RRS-1980 reports after The Force.Net:

BIG NEWS: Classic SW DVD Details
Fri, Jan 23, 04 01:29:26 AM EST

We're hearing rumblings this week about the Classic Trilogy DVDs coming next fall. Here's some details floating around the net these days:
In November 2004 we'll see the Original Trilogy on DVD! There probably won't be any added scenes, simply the 3 Special Edition films along with with a bonus 4th disk. Basically they're going to take the Indy trilogy to use as a model.
Also included will be Episode 3 teaser material!

The Indy boxed set just became the best selling boxed set ever. They expect SW to take that title, later this year. No news of any 6 DVD boxed sets or the classic versions of the film.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

When I first built this site, I didn't feel a lot of animosity toward Lucas. I thought maybe we could appeal to his sense of artistic integrity, remaining polite but firm in our desire to have the original theatrical cuts on DVD.

Lately, I've come to feel that Lucas has turned into a complete tool. I watched Episode I and II last week after not having seen them for some time, and I realized something.

They're not that good.

I'm not sure there's much of the original artist left in Lucas...no one with whom to reason.

I sold my LD player but kept my THX Faces trilogy so I could feel justified in purchasing a DVD backup somewhere on the web. Sadly, it looks like I might actually have to go through with that purchase.

It leaves me wondering what the future of the site is at this point.

jay, i THINK i speak for everyone when i write this (if not, then sorry for including you in this little rant):

Our hearts are with you, and like you and the 45,000+ people that have signed this petition, we would love to see the Classic Trilogy released on DVD. We are still in the fight, we are not beaten, we are losing but i hear no fat lady singing...

As for this site; it still has a future in my book. Just look at all the friendships that have been made through this site. People are even sending each other books... True, no one has called me or written to me, but still, I am a believer. Imagine Central Perk being torn down, where would Phoebe, Monica, Rachel, Joey, Chandler and Ross meet to talk about current events of their lives. This is our Central Perk, this is our hang out place...

I hope this covers it, and that it'll lift your spirits a bit, that's what it's supposed to do anyways...

1. Not going to purchase. I'm going to make mine.
My menus. My extras.

2. I'm with Motti. In the immortal words of former Cleveland Mayor Michael White "It Ain't Over." (Context: Concerning the move of the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore to become what is now the Ravens)

This petition exists to (hopefully) get Lucas to release the original movies on DVD.
This petition, at least in my mind, wasn't to make sure the original movives were the first released.

I just stopped by dvd.ign.com, and found this on their "Our Most Anticipated DVDs of 2004" page.

The Star Wars Trilogy
Publisher: Fox/LucasFilm
Publication Date: September is the rumored month

The Pitch: Finally, after a long, long time…

Why it's Going to Rock: After a lot of haggling, nagging, haranguing and pestering, George Lucas seems to have finally gotten the message. The original word was he would wait to do the original trilogy after the third film was released, which is in 2005. No one wanted to wait that long, and apparently, neither did Lucas.

These three films won't be the originals we saw in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983. Nor will they be the Special Editions released in 1997, which featured the hated scene with Greedo shooting Han Solo first. Supposedly this new version will have Han shooting first again, but a whole bunch of new effects, including the light saber fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. We shall see, George, we shall see.

Motti, dunno if this was the best analogy to use considering the Perk is effectively being "torn down" (at least in terms of the set) at the end of this TV season.

Jay, I'm sharing your opinion regarding GL's tool factor.

However, I'm not giving up just yet. This site is still here and we never know how GL will change his mind when the time actually comes. He could be saving up a big ol' knock you upside the head surprise just in time for the Christmas season.

One can hope.

I very much prefer the original theatrical versions and hope George Lucas will change his mind. But the special editions will do...for now.

I expected this. I kind of believe Ign when they say that Han will shoot first on the DVD. The fixed lightsabers included in the 2003 film festival will also be added in the DVD. I can't wait to buy these DVDs. Only 4 years late Lucasfilm.

I too hope to get the original with the SE just like "ET's" DVD Set. Steven is a good friend of George's, I would hope he can "convince{Sp?}" George to do the trilogy like the ET set. that would be the sweetest!! everyone would be HAPPY!

*Crossing Fingers*

and as for this site, it's cool and I hope its still around as a chat forum. maybe with a banner after the OTs are out saying something like:
"It is done! The Original Trilogy is out on DVD. Thank you all. ... and May the Force be with You (on DVD) Allways."

IMO.
