How and who in Lucasfilm should I contact about using one of their Star wars Charaters in your own story? I want to publish it. That’s why I’m asking this.

Hmm, I would think that in order to use an SW character, you would have to make it a full out Star Wars novel, which would require getting your novel/story viewed and licensed by LFL. I think all SW novels are now published by LucasBooks, so I would suggest writing a letter to them. But there may very well be someone else around here who might be able to give you a better answer.

It depends on the nature of the story. If its satirical, etc., then thats considered fair game to use copyrighted material, if its just a little drop-in cameo for amusement's sake you might be able to get away with it as far as copyright goes due to certain justifications you might be able to use--but as far as writing an entire story around a Star Wars character, or having them prominently involved in it, in a straightforward dramatic fiction sense, then sorry you are out of luck because LFL doesn't licence out its material this way, unless you write it in co-operation with them and they don't really take unsolicited proposals from private authors who likely don't have agents or publishers.

You could just do what some people do--change the names, alter some of the details and make it into your own thing. The line between "heavily inspired from" and "ripoff of" is a fine one when it comes to this. I mean how many Boba Fett clones have we seen, but Boba Fett himself was really just The Man with No Name (In Space).

If you want to publish for profit I'm sure LFL will be dead against it.

I think you have to call George himself.... but he's raping childhoods from 2pm-5pm. So anytime before then.
"Among many things I have to be thankful for are you, the fans. I know that some of you haven't liked every single thing that I've done with the saga, and that you have a strong sense of ownership over all things Star Wars. But take that passion and devotion and channel it into a creative project of your own."

So Really If I wanted to do this, I'm out of luck. Oh well. It sure would've been nice to at least try it. I'll just keep doing what I've been doing. Drawing Vader for my enjoyment and create another Character to replace him in the stuff that I want to get published. Even If I created another Sith Lord, I'd have to go through Lucas to get permission to use some aspects of the Star Wars universe.

Thank's for the help. It saves me having to write a letter, Mailing it, and hope and pray that it doesn't get lost or put in File 13.

Would you consider just posting it online for free?

Then you'd easily fall into the Fan Fiction category, and likely wouldn't have any trouble.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

It will take me awhile to come up with the story But I could do that Put it online. I'd love to still send Lucasfilms some copies of my drawings to see what they think of them. Especially the Vader Ones.
