of the un-edited footage they still have in the vaults. That fight of George and Paul during the released film, (when they had been working on "Two of Us") is a real hack job, and it changes the way it truly happened. It makes it look like it was Paul that made George mad and want quit the group a few days later, but that's not true. George was having BIG problems with John at the time {Over John's hard drug use, Yoko, his withdrawing from talking with the band and his negative attitude to George' s new songs} , and the film as released does not show any of this. If this film was shown without being so cut up, people would see how Paul was fighting to keep the band together.

The film was edited in the summer, as The Beatles were back in the studio working on Abbey Road, Lindsay-Hogg recalls. "We did a rough cut and screened it for them, the same day Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, whenever that was.

"It was a much longer cut originally. There was an hour more. There was much more stuff of John and Yoko, and the other three didn't really think that was appropriate because they wanted to make it a 'nicer' movie. They didn't want to have a lot of the dirty laundry, so a lot of it was cut down. So then we ended up with an hour and a half."
