I think it was HTF that said they were Laserdisk rips. EOD wasn't edited in-house by Lucasfilm, as is common for DVD and any kind of product really it was outsourced to a third-party who put it together, as far as I am aware. I believe they made their own rips from their own Laserdisks, and because EOD is anamorphic all the non-anamorphic sources they used had to just be converted. I don't have any concrete proof of this, but this to me seems believable. The EOD footage doesn't look at all like its directly from a film source--the only clip is the 1977 crawl, which loooks entirely different than the rest of the "final film" footage, with scratches and marks and an altogether different look--a look which matches all the outtakes/raw footage from the 35mm dailies. So IMO the only "final film" clip thats not from a Laserdisk source is the original crawl, which obviously would have to be the case.
