Indeed, that's what the fans have said. Still, shot #1 is TERRIBLE.

sorry about that, but yeah... used to arguing with die-hard fans.

The Japanese audio and new english dub with japanese BGM are good, and some of FUNi's scenes look good, but the fact that the frame is constantly shaking (a-la GOUT credits if memory serves), the cropping, and even the box set kinda ruin it for me.

Yeah, it was the aspect ratio! I hate it when companies cater to lazy people who want an image to fill their whole screen by default. Just because widescreen TVs are the latest thing doesn't mean that a given work's proper aspect ratio is suddenly improper. Hell, if widescreen TV owners want an image to fill their whole screen they can use their stupid zoom feature.

Oh, and now I remember my brother telling me that they'd re-release the set at its proper aspect ratio if the fans purchased this set enough . . . it's like extortion. I personally wouldn't fall for that.

Yup. When SF II came out I remember we were always wondering where the first one was because no one had ever heard of it, and we figured if the second one was as awesome as it was, then the first one had to be pretty good.

I played it at some arcade once. It is terrible. It makes Pit Fighter look like a work of art.

And, well, still. 1987 is after 1985, and Dragon Ball Z appeared in 1989, still a good three years before Street Fighter II.

so capcom not only ripped off of tesuwan atom aka astro boy for rockman aka mega man, but also for street fighter II ripped off of dragonball Z.

Yeah, I was so angry when those boxsets came out because that would have been the perfect, economical way to collect the entire series, but FUNimation not only ruined it but lied terribly about it saying all this bullshit about getting more picture by showing bogus comparison images of cropped vs. double cropped pictures. I so would have bough those if FUNi hadn't been so dishonest about them and just released them in their proper aspect ratio.

There is no lingerie in space…

Wow, I had no idea this had happened... I was thinking about eventually getting the series for completion's sake, but it sounds like I should wait.

And here I thought FUNimation was finally becoming more competent.

No. The thing that pisses me off is that they have gotten competent with every other property they've licensed over the past half-decade, but they still keep screwing up in every possible way concerning Dragon Ball! I think the only good things that have happened this decade is that they dubbed Dragon Ball with the original music... but then they screwed that up by totally ruining the score of DBGT. And on these new DBZ boxsets, they've restored the original score to the dub (finally), but they've done such shitty things with the picture. Thank goodness I don't ever watch the dub and am spared their lack of respect for this property, but changing audio tracks isn't gonna get me my lost picture back.

Sean referred to these boxsets as "uncut". I don't really consider anything "uncut" when the top and bottom of the frame has been undeniably cut out of the show.

Wow, you're all over the place tonight, Dayv. Glad to see you.

I don't know how I feel about this live-action movie. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. But its story is probably rooted in the dub, which is horrible, and which will undoubtedly make me cringe while watching it. But, really, I have an open mind about it. I actually liked the Super Mario Bros. movie.

I don't know. I mean, this thing has been floating around in prepro hell for several years, but they seem really serious about it this time. I think, like it or not, it's going to happen. Although, not that I've decided if it should happen at all, if they were going to do it, they should have done it seven years ago. Seems like a strange time now to finally plow through with it.

Dragonball Z owns in its Manga format. In its Anime format, it completely sucks.

Bleach owns in its Manga format. In its Anime format, it owns equally if not more!

BLEACH > DRAGONBALL Z.
