And I guess the password system is kind of annoying, but it really never bothered me, the Mega Man games were the same way. The two Zelda games with the ability to save were not the norm back then. In fact, I am having a hard time remembering too many other NES games that had the ability to save. My only real complaint about the original Metroid is the fact that you can't duck and shoot, those guys that are just under your line of fire get really annoying.

Yeah, the lack of crouch'n'shoot is one of the things I forgot to mention. Seems odd that it wasn't there when games of the same era like Contra had it. As for the maps, I know I could probably find one online, but I prefer to use as little outside help as possible. It's hard to feel like you've beaten a game when others do most of the work for you.

Hmm, I got the chance to play Metroid Fusion for a bit, and while I liked the overall feel of how the game played, I didn't like all the text boxes poping up all the time. I am used to Metroid being a fast paced action game with the only narrative being confined to the instruction manual, or as with Super Metroid only at the beginning and end of the game. It feels kind of annoying playing that kind of game and having to stop and read all the time. Samus' sprite didn't quite look right either, usually she is very tall and slinder, in fusion she seemed kind of hunched over and boxy. More brute like.

Metroid Fusion was my first Metroid game, so all the talking didn't really bother me like it might someone who started with the older games.

You really need to play towards the end, because the game REALLY opens up after you finish the scripted missions (and those aren't nearly as straight forward as the first appear) The scenes where Samus has an internal monologue also manage to reveal a lot more about her character than all the other games of the series put together. And there's nothing quite as awesome as the segments where you have to avoid the SA-X. And I won't spoil the plot, but there's a couple great twists towards the end. (Well, great for a handheld game anyway.)

As for the hunched-overness, I thought about that was a bit odd myself, but I don't think she's actually hunched over, it's just an illusion due to all the pieces that have been carved off her typical armor suit. She doesn't look hunched over in the 3D version of the Fusion Suit seen in Metroid Prime.
