The Return of Futurama

So, has anyone else seen "Futurama: Bender's Big Score" yet? Just watched it today, let me tell you it was GREAT! It's not like the Family Guy movie, which is 3 episodes lazily tacked onto each other - it really is a cohesive whole. The last quarter is a bit of an exception with the flashbacks, but for the most part, anytime something "new" comes along that would be conducive to the beginning of a new episode, it feels perfectly natural. Aside from the obligatory "We're cancelled! Wait, no, we're back now," jokes at the beginning (which are done by 5 minutes in), nothing fell flat - I'm incredibly excited for the next 3 movies and the sixth season (since the fifth will be the 16 episodes from the 4 movies). Hopefully Futurama will live on properly and not go to shit like Family Guy - but for now, there's nothing to worry about.

I am going to watch it either today or tomorrow, I can't wait to see it. My friend told me it was fantastic though.

I've seen it and I can't wait to own my own copy. [sic]

Within the first few minutes it felt really polished and some of the jokes had me laughing pretty hard. I wont say which for those that haven't seen yet but there were some great moments. I've got one concern to do with the storyline but for spoiler reasons I wont say yet either.

I really hope this is a way to get futurama into full time production again, I always loved this show more than other sitcoms. I'd encourage everyone to go out and get a copy, If you are a fan of the series you WONT be disappointed.

oh, and Bender writes his email address as bender@ilovebender.com - it turns out its a promotional site for the movie release [www.ilovebender.com]

Yeah I got it last night. Wasn't as funny as I had hoped. Still--it was worth watching, a decent come-back, I just found that there wasn't that many jokes in the film. Interesting in that it appears to segue straight into the second film which comes out in the new year--I hope it will be an improvement. Not that the film is bad or anything, its quite decent, theres just a lot of room to improve. Futurama set high standards for itself.

That is already happening. There are suppose to be a few more straight to DVD releases, then they are going to divide up them all up into episodes, add extra bits to each one, and air them as season 5. I know this is a very blantant case of double dipping, but I am willing to look the other way if it gets us another decent sized run of Futurama. I think the future of Futurama is actually looking very bright. Adult oriented cartoons are arguably more popular than they were in Futurama's day, and since they will no longer be aired on the FOX network, which has a history of killing some pretty good shows, but on Comedy Central who has managed to keep South Park alive for like 80 seasons (small exageration), I feel Futurama is in pretty good hands and is destined to make a lot of people a lot of money, and as long as it is bringing in money it should be safe from a second cancellation.

Watched it last night, I thought it was pretty good. I don't know how it is going to work when split into six episodes though, I think it'll end up being kind of boring having such a large portion of the "season" spent on the same plot. As Zombie pointed out, it wasn't as good as it could have been. But hopefully they will pick up speed and improve. As the brilliant introduction to the movie reminded us, they have been out of it for a few years thanks to the former powers of the Box Network. I think it deserves a chance to find itself again. At any rate, I am just happy Futurama is back.

After watching it a second time my opinion is higher. I was tired and missed a bit of it the first time round but somehow it seemed like it held up better the second time (maybe due to the convoluted plotting). They better have a good explanation for how it totally messed up the continuity though--ie Fry's dog didn't die of neglect because fry was alive and visited it at the pizza shop where he lived, Fry's brother didnt steal the four leaf clover and think he died in the year 2000 because he lived with him for over a decade longer, etc. Hopefully the ending that segues into the next movie will end up undoing most of the time-travelling from this film since it appears the universe is about to explode.

Yup, We're boned....

Yeah, I'm aware that they have about 4 films planned and that they'll be split into a season worth of episodes. What I meant was that I hope it continues into a sixth season and beyond, as a television run again. I mean at this point I'll take anything I can get but I'd prefer a TV run.

I don't know about the sequels but Bender's big score has 4 distinct production codes during the end credits. So I'd say 4 episodes rather than 6. probably 1 that's christmas themed etc. [Don't wanna give away the other plot points just in case.]

I gotta go listen to the christmas song again now...not awesome but memorable. "This Zombie's going to war!" Gotta love Mark Hamil.

So I was browsing around and apparently there's a best buy exclusive disc that comes with this. Anyone know anything about this?
